    I like how in “How Bad Can I Be?” The Lorax is trying to save the trees, but in “Biggering” he’s trying to save the Onceler.

      I'd say he's trying to do both, which i honestly find a great addition to the story. I kinda wish the filmmakers kept that as it would've made the story more than just a cautionary tale about the destruction of the environment, it also would've been a commentary on greed, pride and the human condition.

    We all know why they changed it. Companies felt too called out and had to tone down that master piece of a song to a dumb kid who didn’t know any better because they also use that excuse
    My favorite line from the original is when the oncler says ‘who cares if something’s are dying’. Not just trees, but a whole ecosystem. How bad can I be is good for mainstream but the whole point of the Lorax is to teach a lesson to future generations, not sugar coating it

    Biggering wasn’t too scary for some kids, it was too scary for some adults.
    Everyone knows the real reason illumination cut the song is because it betrayed corporate greed way too accurately. Kind of ironic that a company would cut a song about corporate greed because of corporate greed.

  • @huntercool2232
    @huntercool2232 Před rokem +430

    Probably one of my favorite differences about both songs is that in “How Bad Can I Be?” The Onceler says ”Who cares if some trees are dying?” Whereas in “Biggering” he says “Who cares if some THINGS are dying?” The difference being that the Onceler in the cut version is far more aware of his actions than he was in “How Bad Can I Be?” and is fully aware that it isn’t just trees that are dying from what he is doing.

    • @Jason_Ultimate
      @Jason_Ultimate Před 7 měsíci +32

      It actually goes even further than that. It goes from "Who cares if a FEW TREES die?" to "Who cares if SOME THINGS are dying?"
      It goes from just brushing it off as just some trees, and not even very many, to outright acknowledging that animals are dying too, and it's not just a scarce handful either, but he still doesn't care.

    • @tsunertoo9149
      @tsunertoo9149 Před měsícem +2

      @@Jason_UltimateI think both songs actually carry water very well. I actually think you could have the two songs together actually because Biggering seems to be about Onceler's insecurities while How bad can I be is about Oncelers corrupting.
      I saw one video talking about an analysis of how bad can I be and it points out how you actively see how he poisonshimself slowly and surely because he goes from "how bad can Ipossibly be" which in context makes it look like he thinks what he's about to conduct is harmless and wouldn't hurt at all to "HOW BAD CAN I POSSIBLY BE" where he now actively destroys things becausehe knows there's no limits and he wants to SEE just how bad he can be.
      One song is about the elation of knowing you wield power no one else can have, and the other is the bitterness of knowing no amount of power will truly accomplish what you need it to do. Make you feel whole.

    One thing that people keep saying about the Lorax in the cut song is that he’s focusing on saving the onceler. But I find the way that the Lorax is trying to save him so interesting and captivating, because the Lorax is telling the Oneceler to understand his actions, and see them for what they truly are, he’s desperately trying to wake up the Onceler but that is completely thrown out of the window when the Onceler ends up saying “our company is an animal that’s trying to survive”, the Onceler is completely aware, using the same commentary the Lorax gave him. He knows what he’s doing, he knows that things are dying, he knows the PR people are lying to save his skin, he knows everything, which made the Lorax in the end realize the Onceler was completely gone and a lost cause. If you watch the storyboard you get to see the Lorax’s realization far better but honestly the song really does well showing the sheer and terrifying decline of the Onceler who went from business enthusiast wanting to chase a dream of something greater, to a faceless businessman who only cares about “biggering”.

    • @estrella-om7tu

      Exactly, the Lorax develops better as a character in this song, as does the Onceler, since in this song the Lorax not only wants to save the trees, he also wants to save the Onceler, that is why I love this part of the Lorax that must be analyzed. deeper

  • @alyssabullock6421
    @alyssabullock6421 Před 8 měsíci +95

    Illumination chickened out big time for not using this song. And the sad thing is, it's very likely because they didn't wanna call themselves out.
    This whole song is absolutely perfect for the movie's subject, and encapsulates the message and entire point of the original animated film from Dr Sues WAY better than "How Bad Can I be".
    It's intense, it's blunt, it's raw, it's harsh! It's literally pointing out the cruelty and egoism of greed, and how it stems from pride feeding into a person not wanting to admit they're doing wrong until it's too late.
    And the fact the LORAX in this version wants to SAVE the Onceler from his greed is so thought provoking and really lets his character shine. Because the Lorax WANTS to protect the world, he wants to respect life and help it. So it makes sense that he'd want to save the Onceler from crumbling under his own greed and selfishness.
    I can't believe we were robbed of a masterpiece like this, but go figure a film company wouldn't want to teach people how bad corporations tend to be.

    I, too, listen to soundtracks and make my own movies in my head. But that's because I'm an author, so it's usually my books that play in my head to the music. There's something amazing about soundtracks. They're emotional and without good music, a movie wouldn't hold the same weight. This song is amazing. I'm sad it was cut from the film. It would have had such an impact, but it also is super different than the rest of the songs, so I can see both sides of the arguement for keeping it and cutting it. I'm glad it was released, though, so we can enjoy it!

    I disagree the Lorax movie made by Illuminati to me is awful and BIGGERING is the biggest piece of proof to that fact. This movie is a butchered and watered down version of this incredible story, and I’m incredibly saddened that some children will be shown this movie over the original animated special. Which is objectively the better version of the story.

    O maior erro da Illumination foi ter divulgado essa música. Só de ouvi-la podemos ter a noção do quanto desproporcional ela é comparada há animação, diferente dá "será que eu sou ruim", que é uma música onde um jovem cararente de atenção da família e imaturo tenta enganar a própria mente de que o que ele faz não é errado pois é algo que não há como evitar, a bigeering por outro lado é a verdadeira essência do onceller, um cara sem empatia, ganancioso e sociopata, que está pronto para fazer qualquer coisa para poder crescer e satisfazer sua ganância, mesmo que ele precise matar animais, manipular a empresa, pagar os melhores advogados para defende-lo e contarem as maiores mentiras possíveis. Mas é claro que se a versão original do filme, junto com a música, fosse lançada, sem sombra de dúvidas que o filme seria a melhor crítica social sobre as empresas que fazem de tudo para ficarem por cima, só que se eles fizessem isso estariam dando um tiro no próprio pé, pois uma das empresas que fazem isso é a mesma que criou esse filme. Eles adulteraram a história dando uma infantilizada, mas cá entre nós, mudar um filme só para ganhar dinheiro "não é tão ruim assim" não é mesmo?

    I really wish we could’ve gotten this song instead because “How Bad Can I Be” didn’t even touch on how corporations could be responsible for the planet’s death. I feel like the whole movie was putting responsibility on a generation that wasn’t even old enough to vote at the time. Now that generation is older and surprise surprise we figured out it’s not our fault regardless. Like we can do everything we can but without the people at the top pitching in and admitting they’re part of the problem our efforts are ultimately useless
    We also missed out on what could’ve been a banger on par with Hellfire or Deliver Us too
