  • The most unexpected baby creature was born in my gaint rainforest vivarium, and there may possibly be more! It seems to be breeding season for many of the exotic animals living within our double rainforest vivarium kingdom of Pantdora & Orchadia. But with the new animals emerging into our forest, comes a special newborn that could change the course of this whole biological project. Hope you enjoy Season 3, Episode of 1 of my Ecosystem Vivarium Series. Ant love forever! This video was shot in 4K Ultra HD resolution.

      I don't agree with you. Like at all. He has chosen a species that can't live their entire life in the enclosure it's in now, and replaced a species that not only could, but was apparently comfortable enough to reproduce (often a sign of good habitat). I am a huge fan of this channel, but adding the caiman just for personal entertainment more than anything does really bother me. The skinks have lived there for far longer and could live out their entire lives if need be. The caiman can't. It's going to to move out withing a matter of months. I initially thought that would be maybe a year or so, but when he mentioned months that especially put me off. Such a change in environment can cause such stress to the animals. Both the skinks being released back into the wild and the caimans eventual transfer to another pond. I don't like how "nature" has become just entertainment in this instant. It really really bothers me. The concept of this project is great, but stick to things that can happily inhabit the enclosure long term preferably permanently. Aka also no small primates etc. Like small mice I can stand behind with all necessary precautions, but primates require too much enrichment and care for such an enclosure. @AntsCanada, please for the love of God, stop thinking about what's possible, and start thinking about what's right and good... for anyone's information I am an animal behaviour and welfare scientist and a lot going on here is just wrong..

    The new Sun Skinks are native, and as such I believe should stay. Godzilla, though the apex predator, isn't going to be the assassin of all until more growth and I don't think removal of this crocodilian is necessary until their size or apatite becomes detrimental to the environment in total. This is a vivarium after all, things will be eaten, die, and reproduce. We're here to learn.

      @Jirodyne Před měsícem

      I would agree, but he already set a presidence that can't be taken back. He never should have taken Smoug and the other Sunskinks out of the place. After all, he never mentioned in the beginning about "Replacing" The predators. No, this was meant to be a scientific, hands off look, at nature. And in nature, there is always a bigger predator. By taking the Sunskinks out, he, humanity, interfered with the environment and natural order, forever contaminating the Vivarium. There is no excuse now, to not interfere ever again to get the results HE wants over the results of mother nature.
      He could have moved the Sunskinks to their own tank, or better yet, seen if he could have moved them to the upper connected tank and the 'Tree Top' section, instead of the bottom, so they wouldn't interfere with Godzilla. But releasing them to the wild? that shouldn't have been an option unless there was literally no other choice and needed to be done to save the Vivarium.

The ridges on it are the individual eggs, if I remember correctly! ❤ Edit to say: You will know when they’ve hatched. There will be a string dangling down from the ootheca with molts hanging on it. This exactly... I'm not sure on this exact species, but many of the oothecae I've seen hatch have like tiny cells opening up. Imagine tiny holes, like the seeds of a strawberry or a small honeycomb-pattern. Again, not sure this is the same for every species, but from my experience you will see a few strings (of silk, I assume), hanging out from most of the cells after they've hatched.
      One thing to keep in mind (and I have no idea if this is actually the case, but it was relayed to me through a several experienced mantid keepers), is to try and keep the ootheca in the same orientation as it was laid. In other words, try not to flip it upside down or turn it on its side or anything like that.
      Really excited to see what happens with the oothecae! Hoping to see hundreds of the little critters running about!

    • @robbybevard8034
      @robbybevard8034 Před měsícem +1

      In addition to this, the babies in the ootheca don't really start developing until the weather is right. At least 10 to 15 days of continuous warm weather (75-80°F).
      *Generally* mantises mate later in the fall and leave the sack to survive through the winter and they are then actually incubated and born in the spring, and that can take anywhere from 8 to18 months.
      (So even that first "dud" from the original mating might still have something to it.)so that they have several months to develop and repeat. Often an early overly warm period in the fall can have them hatch too early and die in the winter.
      Hard to judge in this particular case since they mated so early in the spring, and you have a controlled indoor environment, it's tough to say when it will be "right" for them. Maybe you'll get them sooner than later due to the good environment.

I love AC and I am fascinated by this project, and I always trust him to make the best decisions for all the animals involved while at the same time giving us educational and entertaining viewing, but too many people are talking about this being 'natural' or 'nature's way' and it simply isn't correct. Mikey has built a fabulous vivarium using all his extensive knowledge and talents but this is still an experiment. It obviously involves animals from nature, but they are co-existing within a limited area enclosed by boundaries that would not be found in a truly natural setting. It might reflect nature but it isn't nature herself.

      There are some plants that have parts called extrafloral nectaries, which is where it releases nectar outside of the flowers. Laurel bushes are known for this (and are super common, so it'd be relatively easy to see it in person), and have them on the undersides of their leaves, usually 2-6 dark coloured spots. Cherry trees also have these on their leaves, and ants are known to pay special attention to the buds of peonies, but don't harm them. Pitcher plants also release sap along the stems of their pitchers, as well as from their leaves (not just around the lips of the pitchers). It's a pretty interesting evolutionary trait.

    Right so, heres my thoughts. As nice as it would be to see the baby sun skink grow up without the threat of godzilla, its not realistic... We all can see he/she is tiny, and a huntsman spider could easily catch and eat the baby skink, so the fact is, godzilla for his size, is probably the slowest threat to the baby skink. Make the right choice Ants Canada, keep them all❤

I’m just speaking the truth! ;)
    Side note: The pond in the tank was said to be big enough to fit two baby caimans by your friend, and since the baby caiman you have was 8 inches long when it was first introduced that means until it grows to be 16 inches long at some point that is when it needs to be moved out if my math is correct, I think this also needs to be mentioned.

    The change in size of the crickets seems similar to 'Island Gigantism.' This phenomenon occurs when species get isolated on an island: small animals tend to become larger, and large animals tend to become smaller. Can a biologist confirm, are we actually witnessing this process in action right before our eyes or would this explanation require many more generations of crickets than we have seen in Pandora?

    • @danny2481
