Drowned Farm Tutorial | Simple, Auto or Semi Auto

- today, after weeks of work, i have a drowned farm tutorial for you. this farm is relatively easy to build. the rates of this farm are by no means as good as the larger drowned farms (like docm77's) but you can get tridents from this thing, with a bit of patience. this could also be a nice way to collect the nautilus shells you may want. the farm can be either fully automatic or semi-automatic, with you killing the drowned yourself. this farm should work on both the Java Edition as well as the Bedrock Edition of the game. this tutorial was shot on the java edition in the 1.13 update.

Again, if you're looking for something with super great rates, I recommend checking out ilmango or docm77.
Happy trident hunting!
Hey wattles I have only watched you for 2 days now and you are already one of my favourite
You tubers also spooky I read descriptions XD
Can also use iron pressure plates for the corners not as difficult to get as turtle eggs
wattles please please please respond to this. when i put the minecart on the rails the minecart stops at the hopper. i have tried everything and it won’t work please tell me what to do i have done it the way that u did
Did you put a rail over the hopper?
would it work if you afk at the villager spot? cuz we live in the middle of the ocean several thousand blocks away from any land, and definetly not a village.
I made this trap, I recommend iron trap doors instead of wooden ones to keep from constantly opening them. Also, the turtle eggs keep breaking to random fish that get caught in the trap but I fixed this problem by replacing the turtle eggs with daylight sensors. Increases the resources a bit but it's worth it.
that should work just fine! thats actually probably an easier way to do it too
I used Heavy Weighted Pressure Plates instead of turtle eggs.
how many drowned do you usually get per hour? i just finished and have seen 1 so far in about 10~ minutes. I might need to move it further out like some comment said
At least it is easier to get I mean y don’t need silk touch

Just built this - it's the first mob farm I've ever built! Thanks, Wattles for a really clear and easy to follow tutorial! :)

You always do such a good job with explaining things. Very concise and simply.
Thank you! I try to be as to the point as possible, while still explaining things.

You can use kelp to turn the water the kelp is placed in, into a water source. Once all the kelp is placed just destroy it. This will save you a lot of pain with water buckets. 👍🏻
You can’t place kelp on magma blocks

If you are having an issue with getting water source blocks on the magma blocks, use kelp! Kelp placed all the way up will make them solid source blocks. Then you can destroy the kelp and replace the magma.
A little tip:
You can make a system to automatically delete the rotten flesh if you need, so you will only need 1/2 chests for the tridents
Caestus no estus you can make an item sorter so that the rotten flesh gets destroyed and only the other drops will go to the storage unit
Or a cleric villager inside
@haidargaming, THIS! What a great idea, turns this into an emerald farm too.
Bonus points: Make the cleric the bait. Build a way to trade with him regardless of him being trapped there as zombie bait.
Rotten flesh can be sold to a cleric
You are seriously helpful , I love ur videos, thanks for your time.
Awesome tutorial wattles!!! Will be converting mine over to this design. Seems like a good place to AFK fish!
This was really well made, the farm and the video. Good job!
Thank you!!
Nice! Good design and very doable as well.
In the 1.14 update you can use campfires instead of turtle eggs :P
Just in bedrock right?
@@VallimMotta Ni, I play on java and it works

Use stone pressure plates. Easy and full view
what about the flower holder things? xD
I built one of these but my son pointed out if you put water at the bottom of a zombie spawner farm the zombies turn into drowned before you kill them. Great loot drop rate from it. Really enjoy all of your ideas wattles. Keep up the good work...
Well you see on java you cant get tridents using a spawner and converted drowned
Great tutorial, as usual. Keep em coming!
You can use lanterns instead of the turtle eggs aswell. :)
This farm works perfect!!! Just replace the glass you went 2 high, with gate fences 2 high instead with trap doors between then. This way the drowned will start tracking the villager as they cannot track it through the glass.
@@bgd4678 Hey i may be too late but you can watch the video by FastJaz on the trident farm which shows the gate fences/trap doors placement
How are they placed? Are the fences in the corners? do the trap doors have to be open?
How do you prevent trident drowned from killing the villager when using the fence and trap door technique?
@@scrap960 This is my problem. The trident drowns are pure marksmen.
13:09, or you could replace the magma blocks with temporary dirt and use kelp, then destroy the dirt and kelp then replace the magma blocks. Works Well for Water Source Blocks!
I put the magma blocks in last thing but instead just used dirt, when letting the later in I filled the area with kelp. Then I replaced each dirt with a magma block so no need to fill the area with sources. The trap door fix people have said works better too. Nice farm.
Man, has your voice changed in a year x) I really like the design, will definitely try it. I just can't kill Drowned armed with tridents, they hurt too much! Thanks for the build!! xx
Trident drowned are deadly!! Anyways thankyou!!
Funny story but I transported a villager to my lagoon. I thought I'd make a house for him so I made a House Boat. Long story short drowned are always outside it and I've gotten multiple shells from it. Then it got me thinking. There has to be a way to farm these So that's how i got here. Thanks for the Tutorial!
Thankss wattles, this is the easiest farm yet!
Hey wattles - great tutorial! Is yours still working? For some reason I get rotten flesh but no tridents...I have afkd for like a whole day and get no tridents?
Hello Wattles, first thanks for another amazing tutorial.
I just have a quick tip to give since people don't remember this, but instead of place water in every block over the magma blocks you can put a temporary block and plant kelp all the way to the top of the trench cause kelp creates water sources, is better than pick water on buckets and you can have more control over the areas with source water blocks. I hope i can help everybody. Love your videos. Thanks for the great work.
Thanks!
Can we just appreciate how this guy is saying his is not the best but while all the others say theres is OP :D
ItsZyphX does this work on 1.15.2?
@@de4thnote164 idk
This is sure to help my team on Vault hunters, Thanks!
To convert flowing water to solid water blocks over the magma, you can place kelp plants over the magma and then destroy them. Since kelp won't grow on magma directly, you add dirt blocks over the magma. Then you'd just have to replace only the water directly over the magma.
I found out that this design doesn't work to get tridents because the drowned stays at a distance throwing tridents and they never get close.
just change the villager with a turtle egg.
I already have about 3 stacks of Nautilus shells from AFK fishing. I just want a trident to enchant with Channeling.
Wattles is one of the best teacher farm guide that you will understand super duper easy
Nicely done. A bit different from what everyone else is doing. Very creative.
Would building one of these near an underwater temple boost the rates any?
It might attract guardians
@@sayzub9877 I think he meant the drowned ruins.
If he did, then yes, it would make it more efficient. If he meant Ocean Monument, he'd be in trouble twice, since the guardian that you mentioned would also kill the drowned. >.
Built the farm, however the items dropped arent collected by the hoppers in carts. How do I fix this ???
Just build this, still need to see it in action but I like the design of it.
It doesn't work very good/if all, during the day drowned will move to the bottom but only if they are near and in a specific position will it work
if it isn't working I found a band aid fix - put a block to block the bubbles on the middle of every side on all 4 sides where the bottom of the ocean lays. The drowned needs to see the villagers and the bubbles now act as a block for the drowned to not see. They will eventually bob around and then drown.
cant wait till you hit 1 mil subs
Hey wattles!
I love your farm design since it's really simple and not using too much resources. However i was wondering if isn't it easier to stand where the villager stands? That way you don't need to care about finding and transporting a villager.
Kaechan I think its just so that its available to farm as you go off and do other things, its an auto farm after all not an afk o:
Leo Lanteigne yeah, you're probably right... 😅
I would say no because if u stand there drowneds will spawn farther away so they may not even track u, when u use a villager u can afk and drowneds will spawn closer to the villager
Light Yagami i totally forgot about this 😅 thank you for reminding me, it will be really useful in the future 😄
Light Yagami right
Today I realised that if you walk on magma blocks with a frost walker enchant, it won't deal damage
I like small and elegant. Brilliant.
You can make water source blocks with kelp, might make that part of the build easier, then just add the magma blocks once you are done
After several hours I finally figured out how to fix this for 1.14, Due to the updates to transparent blocks and water the drowned no longer see the villager through the slab. They can only see the villager through the two blocks that are over the slab. Therefore what we do to make the drowned see the villager, prevent him from drowning and to get shot by the trident wielders go like this:
- Replace the slabs with blocks
- Use turtle eggs as walls in the two blocks above where the slabs used to be
- Put a slab directly above where the villager is so that he is restricted to 2.5 blocks (New updates make it so that the villager has to stay consistently in the water and if he floats too much up he can get hit by tridents)
Did this and it seemed to work fine for me, currently seen 5 trident wielders and none of them have killed my villager so far
Update: He just got hit by a trident so not 100% consistent, perhaps it can be fixed by expanding the radius of the magma blocks
@@AlexandriaSc2 didn't understand can you explain whit steps
Testing this method in 20w16a snapshot. The original one absolutely not worked, so hopefully this will. I already noticed the drowneds can see the villager now, now i need to get more drowneds somehow. Trying with hard mode.
could we use turtle eggs as bait instead of the villager?
Before placing the magma block leave as normal block until the biuld is near complete. Use kelp to turn the water in to source blocks. Every other block with the kelp is only needed as it fills in the rest. once done break the kelp and replace the bottom blocks with magma blocks. This will save lots of time.
well i wish i knew that when i was making a water elevator.
I found great drowned chunk and i will build this thx
In 1.16 the drowned need to see the villagers head. Change the glass on the sides to grindstones and the corners to stairs (place in a circle motion so each side has a gap in the stairs) this should allow the drowned to see the villager.
The trident drowns are dam marksman. I can't keep a villager alive.
so, it turns out you need to build it in a cold ocean
Thanks for the tip, wattles! my friend and i spent a while making the farm for it to not work
why does it need to be made in a cold ocean as opposed to another ocean biome?

no
Did you know that putting kelp in downward flowing water, as in non-source block, it will make it a source block. However, you can not put it on soul sand or magma cubes
Finally a drowned farm without a nether portal, I need to build this on one of my servers, and the nether is off limits, and luckily for me the base I'm apart of is right above a ocean biome, and I've ran into so many drowned while building my underwear rail way

doesn't seem to work in 1.14 drowned not detecting the villager
Try putting down a working table, so the villager gets a job.
@@leopardbrorsan6783 DOES THAT WORK?
@@lioneye0074 not to me
is it fixxable?
@@francescovannini9850 It is, since 1.14 update makes you to make hostile mobs unable to see u if your view to them are blocked by blocks, any blocks especially. You would want to make a hole in the middle, then add signs. It would prevent the water to go inside and attract drowneds
Reyzero thanks!
I think adding the water simultaneously with building the central column would be a smarter approach. First off, you are working in a safe, dry room with a solid ceiling above. No risk of drowning, no Drowned falling on your head, no downflow pushing you onto the magma blocks, and by picking water in the middle between two existing water blocks you're filling the bucket and the source block respawns. You can easily see if you missed any (no flowing water), and in the end after removing the 'ceiling' you have only two layers of water to fill in.

FYI: A faster way to get the water source blocks in is to place sand on the magma blocks and plant kelp. When it grows it turns flowing water into source blocks. Them remove the sand and fill in the bottom row.
You can also convert a zombie spawner into a drowned farm.
In Java a zombie spawner turned into a drowned farm does not drop Tridents, In fact the only way to get tridents in Java is to kill a Drowned who is holding one, they made it super rare i hate it.

How do you get a villager under water in survival
Bubble vacuum using magma
*I didn’t watch the video at all but need to know how to do something that was clearly told how to do in the video*
Build a quick small tower up with dirt allowing the center to be dry and put water at the bottom bring villager over to it and push him in.
Alternative to this is just augmenting a zombie spawned with a waterlogged cobweb. This is a whole lot easier though so thanks for the tutorial!
problem with that is that no matter what, if a zombie turns into a drowned instead of spawning as a drowned it wont have a shell or a trident, ever.
Your drowned farm reminds me of the clasic swamp slime farm. Inorger to increase the item rait in that instance you simply placed more of the iron golem farms spaced 30 blocks away from each other to increase the mob detection radias this should be a simple fix to make your simple and cheap farm a better producer.
You can use kelp to turn the water into source blocks it’s easier than putting them in manually

Does this design still work in 1.13.2? I built mine in an ocean biome decently deep, lit up all the caves around it and have it set up the exact same as you do, except for the turtle eggs because those don't seem to work for me, but I still only get like 1 or 2 drowners an hour. The caves are definitely lit up so I don't understand what's wrong with it. Also, I was wondering if it changes anything whether we kill the drowned ourselves or let the magma blocks kill it (I know the looting rates would change but I mean does it still drop).
Drowned only drop tridents if the player kills them
make it semi auto then
