The Flyers and Devils are the two biggest surprises of the season for opposite reasons.
Everything possible has went wrong for NJ though lol injuries to Hamilton, Jack Hughes, Hischier, Meier, and Siegenthaler.
They have two rookie defensemen in the top 4 all season due to injuries, and goaltending has been terrible.
The one no one wants to talk about is Macleod. It's terrible what he's accused of doing but his loss to the team is huge, and the locker room impact of having played with a teammate who did something like that for years. Who knows what that does to a locker room
@@rickyrickardo3445thats what happened when your team is built of glass
I'd say Timo Meier, goaltending, and out of their depth rookies are self-inflicted mistakes, that's not even accounting for Marino and Siegenthaler@@rickyrickardo3445
@@WestonNYRwell they were fine last year
@@Ben-fr3wb yeah because they had insane luck. We all know they're amazing when they're not injured but they're gone get injured too often to become a great team
The Canucks. As a Canucks fan I never thought this team would be anywhere near the playoffs let alone winning the division and having a chance at a presidents trophy.
Yes, I'm very happy for them this season; I only hope that things don't change for the worse if the season doesn't go very far in the play-offs for them. The pressure is so overwhelming for them right now since they're way above expectations.
They went on a tear last year at the end of the season so I had them making the Playoffs but out after the first round. I’m still sticking with that.
They really did underachieve the previous two seasons, I knew things were going to turn around at some point
I did neverdoubtthenucks
@thebigpicture2032 so you think the top team in the western conference, and maybe a president's trophy team, will lose to the bottom team in the pacific division?
I've really enjoyed how completely chaotic this season has been. Vancouver being one of the best teams? New Jersey likely missing the playoffs? Edmonton going on a massive losing streak only to go on an even bigger winning streak? Really feels like anything could happen in this year's playoffs.
Being a Flyers fan myself I have no idea how this team is in a playoff spot at the moment
Torts
Yes, it’s a big surprise for me as well but could agree with Torts being the difference.
A real coach. I wish buffalo could have torts
we are best team fr
This is exactly the type of content I need as someone who has never actively followed nhl.
Better late than never I guess. Jump on a team and start rooting!! Go penz!!!
As a Devils fan, I had $5 on them winning the presidents trophy. Yeah, not looking so hot.
7 points from being mathematically eliminated from contention for the Presidents' Trophy with 16 games to go...I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's not going to happen.
Had 10 bucks on penz to make play-offs that ain't happening
I had the Sens over the Wings, Bruins, and close to the leafs. Woof
Flyers are the shock of the season I'm so happy
The Red Wings collapse is something else. Surprised that didn't get mentioned.
their collapse needs to be studied
@@Spartan086Basically no Larkin = bad with Larkin = good which is a sign of a weak shallow team
I had the senators higher than the bruins in the standings😂
Lmaooo you thought the penguins were gonna make it 🤣🤣
I had flyers last in the metro. Vancouver Boston Florida outside of the playoff so yeah that’s bad
Flyers understandable, but Boston and Florida???
And Vancouver?@@CahtahHart
I believe I had the senators in a divisional seed and the wild below the Blackhawks😳
I believed the sens would be in a divisional playoff spot, man life is pain
As a devils fan I too thought we'd be top 2 in the division. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong. I'm not worried tho, we're still young, and this season was a calculated gamble from the start by playing 3 unproven goalies. All the injuries really derailed us. We'll fix our issues in the offseason and get someone like Ullmark or Markstrom, toughen up, and be right back to where we were last year.
Acquring Ullmark or Markstrom isn't gonna matter if Marino and Siegenthaler don't bounce back, and this team looks more than a Dougie Hamilton away from a Stanley Cup
I truly thought the Flyers were gonna have the second best odds to land Celebrini. But as a fan of the team i dont hate where they are
Hey if it makes you feel any better in 2022 I commented on a video saying Seattle would get a cup before Vegas due to their aggressive trade style
I thought Edmonton would do very well (and it appears they are) but I never thought it would be such a roller coaster. I would also have never had the Canucks doing so well, or New Jersey so poorly (which sucks because pre-season I said I'd like to see a NJ/EDM Stanley Cup because it would be exciting hockey). Hey...it sounded somewhat plausible in August.
I said preseason the devils had a Cinderella run and Lindy ruff would lose the locker room. I can’t believe how spot on i was. I still expected WC2 but not a sub .500 record
I drafted both Vanecek and Gustafsson in fantasy thinking they would both be all stars and both be top 5-7 goalies this season in terms of stats
I put Devils for finishing first in the metro division at the start of the year😭
My worst prediction was the Penguins making the third divisional seed 😔
I believed the pens would sign guentzel early in the season:(
Missed on a lot of predictions!
I had the wild 3rd 😭
I thought Sabres would be up there with Vancouver.. but I don´t know what happened.
Kinda confused on the praising for ristolainen, has he been good?
I'm another one who wrote off Boston for this year. The Bruins just never go away.
Love Torts, my Jack Adam’s pick🟧⬛️
The Devils fall off is very similar to 21-22 VGK, a lot of injuries + bad coaching. If NJD can have a good offseason, no reason they can't come back next year stronger. The goalie move is obvious, need some speed back in the bottom 6 and probably need a LHD since Matt Rempe scrambled Siegenethalar's brain for life
This Devils team doesn't have the same amount of playoff experience as that Golden Knights team
I had the sens as wild card competitors and also thought the Canucks were gonna be a total joke this year. Yeah the joke's on me 😂
2:41 I think sharks are also out. At least according to ESPN they are
My worst prediction was that Blue Jackets would bounc back and make the play offs
obviously I thought the Devils were going to tear it up
Boston is currently the points leader of the entire NHL. Totally blew that one.
Definitely the ducks (my team) being more competitive this year. Not saying they’d reach the playoffs was still accurate though lol 😂
I put money on the Blackhawks making the playoffs :-)
I thought Boston would suck. Very wrong lol:p
It’s fun to make fun of ourselves I think, some people can’t and I’ve learned to spot them and avoid them like the plague.
Cool vid and yes I’d watch similar content.
Take care dude.
I had our Bruins in a Wild Card spot.
idk why everyone seemed to think the Devils were top cup contenders after just one season where they didn't underachieve like usual, got lucky in the playoffs against a struggling Rangers team, and then got thumped by an actual contending team in the 2nd round.
I had Colombus as the 5th place team in the metro... hmmm
My Ottawa senators being in the playoff run but I was way off hahahaha I guess I meant battling for first pick hahaha
My best predictions: Canucks in Playoffs and Penguins out.
My worst predictions: Minnesota and NJD making the Playoffs.
As a capitals fan they been 3rd in metro they win tonight then hit it again lets go caps
It’s nice to see a man that can admit when he’s wrong…before every troll on Earth reminds him
sens continue to prove that a good offseason doesnt guarantee improvement
Sucks to be a devils fan...
I thought the Sens were gonna be right there with Buffalo, Detroit in the wild card race... Sens can only lose 2 more games at this point haha
I also thought my Devils would be rolling into the playoffs
Let’s go over my 5 worst
5. I had Nashville at 7
4. I had Buffalo at 3
3. I had Boston at 6
2. I had Detroit at 7
1 I had Florida getting the wc2 spot in the East
(I’m not including the flyers because everyone expected the flyers to be bad)
I predicted that the Flyers would be "the worst team in the East" and had New Jersey at 2nd in the league behind Carolina.
I predicted a Devils championship at the beginning of the season. Last year, I had the Blues winning, and the Islanders the year before. All three years, my predicted champion missed the playoffs. I also had the Canucks making the playoffs the past 2 years, and missing this year.
Can you pick Vegas to win the championship next year? My Sharks have their 2025 1st and we'd appreciate if they missed the playoffs.
@@jonmendelson1104 I’m a Kings fan, so I’ll gladly pick them next year
Fantilli Calder was a tough pick
I wouldn't call it a prediction, but saw plenty of cautious optimism for the Canucks this year, and I was just completely baffled and didn't understand why. I didn't see them as a playoff team whatsoever. Now, they obviously have exceeded even the most optimistic expectations this year thus far, but still I was obviously WAY off.
Pens fan here. I predicted Guentzel stays and the big 5 (Sid, Geno, Guentzel, Tanger, EK65) make a run for another cup. Guentzel i gone and we suck
I said Buffalo would be in a divisional playoff spot and Florida was gonna miss out… not a good year for predictions for me
I predicted the Ducks would be better than the Canucks😂 And the Blackhawks dark horse playoff contenders😂
I was thinking Ducks would make the playoffs, don’t know what it was a couple months ago. At the very least, I had Anaheim as an 8th seed. My One prediction that I’m hoping is correct is that Edmonton wins the cup this year. I’m feeling good about them this year.
Devils have been sinking with the dreadfully horrible defense, but now with 2 new TDL goalies I would not count them out yet... It's weird how goalies can influence the games.
My predictions so far.
Right:
Vancouver being in the Playoffs (WAY OVER my prediction)
Detroit and Ottawa would miss the playoffs (50% right and maybe 100%)
Vegas would struggle this year
Pens would continue to fall
Sharks/Hawks, Yotes, Sens, CBJ the bottom 5(likely close to right too)
Wrong:
Boston struggling(good on them)
Blues making the playoffs(looks daunting for them rn)
New York would own the metro (Rangers/Isles/Devils 1, 2, and 3 - So far looking wrong. Could get 2/3 though)
McDavid would score 70 goals and get 160 points.
I had Wsh and Pit both making the playoffs. Also picked the Leafs to miss, just to take the pi**.
Hi nyquist. Ive been watching you a lot and love the content so far. As a penz fan it has been a very disappointing season. Dubas has a huge task to make this team better over the summer. Like you said as long as sid is elite we should be better than this. Also on the wings current loosing streak and the practice punch on is dyllan larkin the only one who is carrying the team as soon as he is injured the whole team just shuts down. Plus should off at least got ned from us to strengthen that goaltending issue as they dont have a really solid no1 goalie
Question for you. The pick you guys traded to my Sharks is top 10 protected but it's phrased as you guys get the choice. If the pick is top 10 do you think you'll do better or worse next year, and if you think you'll do worse, how low of a pick would it need to be before you chose to defer the pick to 2025?
@@jonmendelson1104 yeah so penz have that option. So what that means is that as of now we are picking in like 7 or 8th position judging by the current standing. So with that being said penz will opt to keep this year's first and select an elite player with that pick which means that they will ship the 2025 1st rounder to the sharks. And sharks hope that penz have a stinker next year again and get them selfs a top pick. If penz go well next season that pick will be a late 1st rounder. In terms of talent and if that kid would make an impact like bedard? Maybe as this draft is stacked. If the sharks win and get cellibrini great. Penz pik inside top 10 probably won't make an immediate impact but maybe a player mite just fall in the draft like michkov last year and got taken by the flyers at 7! So you never know.. yeah forget that this year first is sharks property it's not. It socks that penz produced and absolute stinker this season. With Jeff carter finally off the books maybe dubas has a big chance to overhaul the entire team and go back to play-offs, but the core is ageing and that is the biggest concern on top of other things...
Doubling down on my prediction from last year that the Bruins would finally fall outside the playoffs is biting me in the ass a bit.
I don’t think anyone could have thought that the flyers would make the playoffs
I thought before the season that the Canucks would be awful and that the Coyotes would contend for a wild card 2 spot
I thought the big shift in the Atlantic was gonna happen this year. Boston and Tampa out of the playoffs for Buffalo and Ottawa or Buffalo and Detroit. I’m a habs fans and knew we were gonna be bad but all that to say I had no dog in the race
I thought Buffalo was gonna have a good year and finally make the playoffs relatively safely. I’m still not hearing the end of it in the gc. Luckily they’re mostly devils fans so I’ve got tons of ammo
What??? Torts would be your Jack Adams pick over the likes of Rick Tocchet per say?
My bold prediction for next season: Buffalo replaces Tampa as a playoff team. Guess that still could happen this season as well
You skipped the part where you were talking about boston in editing.
EVERYONR expected Boston to take a step back they are awesome.
I said that the Senators were gonna make the playoffs as a 3rd seed. Very wrong about that one...
I would be happy if Boston stays where they are and play Toronto.. Winning Presidents trophy never worked out for us..
I remember my worst take. 12 year old me in 2015 preaching that Jack Eichel would be better then Connor McDavid
I had Carolina Toronto boston nj rangers Buffalo Ottawa Pittsburgh. In that order for east
It's pathetic how anyone could think the Flyers wouldn't be at least a Wildcard team or better.
Bro really had Buffalo 3rd in the Atlantic 💀😂
My prediction that has aged poorly was New Jersey winning the presidents trophy, another bad one was I had Buffalo top of the atlantic and also had Florida missing playoffs
Lol yup, pretty similar to mine. Oof. Had philly and Boston missing the playoffs, Jets being a wildcard at best, New Jersey just behind the Rangers for second in the metro, and Penguins taking the last wildcard in the east.
Why would you have Florida missing? They're still the same good team that went to the final last season 🤨
@@GergentineJets wildcard? The same team that was one of the best teams last season....until the new year, *AND STILL* finished in a good divisional spot....a wildcard? 🤨
@@AscendedXSaiyandid you forget Florida only made the playoffs last season cause Pittsburgh lost a game
@@mike8099m They struggled sure, but they were still a very good team.
I may or may not have thought buffalo would hit 50 wins and Winnipeg would be 6th in the division …ouch.
Jersey fooled everybody lol
Bruuns currently 1st in the NHL points
i said the panthers were gonna miss the playoffs and the flyers bottom 5 team 😭
@OhNyquist:
2:32: Actually the Sharks are also mathematically eliminated at this time. They currently have 39 points, and can earn up to an additional 36 points from the 18 games remaining in their regular season schedule. This would put them at 75 points, which is still 2 shy of the 77 points that the 3rd Pacific seed LA Kings and 2nd wild card Vegas Golden Knights have now.
Stick a fork in them. They're done.
Oh damn! When I was looking at the standings the only team with the -e next to them was Chicago. This checks out though.
I said the Penguins would at least make the playoffs in a Wild Card spot, but that has not aged well.
Everyone saying Matthews wasn’t going to win the rocket aged like milk
I predicted CBJ to make the playoffs 😂
I thought the Sabres would be the wild card team in the Atlantic and the Bruins would be the team to fall out of the race... boy was I wrong
Even all kinds of sports analysts make horrible predictions....lol. They just have a platform to speak on, to be honest.
My horribly aged prediction was New Jersey getting top 2 in the metro and going to conf. finals. Seriously dude, what happened to that team???
Every time that you had Florida missing the playoffs, it did not age well
As a Bruins fan myself, I thought the Bruins were also going to miss the playoffs after losing Bergeron and Krejči. I am surprised but also happy with how Boston is performing
The roster on paper isn't incredible at all other than Coyle, McAvoy, Marchand, Pastrnak and their 2 goalies. But it's that they have teamwork down pat. They know how to play together they are used to playing together and they know their spots to go for passes as well as offensive players being able to play defensive skills. The roster looks like it would be maybe the 10th best in the league (maybe) but it isn't just having incredible superstars on a team that makes a team so good or better. It's teamwork and the placement they are on the ice and like I said. Boston somehow has it SO GOOD. Smart coaching? Comfort in goaltending making the team player better? Having Pastrnak get better and better each year? I don't know. Even though they have clearly fell off since last year if you look at today's date last year they had much more points but it was expected.
@agentshadow7456 I didn't expect a whole paragraph, but one of the main reasons Boston is exceeding expectations is because of Montys coaching and Swayman proving himself as the guaranteed starting goalie both of the now and the future. As well as Pastrnak being one of the best players in the league
@@quinnchausse5051 Haha lol not many do! Yep for sure I agree! I think a mini hit to the team is Ullmark though. Still extremely good but the falloff was bigger than expected in my opinion. I expected a stats falloff but an in game preformance to be slightly better due to the experience.
@agentshadow7456 I thought they were going to trade him, which they tried to do, but he used his NMC to block a trade to LA, and I think one to Colorado as well. I definitely think they will move on from Ullmark soon and keep Swayman for the future while calling up Bussi to back him up
@@quinnchausse5051 I agree.
The first one here 🎉
Hi
Habs are ahead of the Sens
I thought Philly would be second last I NJ was best in metro and I thought vegas would be first
If Carolina can stay healthy, this might be the year
I...guess they showed they can overcome the Panthers now, so why not?
Jersey had one good season, ppl like riding the bandwagons.
I thought Pittsburgh was going to make a run… turns out that was false
I want my money back with New Jersey. Pitiful.
Devils dissapointed me so hard, it feels like everthing went wrong
Some of which was still very much their own fault
