It feels like the Vita has been neglected and abandoned by Sony, all their focus is on the 4 :(

They put quite a few good games on it the first 2 years like god of war collection,killzone mercenary,unit 13 and uncharted golden abyss but when sales failed to increase they stopped so blame 3rd parties more when its missing key titles like gta psp highest seller
Vita's biggest mistake is the memory card.
This, but people also forget that Modnation Racers got no online mode. I'm pretty sure that would have sold the game, and especially the system itself much more.
It kept me from buying the Vita.
Just bad choices overall. I can't comprehend how Sony fucked it up so much, because the system was really cool.

Yea, the pricing of the memory cards is just plain dumb. They shouldn't even be half of what they are. It made the lack of internal storage hurt even more.

They would need exclusives... It isn't a viable investment atm. Maybe when they can scale down a ps4 but with cloud gaming advancing then we might see one.
I feel despite the failure of the “ps vita” if Sony brought back another handheld and called it “psp” it would make great competition for the switch but they would have to have an equal amount of games and some exclusives

When an 10 year old handheld console literally rivals a 4 year old hybrid game console, you know it was made well.
yep... Its sad to be honest because the switch is NOTHING special the only reason Nintendo is doing so well is because they have absolutely no competition. Hopefully Xbox and Sony throw some handhelds into the market because we need the competition. I just bought a switch expecting SO much more but instead what I got was a disappointment. Digital triggers that feel horrible, Loose uneven feeling bumper buttons that are awful, Joysticks that are not fluid at all and have a sort of crunch when you move them around which makes precision difficult, No BT headphone support even though its capable of it, Most Non-Nintendo games are ran at a horrible resolution that can give you a headache, The vast majority of games do not have online mode and if they do it typically sucks even though the switch should be all about online mode, The screen has huge bezels which gives it an outdated look, and the user interface is extremely simple and allows for no customization I mean it doesn't even separate the games by categories or anything... It doesn't let you know which game is currently inserted nor does it separate the digital from the physical... Nope instead they just throw it all in one dumb clusterfk of a list and I have to scroll through the games and look for a little icon above said game to see which it is even though they should all be separate lists or I should at least have that option. Oh cant forget that awful brick charger they give you and the fact that they send you a plastic screen without including a screen protector on a $300 console.
Sadly I really could go on and on and the biggest problem is the fact that so many games run at horrible resolutions and the lack of online multiplayer. But really for the price it should be so much better... Not only is it 300 but you have to spend an arm and a leg on games and accessories like 80 bucks for joycons which as I mentioned before aren't even that great.... I cant believe the triggers and bumpers feel so cheap same with the joysticks. I was not expecting a rough joystick I was expecting a smooth joystick which is not an unreasonable expectation on something this expensive. I remember my PS Vita joysticks feeling way better plus the games looked pretty much the same quality too if not better... Have you played MX vs ATV ALL OUT on the switch? I have and let me tell you I'm sick to my stomach that I spent money on that game. It looks like a PSP game its just so awful it looks like its 240p resolution. Meanwhile there are full-sized games on the switch that look way better even from other third party developers.
Nintendo really just has no respect for their customer base and just lives off of their past self. I'm not saying the switch should have had revolutionary hardware but it should have had better hardware than it does have... Hopefully the pro model fixes most of those issues but I'm not holding my breath... They'll probably fix a couple of those issues then wait for the next revision after that to do anything else. The top three that have to see a change in the pro model to be worth it are Better Joycons (Analog triggers more premium buttons ect), better processor, and Smaller bezels with more useable screen which will make it easier to use the touch screen and make the device look more modern. Then they also need to change their software and allow us to customize our Nintendo Switch's which should have been an option from release.
Sony ps Vita for life, ik switch kinda has better specs but ps Vita way better in my opinion
@@ciggy.fe11 considering the vita was made in 2011 it is absolutely the better device when you take into account tech availability at the time and the fact that the vita was 250 I believe though they had more expensive models. The ps vita was amazing though thats for sure. The switch was outdated even in 2017 and half the games on the switch are low rez messes.

It's important to mention that the LCD screen is specific to second PS VITA model, whereas the first PS VITA model has an amazing OLED screen 👍

OLED screen is the only good thing on fat while slim has micro usb port charge, better battery life, no burn in screen, and no gpu crash, so yeah i prefer slim over fat
Nofal Derien OLED screen is not a simple detail, it makes all the difference in this case (by the way, we can see that Nintendo is finally using this on the Switch, ten years later compared to the PS VITA and is presenting this as a solid commercial argument) 👍
Furthermore, I really don't like micro usb for charging (I own a smartphone with this kind of port and honestly it's not perfect at all) and I don't have any problems with proprietary material when it works well (maybe USB-C would have been a good idea, because is reversible, performant and used on many devices nowadays ; and it would have been very funny and useful to charge Nintendo's and Sony's hardware with the same cable). For the rest, I don't know exactly how many hours you can play with the Slim version but what I get with my Fat is enough for me, and I don't understand what you mean by "no burn in screen" or "no gpu crash" (maybe these are issues specific to some games or some applications but personally I never got this kind of issue)
@Alexandre Berthault Problem with the oled they tend to have problems as they age so I bought 2 nice slims from japan. Aqua and neon orange. I do miss the oled but mine for some reason looks like it's dying.

I dont think thats happening, at least with gaming culture of today. If portable gaming becomes THE way all gamers are playing, then yeah we’ll see one. They’re focused on the Xbox product first and foremost, and out of all the companies that have tried to compete with Nintendo, none of them have had long term success with a portable. Right now with Mobile gaming and now the Switch, a portable console is a fools game. Thats why Sony dipped out. Even the Switch still has room for failure

They already enabled stream/remote play with certain xbox to pc linked games. I.e. you can play Forza 7 on a Microsoft Surface with the xbox controller

I knew it existed since its announcement but thought it died years ago when they barely marketed it and it suffered from poor sales in US and Europe. The memory card prices turned me off from buying it since day one and it still does till this day.

Which one you should buy depends on the games you play. The ps vita has a lot of JRPG games, while the switch is able the play things like Pokemon, Mario, etc. The only reason the vita is way less popular is because Sony thought it was a "wonderful" idea to make us have to buy a memory card.
And the hacking community has developed a ps vita SD adapter which costs like 10 bucks, which lets you use SD cards as memory cards. The simple consumer will always be easily persuaded by the media while those who research their products before buying will always get the most out of their purchases (such as myself). Here are the arguments Nintendo fanboys use to devalue the ps vita and my counterarguments.
1. Memory cards cost too much. Nope, just buy a ps vita SD adapter
2.Frame drops in games like borderlands 2. Nope, you can overclock the ps vita cpu and gpu if you hack your vita and play games in 60 fps.
3. Ps vita has no games. Nope, ps vita has more indie, JRPG, visual novels, monster hunting, and anime games than the 3ds or switch. Just because you're into mindless easy games made for children like mario doesn't mean the ps vita sucks.
I could go on, but I think I made my point.
JRPGs? Go for a PSP instead :)

Hmmm fanboy much? No need to insult someones opinion. Sony did abandon it in the west for the most part, but Japan's Sony as well as indie developers are still pushing out games frequently. Also the ability to play your ps4 library on the go puts it neck and neck with the Switch. And affordability-wise, you can get a used vita and ps4 for $300, same price as a Switch. Both are neat, but on-the-go and portability I would take Vita all the way. Screw Sony for making those memory cards so expensive and proprietary though.

Thank you for having a brain unlike these idiots. Remote play is more than enough of a reason for me to say ps vita > switch. But that's just my opinion. Not to mention switch games are like 60 dollars while you could technically get vita games for free, though I don't condone piracy. The vita is an incredible hacking machine and underappreciated for its time.
Lol I just this each system has its pluses and its flaws. Vita by no means is perfect, but it is great in its ways. I sold mine a couple years back, and just a couple weeks ago I purchased another, 3.65 so no hacks yet but soon enough there will be. Also running emulators is incredible. The size and ergonomics are wonderful. I can't go anywhere without my vita anymore.
You can get a psvita adapter and put any micro sd card on amazon for $14

A stock vita will not even recognize an sd2vita adapter. Gotta already have a hacked vita and use something like
- autoplugin to get sd2vita plugin working OR
- manually install the plugin and edit the config file
Like I said. Using sd2vita isnt as simple as buying adapter from amazon.

Try importing a vita from Japan. I imported a used Vita in Immaculate shape from an eBay seller for $110 shipped and they usually go for that price on eBay. It also helps that Japan got all of the cool colors.

@@smurf2374 and it was pretty much dropped off at the post office, accessibility isn’t always what makes a better system/portable. The psp thrived and is still talked about in a popular way. As much the way the vita can do and as much as Sony dropped the ball. Sales figures show despite vitas lack of sales psp is way more or was way more demanding... ps vita had two models while psp had 5 and special edition bundles. Sadly feats of the vita still isn’t enough to warrant to outshine psp.
And don’t get me wrong I’m not hating nor do I hate the vita, I got a vita and psp both. But in the end would you rather a console with better functionality or better library?
Great video! I was looking for something like this and I'm glad you went into detail. It's a shame that there seems to be less support for the vita. It seems like it has pretty good specs to be playing games that get released for PS3 and PS4 like Attack on Titan, Dragon Quest Heroes 2, Persona 4 etc. A lot of games released on Vita seem like they're also on Steam so I don't have a reason to get one but Nintendo, on the other hand, won me over with their Nintendo exclusives games like Kirby, Pokemon, Smash Bros, etc.

Some people prefer Sony's game. Yknow more action, jrpgs. And some people prefer Nintendo's games for fun playing. There's no need to compare, it depends on what kind of game you like 😉🎋

Yeah. Yet there are those people who say Sony is better nonetheless. People have different tastes. And that has to be respected.
I'm not gonna lie, the JRPGs are what got me to buy a PS4 over a Switch, especially since I saved so much money as the PS4 has been out for a while and I was able to find a refurbished unit that worked well. While I do love Nintendo's first-party franchises, I'm afraid that the day to get a Switch for me won't come until Animal Crossing is released on it (if that happens anytime soon) since I've been devoted to that franchise for over eight years now.
I just wish Nintendo and Sony hadn't split up in 1992, then I wouldn't have to make these decisions today...

Honestly, just get the console FOR THE GAMES you want! For most people, it will be Switch. Personally, i got the Vita for Persona 4 Golden.
Got a switch but I'm buying a vita for Persona 4, odin sphere, dragon's crown, muramasa rebirth and some more. Switch game library is kinda weak right now, I already finished BotW and Mario Odyssey, so a Vita will keep me busy until Bayonetta 3, Smash and Metroid 3 come.
Both are amazing.

The switch wins for me personally. I have a PSvita and it would be soooo nice but Sony stopped making games for it really. The switch wins because even if the 3rd parties don't support it Nintendo will still make awesome games for it until the system is done.

Paul Barnes definitely better, the switch is so crisp and vibrant. I'm comparing them both right now. The vita looks a bit washed out too, not as bright as the switch. I put them both at the highest brightness.
Bucky Flores Would you say the switch in handheld mode is basically a handheld with Wii U standard graphics or better.I personally was satisfied with the Wii U's graphics so so having that standard of graphics on a handheld is more than good enough to me.I'm thinking about buying a switch but I'll probably wait for more games to come out before rushing in.

It really doesn't matter much between the Vita and Switch. You can save a bit more and get both.
Switch should be bought new. Vita, on the other hand, is only available used and they go for around $80 these days. It was expensive when this video was made but not now.

Do you already have a switch? If not, I would go for a switch over a vita. Not knocking the vita, I think it's a great system, but it recently got discontinued and hasn't gotten any 1st party support since 2015. The switch is more relevant, powerful, sleeker, and has tons of great games both 1st and 3rd party which are still being released.

I put much time and effort into studying and thinking what I really want/buy. I'm also not a fan of nintendo games.

I'm not really a fan of Switch first party games or even some third party like Mario, BOTW, etc. I do like to play some third party games such as Overwatch, Skyrim, DOOM, etc. But I can already play all that on my PC. There's a *ton* of games I really want to play on my Vita cause it can also bring some new experience like the game, Tearaway. I also want to try Gravity Rush, P4Golden, etc. By which a Vita can also be bought for less than 200$.

Vita didn't die a horrible death. I have over 30 games on mine. Hell, there are 2 Vita's in this household. (Both the 1000 and the 2000 versions)
You do realize the console is still fresh and new right? Like it doesn't take a couple days to develop a big AAA title, that being said it looks like there are a lot a third party companies supporting it so it looks like we can make the safe assumption that it would have a bright future.

Crazy to think back to the humongous cartridges for Neo-Geo and the 16-bit systems. Now we have exponentially larger games on an SD card. Crazy.

I've had my Vita for 5 years and just bought a Switch. I love the Vita and I've had (and will hopefully continue to have) many, many hours of enjoyment out of it, but I have to admit that, in almost every area where Sony stumbled with the Vita, Nintendo instead made great decisions with the Switch. I love not having to buy a proprietary memory card. I love having a handheld with all the controller buttons of a console with no compromises. However, in a sense it's not fair to compare the two since the Vita came out in 2012 and the Switch in 2017...

great video. I'm shocked this was not supported as much as the switch and had similar features. i got mine mostly for remote play.
I'm 3:30 minutes in and this video has already helped me understand, not only the differences between the two, but the Switch also. I don't know how many videos and research I've done already, but this video is crazy helpful.
Switch now has a lot more games now so don't complain about it having none.

On the Switch either, you're paying $60 for 2 or more years old games or playing Nintendo first party games. Most Nintendo first parties are either refresh of older titles or something really kid-friendly... Which not everyone is into.
Most of the people I know irl don't like Mario and all those crap. They want something like God of War, Halo, or GTA. I don't mean the Switch need to have those games but I'm referring to the genre.
Vita is so underrated... I had all of Nintendo's handhelds but Vita is by far my fav portable ever. Amazing games, amazing build quality and screen quality... really a pity that Sony gave up on him way too early.

If you ask me, I honestly think the Vita is the better system. Then again I'm only looking for the aftermarket usage and controls. The Vita is probably the only system that I have ever used that I fell in love with at the store. I sadly don't own one, but wish I had the cash to drop on one. The secondhand prices are still a bit much for me.

In 2017, I cannot say the Vita over the Switch. I've had the Vita for over 3 years now and it's basically dead outside of Japan now. Sure there are some Indie games and some very niche Japanese titles still coming for it, but at this point I can't recommend it really. It doesn't help that a memory card costs an arm and a leg for.
Also it just seems a bit early to be making this type of comparison when the Switch just came out and all it really has is Zelda, Bomberman, Snipperclips, and a bunch of indie games. Get a Vita for cheap if possible. Hard to recommend a Switch when it's brand spanking new and Nintendo is still working out the kinks and such of the system.

Member Berry obviously different artstyles. I agree tho that Mercenary is the best looking game on the Vita with great use of post processing effects. If you want something for similar comparison, Fast RMX is a better choice with its neon and sharp artstyle.

Just FYI, which a softmodded Vita (which you can very easily softmod) you can place a microSD card in an adapter and place that in the game slot, and have that used instead of the Sony memory card. I have a 200GB sandisk card for example, I've seen people having 256 GB ones, but I don't know if that's the limit. Aside from the cost, the Sony cards max at 64GB I think, also having an SD card means you can pop it out, plug into a fast (e.g. USB 3.0) card reader and upload data much faster than through connecting the console to the PC.
My cartridge rattles too , at first i thought it was weird but then i remembered that some Gameboy and Gameboy advance cartridges rattle to but work fine !

Not sure if it's more modern or not, but definitely comparable in this regard. Because Vita was way ahead of its time, and Sony & and the developers just didn't really know what to do with it, plus Sony was scared of mobile phones, and take a way back to its money printing PS4.
Chaos sure it's his opinion, I don't disown it. But the spec says it all, they use different resolutions and to say Vita is sharper is not true spec wise. Although the Vita is smaller so it looks decent but not as sharp. I do own a ps so what's your point about being a fanboy ?

2018!!! I just ordered the new ps vita slim & 16gb card. Got No regrets! There may be not coming any new AAA Titles for the vita. But there are so many games you can play on the PS Vita almost 1040 games and that's counting out the PS1 and PSP games. Maybe I'll get the switch after sometime. But for now I am going to enjoy playing my PS vita games.

I've had the Ps vita since 2012 and it's staying in my collection. The back library for me is deep enough that I'd never sell the vita unless Sony made a Ps vita 2 and it was backwards compatible. My collection stands at around 30 games. Only rpgs I own are Soul Sacrafice, Persona 4 and Y's. I LOVE MY PS VITA!!!

@@victorgalindo9871 For the first 2-3 years quite a few major titles were made in and for the US like uncharted and killzone but when vita sales failed to increase they stopped. Japan still supports it but their system sales weren't as low either

The reason that the game card containers are huge is probably for the box art and for the long description behind it, ya know the "Explore the vast world", "Discover an artifact for whatever reason", "Save a princess, yay", or "Defeat Bob, the evil of Bobs" all sorts of shit that gets you hooked to buy it.
Just a friendly tip. Don't put your vita/switch in your pocket, without a hard case. It will break your analog stick much faster due to unnecessary force on it.
Vita is small enough for my pocket without one and I havent had issues with the analogs

Can't say it's fair per se, comparing a device that came out in 2011 and a new device, but I only decided to try out handheld devices recently so it was between the choice of Switch, 3DS or Vita and you gave a real thorough explanation and walkthrough of the differences so it's very much appreciated
I would like to add that I decided on purchasing a Vita for multiple reasons :
i. Has shit ton of games if you combine PSP, PS1, Vita game libraries
ii. It has a huge variety of RPG games, particularly JRPG games which I love
ii. It's cheaper (considering I'm getting a second hand PS Vita)
Anyways for those debating between Nintendo device or Sony, it truly comes down to what you want. If you're looking for games that are more frequently marketed, it seems Nintendo may be better but Sony (or at least the handheld devices that I know of) provides players with a lot of niche games that are not often heard of, which I personally prefer.
I would like to highlight that I actually don't have either device yet, will be getting my Vita tomorrow but my comment is based on research. That's all I wanted to say. :)
