  • Have you ever wondered how an eye doctor tests for amblyopia (lazy eye). One of the most popular tests to understand how your brain is processing visual information is called the worth four dot. It enables the eye doctor to clearly determine if the brain is suppressing the vision from one of your eyes. It also shows the eye doctor how deep the suppression is embedded, which is crucial for determining the appropriate treatment. Furthermore the worth four dot test can identify at what distance the patient is experiencing double vision.
In short, this simple test provides an eye doctor with information about how the brain processes the visual information it receives.
Dr. Heather McBryar FCOVD, from Amplify EyeCare Chattanooga discusses the worth four dot test. Wearing red green glasses the patient is asked to look at the colored dots on the flashlight. If a patient sees two red dots on a four dot flashlight, there is suppression in the left eye, three green dots indicate suppression in the right eye, and five dots indicate they are experiencing double vision.
Call our office at 423-710-3965 to schedule a functional eye exam for lazy eye treatment.
