  • There are many things considered to be common knowledge about Hitler. He was vegetarian, partial to the toothbrush mustache, a failed fine artist and a Nazi despot responsible for the reprehensible, systematic murder of six million Jews. What has only recently surfaced is the assertion that Hitler was also high off his face for the entirety of World War II. As was most of the third reich. That’s according to Blitzed by Norman Ohler, the international bestseller that’s been translated into 26 languages

      He was actually never kicked out. He tried to enter 3 times, but he was not accepted. He went on to become an architect later, and was pretty successful in that regard. He and Albert Speer started planning a new city, "Germania" which would have taken the place of Berlin after they had invaded most of Europe. But they attacked Russia and the rest is history xD

      Nice propaganda there, probably the same source as "hitler had one ball" and "hitler is still alive".
      I work as historian and am from switzerland. I read Ohlers book. It does contain some facts but sadly often drifts into "rumors" and "assumptions". Of course if Ohler had read the actual documents and private letters between Hitler's doctor and pharmacist, he would be aware that Hitler was not high during most of WW2. In fact, he started to "be high" in December 1943 because before that he did not take anything that would get you high. Of course academic books, original documents and other historical facts don't make as much money or grab the attention of the USA, so ignoring sources and drifting into assumptions and rumors is of course more profitable for Ohler. As i see, it's already a hit in the USA in the form of the book called "Blitzed".
      I also like how he talks about Waffen SS troops and Luftwaffe pilots being "high on methamphetamines" which is incorrect considering that the amount a Pervitin tablet had of Methamphetamine they were not any more "high" than american paratroopers like the 101st Airborne or the Airforce Pilots who were prescribed to take regular Amphetamine in about the same amount that would equalize with the Methamphetamine usage of axis soldiers.
      Books on "high american heroes" of course wouldn't sell well because it would shatter the myth of "the axis were super high you guys while the allies were clean and alert purely by nature".
      Among historians Ohlert and other "pop historians" aren't considered anymore reliable than "the tabloid version of history books" for a reason.

    • @the_local_bigamist
      @the_local_bigamist Před rokem +2

      That's an interesting question. IME, certain drugs do affect your ability to feel empathy and certainly help you disregard the potential consequences of any actions, with alcohol being the number one offender. Amphetamines also give people inflated confidence. And opiates help people deal with trauma, and also cope with stressors (or at least make people think that they are coping, even though they really aren't if they are an addict). This would deffo make a great dissertation.

    2:00 - Eukodal is oxycodone. IV Heroin is 2x stronger than IV morphine, or 6x stronger than oral morphine. IV oxycodone is between 1.5 - 2x stronger than oral morphine, and just as potent as IV morphine (it’s complex equation of factoring in bioavailability and morphine milligram equivalent doses).
    So ultimately, IV heroin (diamorphine) is 2x more potent than IV oxycodone. That’s why we generally have heroin as illicit (except some European countries like England or Switzerland).
