I was also stationed in Seoul as part of USAF/CFC. As an intelligence officer I was privy to operational plans and intelligence regarding warning of war. Following certain events in the early 1980s in Korea, the US has focused tremendous technological and human intelligence assets on North Korean preparations to go to war - including discrete indicators. And we have defined scenarios and windows of opportunity within which North Korea would have to prepare and execute a war. We would preemptively attack North Korea if we determined that the risk and impact warrants a preemptive attack. Kaheva is correct that the Pearl Harbor event was a game changer in terms of military strategy.

@@dragonrln You are 100% correct. Anyone that has worked in Intelligence, or has experience in OpSec knows under what conditions a first strike would occur. There are DEFINATE scenarios where the U.S. would strike preemptively. Matter of fact it happens all the time.

Kaheva; you posted a good video and well thought out. However, I think you missed some hidden points about US gun laws. We carry guns mostly concealed and most US States have laws that make it an “offense” if you pull your gun out in public. Loaded guns being handled in public can cause accidental discharges for people that don’t practice regularly with their pistol, and that’s why it is at least frowned on in public and in many cases prohibited (except in an emergency). It is also highly illegal to point a gun at someone, even if it is unloaded. So from the American’s point of view, if a person pulls a gun on another American, it can be assumed that he/she intends on shooting that person; therefore a lethal response is perfectly acceptable in most states. So there is a set of gun handling customs that are part of American society, and not to be taken lightly. I think I once heard that the Japanese have a custom that if they draw their sword they must use it against an enemy. The American has something similar, only it is with a gun. All of this thought process extends upward, as you pointed out in your video. Anyway, thanks for posting.

That means, by your culture you are to die, before you react. And if you die who will be there to protect your family or loved ones. This is one perspective you did not discuss.

@kaheva I think that based on the exposure to, and knowledge you have concerning U.S. culture, you took a good honest stab at America's military doctrine when responding to known or perceived threats.
While your analysis is rough and in certain arrowly defined scenarios may be accurate, the U.S. military strike doctrine is far more nuanced, with many layers.
Because of how it might affect neighboring countries around either Iran and NK, allies and potential enemies, the U.S. would first apply a plethora of soft power tools, as we have done, before seriously considering force projection.
For the U.S. to make a crippling strike on either country, devastating their infrastructure and incapacitating potential response capabilities, the treat would need to be eminent. Plus, all other options would have been exhausted; diplomacy, soft power tools, surgical strikes, etc.
I like your spirit and no fear approach to tackling a topic head on. I encourage you to continue to read, learn and practice your analysis. Mistakes will be made, but don't let that inhibit your efforts. Embrace your mistakes and weaknesses in your analysis by learning from each.
As for the nasty comments made some, I will direct the following commentary.
"He/She with out mistakes should cast the first stone. Otherwise you are all living in glass houses; a fragile existence. As for those who take their criticism to a personal level. The reason you go there is because you lack real intelligent substance to add to the conversation. Like a person who laces speech with profanity, you lack in the skills of vocabulary, listening, comprehending, inquiry, questioning and understanding. Because of this you shoot superficial, negative, condescending and hurtful comments from the hip, instead of seeking first to understand."
I accept Kaheva's analytical efforts as a good stab at the subject based on a bell curve of her understanding at this juncture in her life. Experience will season her analysis and she can't gain experience without stepping out and doing the yeoman's work necessary.

In the Philippine law, it's not a justifiable act to shoot to death a person merely carrying a gun unless he pointed and fired it towards an opponent and this falls under justifying circumstances of self defense. That's the rule of engagement. In the case of a duel to death, both protagonists are liable of homicide.

In confrontation with a criminal suspect, the officer tells the suspect what the suspect should do. When the police officer sees the suspect move in a way not directed the officer uses preemptive force because the suspect isn’t following orders. This might explain the reason behind any preemptive attacks on other countries by America. It is self-defense.

If a rattle snake rattles and warns me that it is about to strike then I pull out my weapon and I blow it's head off it is as simple as that. That is a reaction not a preemption. If NK fires missiles toward the US or one of our territories or protectorates then that is already a direct threat. No one in there right mind would allow a shit pile tin horn dictator to threaten the US with a nuclear weapon. That goes for any country not just NK or Iran. It goes for China and Russia as well. Wake up. I think you mean well but the little fat rocket man is not a match for the US. If I were you I would start trying to immigrate now before it is too late for you. furthermore, american culture is FAR more then about guns and the will to survive with whatever premtive measures may be nessasary. you need to keep in mind how enormous the country is. some, even a lot of, the culture changes vastely depening on where you go. your analisis is only partially accurate at best. which is supremely ironic since you state that you know the country more then even those that live there (while in some cases this might be true, for the most part there's no way it can be).
gun culture specificly is mostly prevelent in rural areas, and o course in a few of the southern states (by far texas as the highest). for most decently populated cities (outside of texas area) the gun culture is minimul as most people dont want to delv into that culture just to feel safe. that's what the police force is for after all.
You find it inconcievable that america would attack a far nation even when its done so numous times over the many decades. it does so with ease really. this is due to technology in part, but mostly becuase of a a much higher global infrastructure that supports it and its military. you might want to study up on that some, it could be an eye-opener.
i also find your analisys giving a 100% chance of an american preemtive strike on north korea .... innaccurate to say the least. there's many factors involved that you dont appear to be taking into account. Naming but two of these: the voting american public which isnt likely to support a war (they really dont like war believe it or not) unless there is a signifigant immediate threat to americans specificly, and the higher ranking politicians who are at the heart of things and are People, not machines which means there is inherently a degree of unpredictibility and who are all also (like it or not) only in their posts at the behest and whimsy of the voting public.
and FFS, satilites are by no means only or even primarally used for survalance of targets to determine preemtive attacks on. seriously. that premise is woefully ignorant. and not just because americans arent anywhere near that agressive. many satilites are simply ones for communications for instance. you know.. those things that let you make international calls, or carriers of television shows. even survalance sattilites arent nearly as nefarous as youre portraying. if such were the case then there wouldnt be near as much satilite imagery of the US itself pertty much everywhere all the time. see, some predict the wheather or map the oceans (not as simple as you might think).
i hope in time you come to realise just how narrow your views are and more fully educate yourself to be able to make more accurate analisys. good luck.
    Sincerely, D.

There is great persecution of Christians in all Asian countries. So if you are wanting an almighty blessing from God have a good look at Nagasaki or Hiroshima. The next time a threat comes from an Asian leaders mouth the whole country is likely to feel the rath of God for 7 x 7 generations not the blessings. Peace for the globe would be the blessing. War mongers are not to recieve blessings nor even mercy.

The military history of America follows a pattern. America always loses the first few battles of a war, then, ramps up and overwhelms the enemy over time. With Nuclear weapons this no longer works. So since World War 2 American military worries constantly about preemptive nuclear attack. Because future wars will be too short to win over time.

Most Generals and Admirals at the end of WW2 advised NOT to use the atom bomb on Japan. They were days or weeks away from surrendering. Truman had lost control of the Manhattan Project to Lt. General Leslie Groves. Gen. Groves was so gung-ho he even gave the order to drop the bomb. No American with even a drop of empathy would want our government to mass murder entire cities full of civilians. They didn't just murder the people that were there, but generations of Japanese suffered because of the USA's
      ultimate demonstration of global terrorism.
I suspect Gen. Groves' leverage to drop those bombs was (in his mind) part of the Manhattan Project - collecting data on the results of the bomb. In my opinion, there is no justification for what we did to the Japanese at the end of WW2. WW2 history isn't part of the core curriculum anymore? History is hard to understand as the victors keep rewriting it or deleting it as they see fit. And of course our American Education System is more of a babysitting project than an Institution of Education.

This was a very interesting comparison of Americas and South Korean culture. I think one point that is lost is that in todays world a relatively easy to deploy "item" can result in large devastation with little warning thus requiring a "attack on warning" strategy. If only conventional forces existed than I think we would not need it(that strategy). The example of being pulled over and getting shot by an officer was interesting . How is it handled in South Korea , if I am pulled over and reaching in my car do the police have to wait to see a weapon before they take action ?

The U.S. would never attack North Korea like that because both it and China have nuclear weapons. China would be sure to intercede if the U.S. tried to conquer North Korea. Russia is also a power in the region that would complicate an American attack on North Korea. American gun culture is influenced by a particular aspect of Western movies called the 'quick draw'. Two opponents face off in the middle of a street square with their pistols at their hips and begin to stare each other down daring the other to draw his gun first. The idea behind this is that the although the first person to draw their pistol has an advantage of perhaps a second of time, the second person to draw will have the moral high ground of not being the prime aggressor and so will have more accuracy and conviction in his shot. So, America continues to stare down North Korea, but they will not draw first, it is not in our mythology to do so.

IF that (Kim`s death) is true, then WHO in North Korea`s Military would follow through on Kim`s maniacal Communist dreams, now that HE`s not there to threaten his OWN Generals with death if they didn`t do what he commanded??
