    As for a John Wayne's film, I enjoyed a 1940 film “The Long Voyage Home” which is not a very well-known movie and did poorly at the box office. Some suggest that the film failed to appeal to the public because it was too dark and lacked romance. That’s probably so but it is well worth a watch..
    However, the John Wayne film I enjoy the most is “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”. Not only do you get one of John Wayne's best performances, but is also one of Jimmy Stewart's greatest starring roles. You get two for one... You absolutely get your money's worth and then some. Plus it’s one of John Ford’s most thought-provoking movies.
    As for my top ten. 10. True Grit, 9. El Dorado, 8. The Cowboys, 7. They Were Expendable, 6. The Quiet Man, 5. Red River, 4. Stagecoach, 3. Rio Bravo, 2. The Long Voyage Home, 1. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.
    Angie Dickinson considered herself one of the boys, she enjoyed hunting, fishing, drinking, and other “manly” activities. She grew up in North Dakota so hunting, fishing riding horses were in her blood. She grew up during the Great Depression so under that sexy beautiful exterior she was tough as nails.

    Wayne was emotional when he won his Oscar because he was constantly criticized as a one dimensional actor. It was professional recognition and he was genuinely moved.

    You have to decide which version of the movie Rio Bravo you like the most because they remade it as El Dorado and Rio Lobo. Tough to beat the cast of Rio Bravo though. Nelson was a multitalented artist who died much too young.

      @patrickbeck3285 Před 2 měsíci

      Interesting that you would pick Rick Nelson out of the cast of talented performers. I would, too. I remember he did some good roles even in the 1970s. Sadly, most of this wonderful cast is gone.

    So hard to narrow the list to 10, let alone a number one. With the Quiet Man, Green Berets, True Grit and Liberty Vallance, narrowing it is so hard, but I always loved Rio Bravo as a great western. I hated his politics, but loved his 🎬.

    As a veteran of the Viet Nam era, we laughed at how ridiculous this film was. It bore zero resemblance to the conflict. During that time there was so much public opinion against the war, Wayne being an establishment icon, wanted to put that side on film. The war was good and right, to him. As a product of public culture is certainly has value but it is pretty much a wash in my mind as an entertainment vehicle.

As far as movies go everybody in the older movies are for a lack of better words type cast in that role. Example John Wayne as compared to Jeff Bridges ,,, can't be done ! there is only one " one eyed fat man " and it ain't Jeff Bridges. Love his work but common. PS. Steve Mc Queen ( the king of cool ) is in believable. Based on the all star cast alone it should be on any John Wayne list. That set must have blown the minds of the crew, extras and visitors. Icons all over the place.
