    As far as i know you are the first person to compare these and you did an awesome job. I will have to try this with my shotgun and see how it patterns with different shells and shot size. Not every gun is the same. This is why it is so important for all duck hunters to test patterns. And i will test more then once like you did, to make sure i didn't pull left or right. If both shots are left then i know its the choke. I would redo the test, but it is still good what you did. Hats off to you!!!!

    Love your content, keep it up! I just wanna say though that I see a lot of videos like this where the tighter pattern is seen as the better pattern. But, in my mind, if you want a tighter pattern you can always go to a tighter choke, a mod is supposed to be reasonably open and I’d almost be tempted to say that the factory pattern had less holes from what I could see. Just food for thought.

    • @BlackBeltWaterfowl
      @BlackBeltWaterfowl  Před 3 lety +1

      Very true, but it was just a test to see how they each performed with the same shell, and which had the better pattern, a mod is supposed to be be a more open pattern, but it’s also important to see what’s actually on target and what’s just stray shot. Thanks for watching!!

      That's solid man, finally an answer to answer my question, I'm new to hunting and people making sound like I won't be able to kill anything if I did not have an extended choke ! I'm so confused how to hunt man, I rather shoot between 20 and 30 yards away I'm thinking sticking with factory and use first improved cylinder see how it works and if not I'll use modified

    • @BlackBeltWaterfowl
      @BlackBeltWaterfowl  Před rokem +1

      In my opinion, a factory modified choke is perfectly fine to shoot ducks with, you don’t by any means have to have a aftermarket choke to hunt with it…. A aftermarket choke is just one of those things most hunters grow into after a awhile.. I shot a factory modified choke out of my guns for over 15 years before I decided to experiment with aftermarket chokes.. I will say this, I would NOT use a improved cylinder for ducks… a modified is a good all around choke.. that’s what I recommend..

    Good comparison between a factory and aftermarket choke tube for longer shots at 40 yards. The Kicks performs better no doubt (based on the pattern of the factory modified, if that was a shot on a duck you would have a downed bird though).
    I would venture to say 95% of my shots on ducks are between 15-25 yards. At those distances, you don't want too tight of a pattern (imo). I've seen many ducks that were shot in half at close range which destroys the meat in the process. I've killed plenty of ducks with a factory modified over 35+ years with 3 guns (Remington 870, Remington 1187, and Benelli SBE II). That being said, if my hunting situations consisted of more pass shooting at birds in the 40 yard range, I would seriously look at an aftermarket choke tube.
    I found it interesting the full choke did not perform substantially better than the modified. As a consumer, I would be a little upset.
    Another good video. Do you happen to know how many pellets are in each shell?

      It very well may be, the chokes don’t say what the restriction is on them, I simply did the test to see if a after market modified was better than a factory modified that was all.... for the reason that some people say aftermarket ain’t worth it..

      @@BlackBeltWaterfowl what aftermarket companies do is take the constrictions of their chokes and decrease the bore to say they are tighter. When in reality, they are calling a full, a modified. Put your factory full in and the kicks modified and I bet they perform very similar
