I've applied Cerakote's Trim Restore. IMO the key is to properly prep and apply it in ideal conditions. Thus far my client has had it for over 4 months and gets compliments all the time on her Jeep. It lives outside and doesn't get washed often. Looking forward to the Spring to do my SUV's black cladding.
Wow I’m sold, wish they had a bulk option
They do I believe@@Danielxperez14
thank you for the update! looking forward to new tests.
i still dont understand why your page hasnt blown up. way more real testing, unbiased than someone like pan
After watching your prior video, I bought and installed Cerakote Trim Coat on my 2001 Ford F150. Lots of faded black trim on that truck, and a large black hard tonneau as well. That was approximately 6 months ago here in rainy Central Florida, and it still looks terrific. I'm very pleased with the product and the outcome, with two caveats. One, its expensive if you have a lot of black trim to treat and have to buy the wipes (I used an entire box doing my truck). That additional cost might be negated a bit given how long/well it wears. And two, if you accidentally get it on glass, paint, or other trim you don't want it on, stop 'immediately' and wipe it off. It flashes really quick in warmer weather and once it does, you aren't going to get it off. I even tried lacquer thinner on a window I got it on and it still wouldn't come off. Again, I'm overall very pleased with it.
Thanks Josh! Great follow up to the video 2 years ago, so insightful. More videos like this please. I can't wait to see the winner of the Lithium Trim Cubes VS. Cerakote Trim Coat.
Lithium cubes are awesome and the Cerakote looks good too. I also like the Gtechnique C4 and I just bought the McKees ceramic trim restorer which I have not tried yet. Thank you for the video!
I applied Cera-Kote (sp?) to the trim on my 2015 MKX 2 years ago, and it is washed weekly. Still looks GREAT!
I’m so glad you did this result video. I’ve been thinking about adding trim restoration to my business so thank you
Looking forward to that upcoming trim restorer vid!
Thanks for the update vid!!
Thanks for the update!!
Have never used the lithium products but have had great success with the cerakote stuff. Had the trim coat on much of the plastic for over a year and still looks almost new
Cerakote is the better value as well… but the trim cubes are really like cause it’s a little sponge block which is really nice for application
Great video as always. Was looking for a solution for all the plastic trim on my Telluride. Thanks for your input!
You bet!
Put cerakote on a Rav4 that was a year old-cleaned plastic with dawn spray and soft brush to remove all oils and dirt before applying and it still looks great. Only drawback, the wipes were not consistent-some wet and others not so much.
Great info - 24K - it's all about long term performance - BIG THANKS TO YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR INFO - 24K
i haven’t been watching as much as i was but is that set up with the table and the workbench behind you new…looks great 👍🏽
I have had the same results with both Cerakote and Lithium products!
Whle you are at it take a look at black rino trim coat . Haven't used it yet but hearing good things . All i use is lithium trim cubes. Thanks for the video.
This video came out Just in time.. my 90 civic wagon has front and back black plastic bumper and side trim that gets faded in the rain and sun.. this info will come in handy..
Awesome glad it helped!
Thanks Josh👍
Great video! But I see that M888 Megs coating in the background! That’s the review I’m waiting for 👍
I'd like to see if you can reapply the Lithium Trim Cubes over itself and see any new improvement.
The selling point for me with Solution Finish has been the ability to reapply when it eventually fades more. Most trim coatings seal up the plastic permanently.
Have you tried using plain old Penetrol? Seems to be mostly linseed oil but I put it on tires, one of which is a rear mounted spare that gets hammered by the elements and it seems to work a lot better than any tire and trim dressing. It is a little slow to dry but once set, your good to go.
Those original videos are how I noticed your channel and made me subscribe. LOL. Everytime I would see that van in recent videos in the background I always try to see how they are holding up, lol.
Haha nice!!!
I’ve used the Renew Protect on tires & got several months out of the 2-part system. Thx for your reviews!
Awesome! I’m really excited to dive in to their products
What’s there 2 part system can’t find it on there website
It's using their BLAK product, followed by either GLOZ (for slightly glossier finish) or SATN (for a more matte) finish. @@caseypeploe1273
Wow! Way to stretch a 2 minute video into over 8 minutes. Good info but way too much extraneous information.
hey did you ever make a follow up video comparing those last 3 products you mentioned? I couldn't find it. Thanks!
Josh, try that black stuff. (That’s the name) I put it on an avalanche 6months ago and it still black black
Have you tried RENEW PROTECT- BLAK? If not would you do a video critiquing it? Love your channel its a big help.
I put Turtle Wax Graphene Acrylic trim Restorer on my F150 which is parked in the elements 24/7. That was a year ago and it's still holding up. So cheap and so good.
I reviews that one in a different video. I was super happy with the results of that as well!
Jimbo, we know it is you posting this TW comment.
Awesome!!! I bought Cerakote based off your review 6mo ago, so far it looks fantastic! I coated 4 of our vehicles with it, they all are holding up like a champ. Finally someone not dogging on Cerakote. So far their Ceramic coating is holding up too. Haters gonna hate.
Every test I’ve seen says that the Cerakote is the best. It lasted almost a year in one test I saw.
Yea this car had it applied over 2 years ago and I leave it outside. It’s pretty impressive
@@imjoshv , I’ve been using the 303 products since I bought my F150 in December of 2019. It still looks great because it has great UV protection, but you have to reapply often.
Do you have a way to clean mildew and mold off the upholstery? Cars been sitting outside during a Pacific NW winter.
I’m looking for a video on the non-painted hardtop on the Jeep Wrangler/Gladiator. Specifically protecting it from new versus restoring after fading or damage. Thanks
I would just be curious if you ever tried Forever Black. I know many folks that have used it, including myself, and it works great. I'll try a couple of these others to see how it compares.
I watched your original vids & they are why I became a subcribed viewer. I want to know what happens if you repeat & re-coat areas previously done in cerakote products... can they be re-restored or are they now locked??? Please can you try?
Since Meguires stopped producing #39, what are you using to clean the plastics beforehand. Other than certain Nissan plastics, #39 followed by Solution Finish dye has been my go-to.
Josh, you’ve been my favorite and most helpful detailing channel on this platform for a while now! What is your recommendation for a cost effective paint sealant that’s cheaper than bead maker?
Bead it up from 3D
F11, hands down.
collinite 476 gives you roughly 6 months protection parked outdoors (8 months indoors). Company advertises 8-12 months but they like to embellish :P
Lithium and Cerakote were predictable winners based on what I've seen. Thank you for the confirmation.
Can you apply a 'ceramic coating' over Cerakote?
I'm a big fan of cerakote , I use the trim restorer , the headlight kit and the paint sealant . I just came to find out they have a tire dressing which I can't wait to try
They do! It’s currently only available on Walmart.com I think. I’ve been testing it and so far I’m really liking it. It did 2 coats to get a darker sheen that I wanted but the product goes a long way!
@@imjoshvthis is great to hear! I ordered their tire shine direct from Cerakote a month ago and have yet to use it but now I’m stoked to try it out!
@@imjoshv you should make a video about it , I haven't seen one video of the product yet
Good stuff
I would like to see Epic trim restorer added to your long-term test.
I previously applied Mothers Back to Black on my truck trim and have been extremely unhappy with how it looks. That is why I started watching videos on the best product to restore auto trim. Here is my question: do I just wash the truck and trim really well and apply Cerakote's Trim Restore on the trim, or do I need to remove the Back to Black before I apply the Cerakote? If I need to remove the Back to Black how would you recommend I do that?
is it advised to apply new plastic trims with this product?
I've seen lots of vidos about trim restoring of older, fading trim. But what about trim on a new car? What should one use on a new or almost new car? I know Cerakote is not for use on new trim and most likely others
This is awesome. Going to add to the arsenal.
Btw, how can I get in contact with you Josh?
Hi you can shoot me an email to joshv@dtlrsupply.com
Also take into consideration the climate and temperature of your location. Plus where you park your car. Shaded, sunny. Indoors etc.
Nice....
👍👍👍
What can I use to make the top rack on my car look new ?
I have a new car with new trim. should i use a restorer or a maintenance product? which one?
Hey Josh, i see Meguiars M888 in the background. When will we see this in action?
Soon very soon! Just got it in the other day
I went to use my Lithium cubes and they went dry in the little packages. I love Lithium products though
I saw a review about that and they answered saying that the packages weren’t sealed properly during production.. I think they sorted that out
Would these restoration products work on the trim on the doors and bumper / plastic portion?
Renew d3 works pretty good on trim
I’m excited to test it out
Awesome Josh! Yes, I did a 2-year update on Lithium Trim Cubes on my Mustang GT on my CZcams channel. Similar results! 💪🏼💪🏼
Good to know mine wasn’t a fluke. Really impressive products!!
Ok, so this is more about trim 'restorer' opposed to trim protector. What would you recommend to use on, say, a new car to preserve and protect the trim? Maybe you have done a video on that already, IDK? Anyway, another great video! Thanks
Use 303 Aerospace protectant.
JV, What about just a ceramic paint coating on the trim?
That should help preserve for sure but with this van it need restoration as well as all the plastics were faded
2k spray can clear lasted me the longest. Lasted about 10 years on my tj fenders and still looked okay
Please state full product name of 2K
@yootoobed pretty much any spray can of clear will work. I used sem. It's automotive grade and a bit higher quality than you find at the box stores.
Anything cream applied; Adams VRT will always win, even over Chemical Guys VRP. Someone performed a massive test of tire dressings and found Adams has the least sling, longest duration, etc. I would assume it performs the same on trim.
Wow that was 2 year ago? Time really hasn't been the same since 2020. You should add the AMMO NYC trim wipe things to the test as well. I've been curious about those
I’ll check them out!
Just bought a new Jeep Wrangler with a lot of Black plastic. I already have Cerakote for one of our older cars. Should I apply it to the new Black plastic trim to keep it from fading or is there something you can recommend to keep it from fading?
Try 303 Aerospace protectant. I've had good results with this stuff.
Lithium Car Care Trim Cubes and Cerakote Trim Coat were the 2 equally best that lasted longest. You're welcome. :-)
Not related to the trim restore, but may I suggest new tires for your work van. Tread looks a little low, especially the rear.
the cerakote did nothing for my trim on my 2023 honda ridgeline
Isnt it easier just to paint it?
Never mind the products, you need to quit driving around on bald tires. So many possible downsides for no good reason.
Have you tried out the meguiars coating yet? Been curious about that one.
Just got it in! I’ll be testing it out soon in a video
@@imjoshvlooking forward to this video! I heard it’s super slick. So we look forward to hear your first hand experience with it
👍
👍👍
Best thing to do is get a scuff pad and paint it flat or simi gloss
Best i have ever used is poorboys world everlasting trim coating.
Interesting I’ll take a look
The van is a great guinea pig 🐖
It’s a pig alright haha
I've got that product and it's messy putting it on.
Which one?
@@imjoshv Renew blak and protect. It was like a watery black dye.
Add the new Turtle Wax trim restore
Also you have to consider the back rear flare is getting the most road debris hitting it which is a further testament to how good Cerakote product works or do you disagree with that analysis. I think the back side of the flares get the most tire dirt being thrown at them but either way I'm happy with Cerakote product on my 2019 Stang. Ps. Nice follow up on your past videos & another good one.!!
