- "Love Shack" is a song by American rock band The B-52's. It was released in 1989 as the lead single from their album "Cosmic Thing". The song was written by the band members, including Kate Pierson, who sings lead vocals on the track.
"Love Shack" is a fun and upbeat song with a retro feel, featuring a mix of rock, pop, and dance influences. The lyrics tell the story of a place called the "Love Shack," where people can go to have a good time and let loose. The song also includes catchy hooks and a memorable chorus that is easy to sing along to.
"Love Shack" was a huge commercial success for The B-52's, reaching the top 10 in several countries including the US, UK, and Australia. The song is now considered a classic of the 80s and is often played at parties and events. It has been covered by many artists over the years and has been featured in numerous movies, TV shows, and commercials. - Zábava
Great catch, Corey Ray!!!!!! RuPaul dancing in the crowd? B-52’s knew how to party!
The male singer is being campy and funny. He can sing too.
Baby Ru is the best Easter egg
Yep! Ru Paul is in this video!!
For me, this song and Rock Lobster where the two mainstream hits for B52's (although Rock Lobster was released back in 1978).
Rock Lobster is a polarizing song, there is no meh.
Damn. 'were' not 'where.'
The B52s were just fun. This video was was credited as one of the first inclusive videos....see the crowd! White., black, old, young, gay, trans. They lost there gutarist to AIDs he was the brother of blonde singer.
I didn’t know about the guitarist, that’s sad.
This wasn't their biggest hit. Rock Lobster was huge in '78/ '79, and Private Idaho was inescapable in 1980/'81. Not to mention, yeah, that's a young RuPaul towering over the band.
Wrong..... what are you talking about? there's all kinds of music videos with bands that are inclusive with black members and white members...I mean what are you talkin about just go back to the 70s music videos....
Rupaul is actually in this video, talk about inclusiveness!
RuPaul is in it.
Love bands that don't take themselves too seriously but can sing the roof off. Would of been cool to have seen them live, what a party!!!!
I was lucky to see them twice. Non-stop fun and dancing.
Older lady here.......we would blast this at any gathering and people would jump up and dance!!! Pure joy and alot of fun! 😽💋🎶
yes....we would be hoarse from belting it out along with the girls :D That whole album gives full body smiles
Uniquely quirky was the B52 brand! They started out riding the new wave crest of art college, garage bands in the late 70s. They were cranking out hi energy new wave dance music until they teamed up with Chic producer, Niles Rogers who gave them their first huge crossover mainstream hit, Love Shack in 89. Most known for their insane 60s a go go, surf inspired Rock Lobster. They're definitely a fun time band!
It's a fun song, designed to be just that.
The B-52's had three other #1hits from the #1 album called Cosmic Thing, giving them 4 #1 hits from this album, Love Shack, Topaz, Roam and Follow Your Bliss. This was their most successful album by far😮😊
Whoah, dudes! Yeah, B-52’s were WAY more than one-hit wonders. These crazy party animals put out a ton of funky, fab hits.
My love for this band is endless. Their concerts were pure fun dance parties. Others have good suggestions. I would add Strobe light and Give me Back My Man. They've been together for over 40 years. Thanks for the reaction!
Just a hella fun damn song and a hella fun damn band ✌️
He is the leader of the Band. I believe they were from Georgia and became a novel icon like their namesake [B-52] . Rocking 70's..
So much fun at their shows giving the "bang-bang-bang" call and response with everyone joining in.
I wanna be at that party. 👍❤🤙
Fred's a hype man and MC. The group wouldn't be the same without him.
Prefect follow is a Deee-lite Groove is in the Heart.
You're making me miss MTV so much!! Geez, we had it so good back then, I'm always thankful to have been in high school and college in the 80s, so much fun and soooo much great music of different genres.
If you ever take a chance to listen to an entire B-52's album, this album (Cosmic Theme) is the one. This band is CRAZY talented and also amazingly diverse, you need to give them a chance. Channel Z, Follow your Bliss, so so many great songs.
'89 was my HS grad year! In '91 they came to my college, University of Florida 🧡🐊💙, & sang at our outdoor stage. I threw down a blanket on a beautiful fall evening & B-52's, Eddie Money (Two Tickets To Paradise), & Corey Hart (Sunglasses At Night) sang. When Love Shack came on all us students stood up and danced. It was an epic scene. Good times
This is from a time when we went to dance clubs to dance and sing to the best songs currently out. At the end of the night, all strangers became friends on the dance floor. Techno killed all that.
My favorite B-52s song. It's so fun, and the video makes it even more fun! Thanks for a great reaction, as always, guys! ✌💙✌
LOVE SHACK! YAY!!!
My foot tapped from the 1st note. Im 65. I want to go to the LOVE SHACK now.
And then there's Planet Claire as well.
And Rock Lobster.
Not sure what they were on, but I want some.
love the dude's reaction with the music notes behind him. Such a fun song.
I live about a mile from the Atlanta highway....no Love Shack in view yet, lol......
Nile Rogers (of Chic fame) produced. Fab funky sound.
Love shack babbyyyyyyyyyyy Yes. Ya’ll so young. Recommendation NU SHOOZ song : I CAN’T WAIT
DEE LIGHT..... GROVE IS IN THE HEART
Love Private Idaho and rock lobster by B52s...they were huge in early 80s. Saw them at West Point Military Accademy in 1983...what a fun party group.
The B52s are all about fun. Explore their many terrific songs.
they have so many hits
Dude!!!! Bingo.! Bonus point for checking Ru Paul extra points for the quick call.
Back in the day when most folks would rent out the VFW, Elks Lodge or the basement of the local golf course pro club, my sister and bro in law found an old barn, put up a big wooden sign that said love shack and made this song the theme of their wedding reception.. it was awesome
❤️Always pumps me up
The funniest thing is Olliwooda thinking that way of talking is from the 50s lol. It’s actually an imitation of gangsters from the 1920s and 30s. Old movies kind of popularized it. The B52s had more hits from that same album in the 80s, “Roam” was another huge one.
C'mon y'all! One of the most infectious bass lines ever!!!
Shaquille O’Neal said this song has ruined his ability to sign cards and letters “Love, Shaq” 🤣😂
Try the first track from the B-52's first album, self titled from 1979 called Planet Claire. This song was featured in the CG animated film called Monsters vs. Aliens!😮😊
Its a fun song
Damn yungin, everything ain't gotta be so serious! It's ok to just have fun🌻🤩💥
Still a bop! ❤️
Last week, while at my local grocery store with my mother, this came on the muzak in the store, Mother & I danced.
My favorite fact about this song is that I was tending bar at the time, and whenever it would come on, the other bartender and I would drop everything and jump up on the bar or tables and dance. We were both 6'1" so I'm sure we were quite a spectacle, but we did get some good tips ; ) good memories.
Never noticed that about RuPaul before--wild. Apparently he helped them set up the soul-train-like dance line
Rock lobster was their 1st big hit
I love the song and the video! It was so much fun to dance to! ☮️❤️😎
Yes! Total party song. Having fun.
In the 80s, when I was a young married gal, my husband and his cousin and his wife went as the B52s to a Halloween party. I am a res head and she is a blonde. She is a hair dresser so, our hair was on point and we got our clothes from a vintage store.
If you haven't done 'Rock Lobster' yet, I'd be interested in your reaction to that one by the B-52s. I just saw them on their farewell tour. Hell of a show.
I've seen this video a handful of times and I've never noticed RuPaul until now!
Tom Brady playing some pretty good rhythm guitar there.
Always a karaoke choice for me. I can scream with the best of them.
Cosmic Thing is a very good album that is perfect for a casual summer day. The B52's provide both quality and creativeness.
Silly fun dance band. Planet Claire, Rock lobster is another
What a fun song gets you moving. Love it. 😊
The first time I saw TheB52’s was in New York in 1979! I have seen them many times. They are the best dance band. The last time I saw them was at tThe Beacon Theater in NYC. On October13th. 2022. Listen to The B52’s Give me back my man. The Cars, Touch & Go. Thompson Twins, Lies. The Specials, Monkey Man.
I didn’t know you were that young! Geez. Y’all babies
Gotta do Rock Lobster!! Love you guys 💋
They had tons of hits.
I believe they are originally from Atlanta Georgia And started playing like colleges and And start playing like colleges and paternity parties that kind of thing
The guy on the bottom needs an attitude adjustment! This is one of the greatest party tunes ever written!!!
I was stationed on Guam in the US Navy...was just a fun tune! Took a lot of stress off, just Fun !
Great job guys.
Rock lobster 🦞🇨🇦🐉👩🏼⚖️
You gotta hear them do "Rock Lobster"!
They’ve had SEVERAL HITS!❤
B52’s we’re huge! Partying to this album all through my youth! 💃🏻
Not surprising that RuPaul is in this. Back in the late 80's and early 90's, right before he blew up. You would see him in Little five points in Atlanta and in Athens a lot, where the B-52's are from. I would see him all the time back then, at events and such.
I saw them in concert when they went on tour for their album Cosmic Thing, which this song was from. They were so much fun, energetic and could put on a show. It was one ,big dance party. I left the concert hoarse and drenched in sweat.
One of my favorite bands and one of the first new wave bands to hit the charts. They came out in the mid 70's and named themselves after the beehive hair style the ladies wore in the 1960's. They had a bunch of catchy if somewhat silly songs but they were a very good band. In the 90's they had an awesome album called Cosmic Thing. Some of their hits thru the years are Dance This mess Around, Rock Lobster, Planet Claire, Songs for a Future, Butterbean, Put That Beat in the Garbage Can and Mesopotamia
They really are called the worlds greatest party band for a reason a good reason
I didn't know it was as NEW as 1989! For some reason (probably the 70s aesthetics) I thought it was from the mid-80s.
No way 89. I woke up and was dreaming my 10 the grade class was all dancing to love shack. That was 78
Love Shack was a big hit but I preferred some of their earlier hits like "Rock Lobster, Private Idaho and Planet Claire. They also did a theme song later for a cartoon show "Rocko's modern life".
Nobody stays sitting when Love Shack plays! This video was RuPaul’s big break!
You may have noticed Ahmet Ertegun, founder of Atlantic Records in the suit. 🙂
Rock Lobster, Private Idaho are two more of their hits there are more
Wow I've never seen this music video, it's so funny! (Late 80s baby here, so I only got the tail end of good mtv!)
Heck out RuPaul!! They have her some great exposure!!
They were HUGE. Check out "Roam".
Roam was fantastic.
Great reaction ! I have to agree with Olliwoodda, I could do without the male vocals. The only B-52 song on my playlist is Roam. Consquently because its just the ladies singing and they have great vocals. Obviously this was a big hit, but to each ur own if u like it more power to ya.
Listen to "Roam"
you have to do Rock Lobster - I think that was technically late 70s. Fab song that really gets into your head! AFAIK this video was shot at Kate Pierson's home in Upstate NY, very close to my home town. She (and the rest of the band) would show up at the cafe where I worked on the regular - SUPER nice people. I love the B52s on every level. Just great
ROCK LOBSTER....
Yes that was Ru Paul 😂 good spot 😊
Saw them in concert and ENJOYED it😎🤪🤘
I remember when this one came out. Super fun, for sure. I always dug the drummer's shirt.
I probably saw this when it hit MTV but I don’t remember it. The song I remember. I had a ‘66 Ford Galaxy when it came out. I don’t know about 20, but I definitely had more than 7 in it. I couldn’t get away from this song. Seemed like it was playing all the time in the roller rink, bowling alley, arcades, Pizza Hut, anywhere with a jukebox. This or Red Red Wine or Wild Wild West. Brings back memories. I am thankful to be here and for you popping up on my feed today. Bless you and have a wonderful weekend. Oh Rock Lobster is another one that you may know, I know Family Guy has an episode with it.
Fun fact: the band grew to hate this song so much, they refused to play it in their concerts at some point. Why? Because it was on heavy rotation at all the radio stations and MTV and their prior songs were not or forgotten. Even now, most of their fans remembers them as 'Oh! It's that band with Love Shack!'
This song makes you wanna move!
Tin roof. . . rusted!
Classic.
Um, excuse me, sir, but there’s nothing corny about Love Shack. It’s called Camp. And they had a couple other hits around this time - Roam and Shiny Happy People, a collaboration with another band from Athens, GA REM.
"You better watch your step, cause I've been drinking all day"
Tenderloin - To late for romance
Great tune! Young RuPaul sporting the fro and white hot pants. Cheers
What a great song! And fun reaction! ☮️❤️
I do love the blonde shaking the goods. 😊
Album Cosmic thing was co produced by the legend that is Nile Rogers.
Wasn't "Roam" on this Album too?
@@xoxxobob61 Yes. Another spot on track.
Its hard ro believe that rhiw song is a bwe 30 years old and they are from my home state as well
Rock lobster is their other hit in the 80s this band is huge in the b80s in the club scene
