THANK YOU!!!! After storing my saw through the winter with sta-bil in the gas, when I pulled the cord on my 036 the engine would not turn. I watched 15 videos when I came upon your video. You said you need to push in the decompression valve before starting the saw(which I'd forgotten I had to do) I did that and the saw started right up.
I had an 036 and loved the power it had. Couldn't keep crankshaft seals from leaking. I went through 4 pistons in 3 years, the last piston only ran exactly 12 minutes... I couldn't put up with it any more. Traded for a 361,, so far, so good,, but it doesn't have quite as much power.
That is a beautiful 036. Practically show room condition 9 out of 10. I own the first generation non pro 036 that I use as a backup saw. Very good, reliable chainsaws.
Talking about showroom condition i have a 036 bought back in 2001 and built probably between 1996-1998 that it is in mint unused condition. Not a drop of oil or gas ever through it!!! Not even a scratch with a 20" bar.
I have an 036pro with a 25" bar, and 029super with a 20" bar, an 039 with a 25" bar and an 044 with a 28" bar. All run great but the 036pro and 029super are both screamers that run exceptionally well in the top end. Love Stihl and won't own anything else.
I have the same saw i messed with the tuning screws now I don't know if I am running it properly I hope I don't burn the motor up. The saw leaks most of the oil when in storage. Please help.
I have the same saw. And today I couldn't get it to start after I cut a notch in a sliver maple. And it wanted to die after letting of the trigger. And would not start after that. Please help.
I want to know the same question? I got a 036 given to me but it's missing the air filter cover and it's master control switch is red instead of back trying to get more info I what I have. It does have a decomp and it's a metal tag too. Any inputs would help.
cc means cubic centimeters. It refers to the displacement of the piston from the top of the stroke to the bottom of the stroke. 1000 cc is equal to 1 liter, so 61cc is .061 liter.

Thanks for the tip about taking off the muffler to see the piston side wall! Great info!

I love my ms 360 pro it runs great it' s well built saw.
just bought one of these off a guy for $100. works good but needs a good cleaning though
is a 034 super bigger than this saw? on a saw this size is there much of a difference in power between a 18" or 20" bar?
I have the same saw i messed with the tuning screws now I don't know if I am running it properly I hope I don't burn the motor up. The saw leaks most of the oil when in storage. Please help.
I feel your pain man.... try and get a tach

for a guy 240, the foot hold is useless.... your boot doesn't fit into it.
Brett Allen
You don’t put the entire boot in like you gonna ride the thing. Just the corner of the boot.
You wouldn't happen to have a cylinder cover and back air shroud that you would like to sell?
im looking at a 036 with out a decompression button does that tell the age or mean anything?
without the de comp button its a no pro model. pro just has the de comp and i think a compensating carb
by the way I noticed your in oregon so am I
what is the difference between the 036 and the ms360 or 361 or 362
362 is mtronic carburetion, there probably some small updates between the 036 pro and ms360. The 361 got an updated look.
What's the difference between the 036 and the 036 pro?

Adjustable oiler, decomp valve, compensating carb, bigger air filter,
Can anyone explain to me what a 61 cc motor is?
cc means cubic centimeters. It refers to the displacement of the piston from the top of the stroke to the bottom of the stroke.
1000 cc is equal to 1 liter, so 61cc is .061 liter.
61 concaved cuts it’s how many cuts you can do with one side of your chain sharper than the other
