  • Hi! How's it going?!
As the title states, today I'm sharing with you what it has been like for me, and continues to be, with Dyspraxia, otherwise known as Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD).
This is a disorder that isn't as well known and I don't hear people speak about as much as other neurodiverse conditions such as dyslexia, add, adhd ect. So I thought I would share my experience, what it's been like, how it specifically affects me and how I cope.
It is not a condition you can simply "grow out" of. It is life long, however there are ways to help manage the condition.
Dyspraxia does not affect an individuals intelligence.

This is amazing, I suffer greatly with social situations and had to come to terms with how dyspraxia/dyslexia/autism affects me. I was always told dyspraxia is a part of me not the whole of me gets me through. More needs to be done for earlier diagnosis for children who have it I was fortunate really to have the help

I've only known about my dyspraxia for a few months (in my 40's) and had always just assumed I was useless and stupid in many ways. It's so powerful to see others discussing it so openly and validating the ways I experience dyspraxia...because there's still a huge part of me that just thinks "yeah but you're also just useless and stupid" :( Thanks for making this!

I'm dyspraxic and I approve this message. Everything you said resonates so much with me. It's one of the most unknown disabilities and because we're on the autism spectrum It's the worst and best of both worlds tbh there's nowhere near enough awareness made about it.

This video is great I'm currently in the process of being diagnosed with dyspraxia but somehow it's taking it's time as the NHS can't find avenues to diagnose an adult with dyspraxia. I struggle on a daily basis with diffrent things I got support during exams but didn't do great. I can't write on a bit of paper for someone to read sometimes I struggle
Thanks for posting I have liked the video and hopefully watch more

Huge respect for sharing this powerful video. I resonate with many of your experiences. In school though I was a chatterbox and that masked that something else was up. I also drive, sheer force of will and lots of practice. When I am behind the wheel I am on a mission, so despite my clumsiness outside of a car I've been told I'm a good driver... hyperfocus. Don't ask me to park though! Failed my first test on parallel parking. Passed my second as it wasn't tested :) Regularly get caught repeating things, usually three times. Also completely fail when out in public and someone addresses me. Deer in the headlights, mind blank...
    Great video

Love this video 😀 its amazing how it varies from person to person. I knew before I even went to school so very lucky as it meant my parents got me the right surrport. My handwriting was and still is bad unfortunately luckily after the age of 6 my speech was fine . Secondary school especially was difficult for me but my teaching assistants and most of my teachers were so supportive and my 2 best friends helped me as well when I needed them . Organisation for me back then was a main fault like getting my homework done and in ontime remembering homework school books making sure my bag was Packed and ready unfortunately a few teachers didn't understand or wouldn't excuse it so unfortunately a few times I got detention for not handing in homework. Maths was a subject I didn't get couldn't take it In and that would be my daydreaming time 🤣. Getting dressed I'd fine now but my school uniform was a nightmare couldn't do my tie buttons after pe jesus it was awful especially year 7 . My form tutor alm through school had to remind me to Tuck my shirt in 🤣🤣. Now my biggest weakness is clumsiness still but over the years my skills and learning had improved so much

I can relate to this comment so much it's given me flashbacks 😅organisation wasn't my strongest point either in high school. At one point I'd keep all my books in my bag so I wouldn't forget 🙈 no homework got done but I had my books 😅 I'm glad you enjoyed this video and thank you for commenting!

I was diagnosed at 10 with Dyspraxia and Asperger at 14 so I completely understand how challenging it can be dealing with 2 neuro disorders, I was quite lucky because I had support through secondary school although due to me struggling to concentrate I still didn't do very well. For me it was very confusing because my Dyspraxia would affect me in some ways whereas in some circumstances my Asperger would counter-act the symptoms of it. For example I would be very focused when in IT or science yet in English or maths I would fail because I couldn't concentrate in those particular subjects.

I am a 55-year old man who learned recently he had dyspraxia. Driving is a pain and I have not driven in years, though I always renew my licence. I can't ride a bicycle and I was never good at team sports. But I learned how to swim. In a way, I am glad to see I am not alone. I have no dyslexia though. I was very good in school and even got a Master's degree, although my handwriting was a challenge. This is a condition where no two people are the same. I am good under stress situations ( moving, dealing with ill parents, etc).

I'd started a channel myself and I really like getting out and filming things but I really struggle infront of camera, words just are hard to come out and I feel my speech to be slurred and lazy sounding. A common theme I'm noticing with these developmental coordination disorder videos is the lack of focus on the complete lack of fetal development in the womb as a contributing factor to the disorder, the key word here being development. Maybe it's because I'm a Pisces or maybe because I was born 1 lb 8 oz i.e around the size of a coke can, but I've always found baths, and swimming underwater and staying underwater to be very therapeutic and grounding per se haha. Perhaps, maybe it's because I watched other videos of other people with Dyspraxia or as it is known in America Developmental Coordination Disorder or DCD, and I noticed that they never seem indicate that at least the part of the disorder is biological in nature and the other is a dysfunction in what would be normally regulated brain functions i.e motor skills, etc. You can practice repetition and routine, you can kind of work your way out of it, but it never really goes away, of course. Just my two cents, chin up and onward!

like this video I was diagnosed with it when I was kind but only recently got told that I had this. the way I remember left and right is I broke my right thumb and not my left . Yah I wasn’t good at making note’s even as it was being written I still can’t do that as for with talking I trip over my words at times or I’ll talk fast . Sports for me was hit and miss my spilling is not the best that way I use alto correct on here and texting as well as using a dictionary and I’m bad at maths and I can’t fully read the old fashioned clock fully and a lot of people have tried to help me with that but it doesn’t click but I can understand/read the digital ones as for condition for myself it’s hard for me to explain so I’m going to leave that at that .

I'm pretty sure I have dyspraxia but undiagnosed as I'm 42yo and this diagnosis didn't exist when I was in school. I was very shy as well so I fell under the radar all the time. A friend who is a psychologist is the one who suggested I have this. Before I was thinking I had Aspergers. But then again maybe I'm both. Kinda pointless to get a diagnosis this late in life for me. I've always known I was different from everyone else but didn't know why. My channel is about health, fitness, & diabetes management but you can definitely tell that I'm an Aspie or dyspraxia. I really don't like watching myself on video talking.

My Son is 34 has Dyspraxia , dyslexia, dyscalcula, ADHD . I don’t think he will learn to drive , he couldn’t tie his shoe laces till age 11. I have no coordination ADhd , and dyscalcula .
My daughter with Asperger’s and ADHD was clumsy but not diagnosed with dyspraxia.
Most girls with ADHD day dream in classroom setting , it is to escape like meditation, you don’t want to be at school , but if it’s a subject you like you can hyper focus , most girls with ADHD are low on hyper activity scale and more distracted and inattentive in classroom.

"But who doesn't bang on the door frames?" They don't :) I presume this from the surprise on people's faces.
Sunday I have my first speaking exam in a foreign language ever and want to start it with information about dyspraxia and aprosody, which have a negative impact in fluence and accents. It has even in my mother language.
So when I saw your eyes looking into emptiness due those little brain blackouts and other time searching in the corners of the room for any working synapses, I felt like you're my closest relative. I actually saw myself in you and that was the best feeling of my evening.
I'm AuDHD and my BF is probably ASD person and... he didn't recognize any difference in the way of your fluency or eye movement in comparision to other people.
