I Constructed a Tree Canopy Vivarium

- I created the ultimate tree canopy vivarium, called Orchadia, a world of trees, an extension vivarium to my first giant cloud rainforest vivarium, Pantdora. The whole biological project of executing a canopy habitat was extremely challenging to construct, requiring me to stretch my terrarium-building skills. There were unique obstacles I faced creating this tree layer, which science knows contains the highest concentration of life in the rainforest. I researched, constructed, and even got a tip from a special creature already living within the vivarium. Hope you enjoy this Episode 13, Season 2 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

And addictive 😂🎉
Why didnt you just cut the bottom side of canopy and connect it with pantdora
@@PikapiShorts it was a nightmare already connecting Orchadia via a small glas bridge. Imagine ripping off Pantdoras ceiling with all the creatures inside. I think this was probably the best solution.
In fact, the introduction of tree trunks on the sides gave a totally different view of a real canopy!!

The Mysterious CZcams Algorithm Recommended your channel to me a couple months ago and I have been watching every video since. The Way you edit and Narrate your videos reminds me of watching the Old national Geographic Specials that would air all the time when I was a kid. Instead of Lions, Tigers, Elephants, sharks and the Antarctic, it is a fascinating and educational look at some of the smallest animals and their habitats. Thank you for sharing your hard work and passion with us.
The next spider you should add is a Golden Orb Silk spider. Interesting looking spider that can get quite big and loves to make its web in between trees. Just an idea I thought of when I saw that baby orb spider.

I think it would be cool to add large blue butterflies. These insects sneak into ant colonies as larvae, pretending to be one of them until they become butterflies. It would be a sight to behold.
The larvae are pretty destructive to ant colonies tho, and I don't think antscanada wants to risk killing all of the ants. Also.. dont they only invade a specific species of ant?
@@shelly4301these and many other issues would make it nearly impossible to make this idea happen, as cool as it would be
@@shelly4301 and they live in a completely different environment.
A flutterbiome next?
Fluted swallowtails would be cool. Any species of Aristolochia Swallowtail would be awesome. However, for the ecologic niche you’re describing, I’d go with the moth butterfly, whose life cycle I find equally as interesting. They predate and take advantage of tree ants nests, if the time is right I could see the potential in this environment but like others said it’s a chance that might not really be worth taking
“Et in Arcadia ego”🌎Greetings, Pantdora creator, and beautiful work. In bonsai, we encourage aerial roots in our banyan ficus three ways: 1) Limiting water to the rootball. 2) Increasing the ambient moisture in the crown/air with a humidifier. 3) The best and most fun - cut a slit up a plastic straw and trim it to fit so as propped between a branch/trunk and the soil. Inside the plastic straw is now a humidity chamber and a root node will activate and grow down the straw into the ground. Once established, we remove the straw. With larger material, any hollow plastic tubing that is pre-sliced will work but you might want to use black or paint it to match the surroundings until a natural root forms. The other methods will have multiple random aerial roots, this method allows for strategic placement of single roots. [I once made a large split-tank vernal pool with mole salamanders for teaching kids about wetlands, keeping the layers of balance is so hard!]

This is probably one of the best CZcams series. The twists and turns are really unexpected(even unplanned), not like ones from a storybook or movie. The series also contains information that many people have yet to learn about nature.

"framing" the canopy between the two tree trunks was absolutely the right call. Looks stunning! Can't wait to see more updates 😁
This has probably been said *a lot* on this channel. But Normally this stuff doesn't really interest me, but this is, honestly, *better* than any nature documentary produced by much bigger studios. The storylines make it interesting and the constantly evolving "cast of characters" adds a level of intrigue to each episode making it feel more like a dramedy tv show than a nature documentary.
I never thought I'd watch videos like this, let alone subscribe and look forward to the next episode every week. I never thought that when I first followed during the early days of Pantdora that it would evolve to include a 2nd, and possibly multiple other vivariums in the future. I never thought we'd go from simple ants and other various bugs/arachnids to literal mini dragons and dinosaurs. But here we are.
Thank you for being part of this journey! Ant love forever! 🙏❤️
I love that the little spider carried a message for you. Life imitates life! Plus I just love watching spiders make webs they’re so diligent
20:18 My guy literally had divine intervention from a passed away tarantula goddess.
Love the look, but I think the reason you might have been struggling with the design is the balance of open space. On the lower level you have it well "grounded", but in the canopy you filled the lower space; but a canopies' space is more like an umbrella. It should be more top heavy with negative space below to create the sense of a drop or emptiness. Still far better than anything I have ever done.
Yes, you're right! I'm hoping vining plants completely cover the top! I couldn't put plants up there because the rain spouts wouldn't be able to water them. I hope in time plants will creep up there and start hanging downward!

I know that science Always talks about the four layers of the forest, but it feels like they overlook the masses of life that thrives under the soil. They always stop at the forest floor, but without the life below the soil what's above is doomed. As an ant-man I think you appreciate that as well.
