- Inside of the Second World War, there were hundreds of concentration camps opened up across occupied German lands. One of those which isn't so well known is Ohrdruf Concentration Camp, which was a sub camp of Buchenwald. It was only in operation around a year towards the end of World War 2, but it was very deadly and there were many different execution methods used to exterminate the prison population there. But the SS guards initially wanted to exterminate the people inside of Ohrdruf using hard and forced labour, and inside thousands of prisoners never made it out.
Ohrdruf's prisoners were forced to work on railway projects and also dig underground tunnels which it's believed would have been a secret headquarters for the Nazis. Ohrdruf was the first concentration camp liberated by the American Army, and they were disgusted by what they saw. Death was around every corner, and they found many of the former prisoners who had been executed and simply left. Dwight Eisenhower even visited to see what had happened there and was shocked by what he saw at Ohrdruf.

My great nan was in buchenwuld and she said the happiest day of her life was when it was liberated and she also said there are no words to describe how happy she was when it was When it was liberated she said she can never forget that day she used to tell me stories and they were so sad. I cried she she was 16 when she was taken to buchenwuld but she died about 4 years ago and I miss her and her stories
which proves how well she was looked after and survived the allied scorched earth policy and tie fuss out breaks to live to be a 100...thanks for showing us the real truth

General Patton forced 1,000 German Weimar citizens from the town nearest Buchenwald to take a tour of the camp. These citizens claimed they didn't know anything about the camp, or the horrors it contained.

Thank the Good Lord that Gen. Eisenhower had the presence of mind to get cameras in to record these atrocities. Hey knew there would be people that would still deny any of it took place.
Eisenhowewr the Jhugh shipped over 6 Hwood directors (Jhughs) including one called Bi11y Wi1der who is actually caught on camera in foortage i have seen....they were tasked in making a jen oh side out of the fact there were no food or supples due to the scorched earth policy of the allies...sorry to burst ur bubble

Brutal, horrific, disgusting, inhuman they all got what they deserved. I am old enough to remember stories told to me by my mum. They were pure EVIL, even by todays standard. My mum lived in Belgium with her Bon papa. I watch these videos to remember history and the victims. It is gut wrenching every time, but I have to watch, even as my stomach turns. We did not bring enough Nazis and the SS to account for what they did. It is horrible beyond belief, and I truly hope there is a special place in Hell for these monsters!

My grandpa was there and witnessed these things he said that the stench kept making them all throw up
what he witnessed was the result of the allied scorched eath policy ie..no food or supples reached the camps in the weeks before lib which caused the scenes that are forever used to put down the honorable G people

My father and his Infantry group...walked through area until they came upon Orhdruf....he was there...said it was a nightmare...he had seen bad things of war...but this was the worst...Pattons 3rd Army...89th Division..353 Regiment..I Company...Weapons Platton ....3rd Battalion....
Very likely your father was there with my Father in law , Don, at the same time! Don was with the 353 Regiment and was present when the main gate to Ohrdurf was opened up.
I can confirm, by my father in law' Don statement- a recon unit, of the 89th, which was under Patton, Opened the Main gate to Ohrdurf in the morning about 4 hours before the 355 got there, which was under Bradly
my great grandfather was in the 89th division 353rd regiment as well and was also in ohdruf. never got to speak to him about it.
Several US Army outfits were converging all about the same time near Ohrdurf. But Ohrdurf was but one of many camps in that area. They fell under the same.administrative organization. Which was headquartered Out of Buchenwald. Ergo, you hear about several Army outfits claiming to be the "firsT" to free a camp. It gets confusing as most soldiers only knew the approximate area they were in.

to me, the Holocaust survivors should be forced to watch the old videos and view the pictures from Ohrdruf
if this is actually what happened to her by the Germans which eye witness came forward to provide these gruesome details of her demise, not a German source for sure and it said she was the last Russian so how could they know how she was killed? Reporting on factual history is one thing but creating what you thought the Germans would have done to her is another thing
