  • Top Gun fans getting ready for July 2021? We are! Check out the painting process for our latest F-14 Tomcat in our fleet- the "Rogue" F-14 Tomcat spotted on the deck of the USS Theodore Roosevelt in the leaked production photos for the Top Gun: Maverick movie. The model is a Freewing F-14 Tomcat twin 80mm edf jet available from Motionrc.com. This model has been upgraded from stock to FMS predator 2100kv motors and 100 amp castle creations ESCs. We borrow the process commonly called "marbling" in the plastic model industry to help turn foam into metal. All colors used are shown throughout the video. As always, we use Apple Barrel acrylics mixed to match the corresponding FS hues. Each color is then diluted by adding roughly 20% Createx reducer. So for example, if we mixed up 10 ounces of paint, we'd add 2 ounces of Createx reducer and then mix them together in a water bottle for 30 seconds. A mixture of old school paintbrush strokes and airbrushing using a paper plate as a template for the wing sweep weathering turned out pretty well. Yellow frog tape was used for all masking. Stick it to your shirt or pants 3-5 times to remove the tack and it wont remove any (or as much) paint when you peel it off. Try to remove the tape as soon as you can after applying it as well. Feel free to comment below for any questions or share links to your own paint jobs.

Really nice tutorial. Thanks. It turned out awesome. I have never been able to keep an airbrush from clogging up after a couple of times using it....
I can't wait for the movie. I figured they would bring the F-14 back for the fans. I haven't watched any trailers....

Thanks for watching. Try disassembling the airbrush and letting the parts and needle soak in paint thinner overnight. Good luck 👍

    So… beautiful…
What I think could be better (if possible) is to paint the pilots’ helmets to be Maverick and Rooster. You don’t have to if you don’t want to, but it’s just a thought. I love that livery for the F-14, looks phenomenal…

Nice work, so the "rogue nation's" national symbol is a Cardinal bird in a gold ring, interesting.

Nice job m8, great to see people making their Jets 'Their own' rather than stock color schemes
