- Alex has wanted this bike since he was a kid, and, after lots of searching online, he now has one. So, what’s the bike? For just £500 (around $640 / €585), he has managed to get his hands on a 2004 Trek Madone 5.9 in Discovery Channel team colours. Let’s check it out!
And yes, yes, for those of you getting shouty in the comments, he promises not to get rid of the paint job this time!

What is your dream bike? 😍🚲 Let us know in the comments below! 👇
It doesn't matter that much.. as long as it weighs less than 6 kg with pedals 🤣
Pretty much my first and current bike/love. My 2007 trek 1400, discovery edition. BasicalIy this bike, but its cheaper Aluminium shim 105 version.
I just keep it running and upgrade when something gets broken.
Cervelo R5-CX the bike that wout Van eart rides for cyclocross, sick bike Got to be honest
Looks emaculate a great find !!
S-Works Venge ViAS Disc 2017 - and I am too going to patiently wait until it is offered for $500...
I feel like GCN should do a presenter series of each person's dream bike. Love hearing the personal stories and experiences!
Oooo great idea! That could get very nerdy 🤓 What's your dream bike?
I have this bike. Ex Team. Was Jose Luis Rubieras training bike from 2005. Still has original Bontrager wheels, full Dura Ace group, Chris King headset and Rubieras name sticker on the top tube. Still in good condition and seems so light compared to my modern bikes.
It's a thing of beauty! Do you ride it regularly?
@@gcntech not really. Really only on dry days and not for a ride that's too long as its actually quite aggressive!
I still have mine. Original owner. I swapped out the rear derailleur and cassette because of the hills here but still have the original parts. It's permanently mounted on a wahoo kicker now. But when I retire, I'm going to replace it with my commuter Roubaix and clean it back up to it's full glory.
I loved my 1970 cinelli A full campy. Sold it in 1999 through lbs to a guy who restores… i am glad to think someone overhauled my beauty…it sure needed it
You can get so much for your $ by going used. Last December I got a mtb that was 1.5 years old and was $10,600 new for just over $5,000!
Crazy this bike is 7.6kg with Ultegra brakes, and super heavy wheels/tires for only 500 pounds. Far better than any bike you can get today in terms of ride quality, durability, simplicity and style. Best GCN tech video so far. Tired of all the aero crap.
Glad you enjoyed it! What would your dream bike be, or do you already have it?
I own my dream bike, 6.7kg 2013 supersix, nothing like the classics! @@gcntech
Good vid gang!
It is in great condition! They ride SO nice still.
Cycling wouldnt be as big as it is now if it wasnt for Lance and his 7 TDF wins.
Greg LeMond is the only American Tour de France winner
Whine whine 🥲
Lance was the tide that lifted all of cycling. If you know you know #carbthefuckup
@@simonknowles4267 SERIOUS FACTS
you made a great reaction video to it.. if you know, you know
Second-hand bikes can make you do an ABSOLUTE bargain, even sometimes people don't know what they're selling ! Let me tell you a story : a year ago, i wanted a new bike so i looked on ebay and leboncoin (french ebay) and i found a 2019 LOOK 785 HUEZ RSS with Lightweight wheels, dura ace di2, and with almost every components in carbon to a weight of only 5,5 kg. I fell in love with this bike but then i saw the price and i scratched my head. Only 2000 euros, this bike costs at least 10000 euros with all this setup. So i asked myself "maybe something's broken" so i asked the lady to see the bike and she told me that she knows nothing of the bike, it was her husband's bike who sadly passed away a year ago. I was kinda touched so i payed the bike an extra 1000 euros for a total of 3000 euros to help the lady. She was happy and now, we're actually friends! And as for the bike, nothing was broken, everything worked perfectly! Absolute bargain and a great encounter !
Wow, what an incredible story! That's the kind of thing that really makes bike ownership special! Thanks for sharing 🙌
You've also done something wonderful for the lady, as well as for yourself and humanity: She can now see what lives on of her husband's prized possession, and knows it's in good hands, will be used, cared for, and ridden to its maximum.
Please tell my wife when I'm dead, that she doesn't sell my bikes for what I said I bought them for ;-)
I’d have offered her €1000 😂
GCN needs a channel for regular dude and dudette bikes, like this. It's cool to see the black-market--priced-kidney bikes, but most of will never get a chance to ride current super bikes, let alone own one.
That’s literally my channel lol. Im all about bikes and parts that cost almost nothing compared to the “normal” cycling prices
GOBN: Global Old Bicycle Network. 😂
@@uknowbass I'd subscribe for that! Real world bikes for real world people to do real world jaunts on at a real world price.
@@stephensaines7100 i recently taught myself how to remove, clean, and relube my bottom bracket bearings. Instead of paying the LBS $150, I can do it for $5 in supplies and time
@@newoldsteel thanks for the heads up , followed 👌🏼 can’t beat steel
My favourite thing about older bikes is how easy they are to work on.
Good point! It can be a bit of a minefield with all the integrated components nowadays!
Yeah, but where's the spigot to squeeze the liquid latex into?
@@ThomasMcKeon-rw4sm yep but at that point the bike owes you nothing!
@@ThomasMcKeon-rw4sm fair point. If you have the time and skill you should just rebuild your old bike every couple years to keep it maintainable and at a high resell value.
@@ThomasMcKeon-rw4sm an Automotive Impact driver does a good job of getting them out! While the threads aren't always salvageable, there are ways of either recutting them, or alternatively there are pressfit style repair BBs that'll fit perfectly.
This is the best GCN video of all recent years! No corporate ass kissing and hidden marketing, really honest and real video. Kudos!
yep yep and yep, exactly this
Glad you enjoyed it!
I totally agree with you there. It really pi5535 me off when they constantly push products with no hint of disclosure that they are being paid to do so., especially when they are talking nonsense which is quite often.
Felix!!! I actually own and ride this bike. It is my dry tarmac summer machine, If you want to get rid of the Mavics let me know....I couldn't find spokes for them and had to switch out to T-3's. I now sorta forgive you for the sand job of that other frame. (You COULD take it to a sandblaster). Anyway yes please on the vids of your upgrades
Have a 550OCLV 9 speed Ultegra. Bought SH 20 years ago, raced for 4 years and now ny winter steed. Did the Paris Roubaix sportive 4 years ago and both of us survived it. Awesome bikes.
I have owned a couple of bike shops and I clearly remember selling one of these exact bikes, It was our most expensive bike in the shop at the time and it was purchased for a 13 year old kid by his mum for a birthday present.
Wow, what a lucky kid! I wonder if he still has it!
@@gcntech A few years later when he had out grown the bike he returned it to us to sell it on his behalf. We did and sold if for $2000 NZD. About 1000 pounds. By then Di2 was all the rage and the value had dropped out of high-end mechanical bikes.
@@user-tq3ud9zi7w don’t know if you’re misremembering the years but this bike is from the 1990’s, dura ace di2 wasn’t released until 2009 and became ubiquitous and trendy a few years after that
My bike has an equally shiny 2nd hand 10 speed Ultegra rear derailleur, from the same era as that Dura-ace mech, on it (replacing the Tiagra one that broke a while back). Crazy how neat and compact they look compared to modern derailleurs (it still shifts wonderfully too). I feel like, aesthetically, we’ve gone the wrong way on so many bike components
You may have a point there! What era of tech do you reckon we peaked at?
@@gcntech Early nineties.
@@stephensaines7100 Agreed. My 87 Peugeot's been updated with an early to mid 90s Campy Chorus gruppo and it is just *stunning* to look at and ride. Simple, compact, elegant.
That’s a lovely looking machine Alex. Once you’ve finished putting your touches on it would love to see all the comparison vids and just your experiences today on it. A century, training, climbing, sprinting etc all the best
My dream bike is a 2018 S-Works SL6 with a camouflage paint job, it's a beautiful piece of machinery and I've been wanting one since the first time I saw it.
My dream bike was/is a 2000 Litespeed Vortex - full 6/4 Ti construction, engraved BB shell, external headset and gently ovalized tubing, before they got into all that “geometrically enhanced tubing” malarkey. I found a gently used frame set on eBay in 2003 for $1100, less than 1/3 retail at the time. Nearly herniated myself lunging for the “Buy It Now” button. Kitted out in period-correct Chorus 10, it remains my “go-to” road bike to this day. I still sometimes have to stop and just admire it in all its bright brushed Ti glory 😊
Those Litespeed 3/2.5 and 6/4 frames brings me back to the late 90s.
In the 1990s this metal had so much optimism.
There was so much potential for Ti back then WTF went wrong with that magical metal???
I bought my dream bike in 1990. I still have it. Spectrum titanium custom.
Tom Kellog does amazing work. I always wanted one of his lugged steel frames. Nice bike!
Perfect - Thank Alex. I have a limited Edition 2006 Trek 1500 SLR (Alu) that looks just like this. Have upgraded lots, but interested in upgrading (sympathetically) to improve looks/performance. A lovely bike. Blendr Stem is a must!
My dream bike would have mudguards and pannier racks as well as a dynamo for the lights. I don't remember ever seeing one single bike review on GCN with either mudguards, a pannier rack or a dynamo on the bike.
I want a bike for training in all weather with a pack lunch and thermos, in a pannier bag.
My bike has to do day to day cycling as well as my club rides. So I'm the only rider in the club who cycles with mudguards.
Whilst I agree, I'm not sure GCN is the channel for that....despite the Jack Thurston series.
That sounds pretty perfect! No need to have anything carbon or fancy if that's not what you're wanting. An all weather bike for every kind of day is the complete package!
The 2003 5900 USPS is my pride and joy. I love it and ride it all the time. It was so wonderful to hear that you appreciate this great bicycle as well. Thanks for this!!! 🙏❤️🙏
You're welcome!
No matter how you plan to upgrade it, don't change the shifters and crankset! I think 7800 is the most beautiful and exquisite groupset by Shimano. It's such a pity that silver parts and colorful paint schemes became obsolete.
For now! Fashion goes in circles. We'll be seeing 80s neons sooner or later
I'm currently restoring a 90s Peugeot MTB.
The old silver crank was completely worn.
Finding a fitting crank in silver was a chore. managed to get a nice NOS Shimano crank from the 90s-
Love the 5.9! I have one, as well, and am still looking to bring a 6.9 into the stable. I collect my vintage bikes for the same reasons you mentioned. I'm 58, so my dream bikes are mostly from the 80s when I had posters of them on the wall of my room and brochures that I'd memorize, as well. Cheers for finding the bike you wanted - keep up the great work!
Thankyou Alex! Finally some content for us regular joes. Super happy you got your dream bike that has nostalgic value. I will definitely be following this series. I'd much rather have a top spec bike 10 years ago then a modern entry level road bike any day not just for the price difference but the fact that they were just better!
Glad you enjoyed it! What would your dream bike be?
@@gcntech I already have it. Look 795 Aerolight 2016. but i also want a dogma f:)
Big congratulations on your new machine 🥳👍, awesome indeed, hope that you will have a lot of enjoyment in the time to come! Stay safe and enjoy the ride 😊👍👋, very good vid as always, Cheers from Denmark 👋☺️..
Thanks very much!
Nice bike 👍👍. My dream bike I restored 2 years ago- my "big " bike for adults - brand Favorit ( Czech republic ) from 1979 in metallic blue color with white equipment and VDO odometer. It is the nice look in history ...
Hey Alex, I did the same, but with my favorite from this time: a Giant TCR ONCE from 2003.
But like your, the rear derailleur and crankset aren't the campa record's rather the chorus. But these original parts are bought but not mounted yet.
Wish you always nice riding with your Madone 🙂
Great video guys 👍 I’m a Trek collector and I have an 07’ Madone 5.2 Discovery 110 Oclv in pristine condition. My stable also includes 4 5200’s 01’ 02’ 04’ nude carbon and 04’ USPS Team edition .
Aquired a Ridley Fenix Classic 7005 Aluminium recently for 430 euros, Shimano 105. And last week was given a Cannondale Six 13, full 105. You can't beat old , newish bikes for value, performance and smiles per mile
Welcome to my world 😃 When it comes to value for money, old school bikes rule all the way. Unless you're riding at the sharp end of the elite bunch, you can still keep up on all your club rides without any issues, despite them having slightly fewer gears and less bling factor. The chances are, you're going to have a much more interactive & fun experience doing it as well 🤟Looking forward to watching your progress on the build, enjoy.
Congrats on being able to pick that beauty up. I have a 2000 US Postal 5200. Got the frame through the LBS for $600.00 as Trek was selling them off. Actually I bought 3 of them. One for me and the other two I built up for a couple of local junior racers. Mine got Ultegra, theirs got 105. I'm not made of money lol. Still shifts and rides fantastic.
Excellent bike , congrats on it👍
2014 giant propel advanced sl 0 first gen. I still remember seeing that bike in display window when I was a kid and it looked like a rocket ship to me. At the time aero bikes are not as many and the proportion of tubes, the black blue paintjob matching with white bartape and white arione saddle, and the way it looks is just like nothing else. It became my favorite bike of all time, I've seen many beautiful bikes later but nothing gave me the same chill as that giant propel
So Good! The brilliant GCN starts covering retro/classic /vintage bikes and build videos, combined with your glorious emotion and road tests. I'm super super excited about this! Well done guys ❤❤
Thanks so much David! What would be your dream bike?
@@gcntech .... My Bike collection has just reached an even 8, so all dream-bike dreams have been well and truly satisfied 😂🙏🙏... Although I do love the idea of the Partially faired Specialized electric concept bike they did back in 2015, the FUCI
Glad found one you like. Always like videos showing people they can enter the sport at budget level. I wonder if you could get a new clear coat applied to that to keep the paint protected for years to come. Look forward to more videos on it
Absolutely! It's amazing how many awesome second hand bikes you can find if you look hard enough.
My dream bike is one with a round bottom bracket and properly aligned dropouts.
This is real deal cycling at its best, thanks for showing off your favorite find, Alex, and have fun finding the components you want for it. 😀
It's Upgrade Time ⚒️
Love the tail fin and the Discovery Paint Job. Bontrager Triple X carbon stems and Triple X ultra-light carbon wheels and seatpost were on the tricked-out versions.
Dig it, love it, I'm more jeolous of this than anything else you guys have shown recently.
Looking forward to this project, Bertrand!
What a gorgeous bike,, super nice
That trek looks DOPE! 😮
I have the precursor to this (the 5200). I still love riding it and even when I buy a new bike I won't be getting rid of it.
I had the 2001 Discovery Team version of this 5.9 bike equiped dura ace and same wheels/tires and gearing. Loved it for several years and about 20,000miles.
I had the 2000 USPS version with 3x9 Ultegra. everything was original right down to the Cane Creek and revised stem except for right shifter wasn't a "flight deck" which was replaced with newer Tiagra. I kept it inside the house as a show case and rarely rode. USPS top version had Rolf Vector Pro [black] / Dura Ace, lower had Comp [red] /Ultegra wheels. newer Discovery version had Bontrager everything right down to the wheels but had the same two level but some market even had lower level with 105 and aluminum frame. at the same time I had a 2012 Synapse Hi-Mod with Red and comparing the two, USPS was slow and less response and took more effort to get it moving fast but those blue color was beautiful and I don't even like "blue". I do miss show casing it inside the house as it was a good conversation starter with guests.
Sweet bike!
I mean... it's not a 2008 Lemond Victoire, but it's still pretty nice.
When Halley (aka Durian Rider) told us about this video I come here in a flash. That's unbelievable to see this kind of comment at GCN, but if you know, you know - nothing can be compared with the reality and the truth. Congrats GCN TECH for this!
Thanks
Yes, Madone was tops in its day, obviously, and is to be enormously credited with introducing/perfecting the OCLV 110 carbon frame technology. Proudly I just landed one of the special edition Lance Anstrrong "500 made" of the 2004 Madone 5.9. Not cheap, but a fraction of the original sticker price. It too has had its crankset 'upgraded', but fortunately I've managed to amass the whole 7800 groupset in either mint, NOS, or NIB condition to restore it with. Unlike the stock Madone it came with Dura-Ace wheels which, of course, have the far superior Dura-Ace hubs with cup and cone bearings. Certainly those too are 7800 series, but if I wish to swap those out I'm sure it'll be fine with my 7900 series WH-7900-C24-TLs for which also I found new hubs. Mind you, the 7800 crankset is the most beautiful ever made, and the only for the period which is an anodized aluminum alloy. I'm going to put 172.5mm triple on it (FC-7803) along with the FD-7803 and the RD-7803-GS "long cage" derailleurs. The lure of going with the 7900 wheels is that I can use a CS-5700 11-28T cassette, raising my max gear inch to above 120. (The RD-7800-GS can track one more tooth than its OEM specs allow.) Then for the chainrings I can swap out the stock inner 30T for a 28T from White Industries R30 crankset. On 700 X 15 wheels and a 172.5mm crankarm length that'll pull my min gear inch down below 26, making for a straight up fully competitive ride. Too bad I'm not a straight up fully competitive rider.
Congrats!
Wow awesome bike 😊 I love second bikes such great value and great deals out there, it’s so rewarding to restore and re build it to 👍👍🚴🏻😃 it’ll be great to see what you do with it 😊 Pete

Go, Alex, go for it! Cannot wait for next parts...
you'll be amazed at how light a shift those exeternal routed cables are to shift. i picked up a 5600 105 trek for my trainer like that and was like wow zero effort to shift vs my previous 5800 11speed shifters
So true! I used Dura Ace 7800 a few years ago, best mechanical shifting ever...DA 7900 was much worse, DA 9000 came closer again (I used all these groupsets for years, 7900 and 9000 still in use) . The look of DA 7800 is still amazing!
@@ulrichr.487 7900 shifts very well & has a much lighter shift lever feel & action if you use Dura Ace 9000 polymor shift & brake cables.
I regularly ride a campy record 10 speed from 2003 and a Shimano 105 r7000 11 speed from 2018. The 105 groupset shifts incredibly well, faster, and is lighter. It is definitely an upgrade in every way over the campy record, which is really saying something since the record is the top of the line and the 105 is the budget set. The only part better about the old campy record is that the hoods are smaller and the shifters are carbon fiber which looks very nice. Also the 105 r7000 is so much better in terms of fine tuning the derailleurs and brakes, and being able to loosen the brakes quickly to remove the wheels unlike the record which you have to just yank the wheel past the brakes.
Edit: the campy record bike has externally routed cables everywhere except the handlebar, the Shimano 105 bike has internally routed handlebar and frame, the cables are external from the handlebar exit to the frame.
I have the 5900 and love it. Only worry about sometime needing a new BB. Rest feels either durable or easily replaceable.
A new BB? What is it?
He knows a tech host so he’ll be able to get it super-niced in the vault!😊
The deals you can find are amazing!!! Just need to be handy your self.
WOW ! what a deal. I just found a dream bike, not mine, but I bought it because it fit what I needed. Best guess is top of the line Raleigh 2002 +/- R700D road bike nearly stock. Was a one owner and in excellent shape. I researched prices on Bicycle Blue Book and offered him the top end of the scale... $275 ! Had to buy some new SPD pedals to fit my cleats but what a deal. I have a few hundred miles on it since bought and I would compare it to any new aluminum/carbon fork bike with Ultegra components for sale today(external cables, rim brakes). Sometimes you just find "the deal of a lifetime". This is one of those. Raleigh was a severely underrated manufacturer, at least in the US. This bike is cherry and a steal when new.
Definitely want more of this series. I’ve got the Cannondale series 2.8 in saeco red and yellow
Amazing bike. Love it.
That thing is sick. Good pick, Alex. I have always wanted an older Specialized Venge (2013).
I just picked up a 2015 S works venge with the raw carbon weave underneath a clearcoat Dura ace DI2. Roval CLX… If I told you the price you would fall over. The bike sat in a closet… Was always a dream bike of mine. They pop up on eBay from time to time.
I didn’t know what my dream bike was until I saw it 2nd - a Giant TCR in T-mobile team branded colours. I had watched them so many times in the Tour de France and as soon as I saw the bike available to buy on Facebook I fell in love with it. I know about what went on but sane comment as you, that’s not the bike’s fault. It’s distinctive with its hot pink and black colours but from the moment I test rode it, I knew it was special.
I have a Giant Team Once from 2004. Based on your bike with the same spec but different colours. Black and yellow. Still ride on it.

Notwithstanding who made it famous, very cool bike. I wish you smooth roads and tailwinds.
I've got my dream bike too. 1984 Colnago Super Saronni red 🤌🏻 with 2007 campa groupset and campa bora ultra 35.. Soooo beautiful ! There nothing else like riding your dream bike, whatever it is.
A steel 'Nago like that needs at least a pair of handbuilt Mavic Open rims.
@@ralphc1405 i guess you're right but that's not what i wanted for my dream bike. First, i find thé Mavic open kind of ugly..and I like the mix of old and new stuff.. those bora ultra on this old school red frame are just beautiful.

I have a ‘91 Trek 2300 Composite - it’s part carbon fiber, part aluminum - and I love it. Best part: I paid $250 for it. I have newer bikes, but the 2300 is probably my fastest bike. If you dig around, or just get lucky, as I did, you can find some real values in the used market.
Absolutely, if you look enough you can find some absolute steals!

I've always wanted a Masi Gran Criterium like the one Dave Stoller rode in Breaking Away. Never found one in my size but was able to get another dream bike I wanted when I first started cycling in the 80s and that was a 1982 Olmo Competition. It was pearl white with chrome fork, all Campy with Cinelli cockpit. She rode so smoothly.
This is a cool video. Looking forward to the next one.

Nice bike.😀 I have a Trek 1500 SLR (Alpha Aluminium) from 2006 with the same colour scheme - and it´s still in use. Only the frame and fork are original. It came with Shimano 105 (3x9), which I later upgraded to Ultegra 6800 (2x11). I miss the look af the silver crankset though, but not the 3x9.

Omg and you sanded off all the paint on the last one!
I remember the joke that Interbike when OCLV was introduced was that it stood for Out of Cash in Los Vegas. What wits we were.🤠
BTW, Lance's tour victories weren't taken from him. He through them away.
It took me 1 year to find the 2 bikes I was dreaming of at a decent price. I found them both within a month. A vintage pink and black marinoni in campi and a 90s GT bike. The gt is a total beauty. A '93 Tequesta in blue with all the original parts, fully equipped in shimano exage. Between the finding of both bikes, I snatched off mp a USA flag themed caad 5 in pristine conditions. It's such a beautiful ride even if the theme is kinda ironic since I live in Canada. I feel like i'm flying when I ride my caad 5.
I have a Trek Composite 2300 with upgrades haha not my dream bike but one of my bikes! Nice video, keep up with the project!
Sounds pretty good to us! Have you uploaded a photo of it to the GCN app?
My first bike accidentally was a 2003 Fondriest custom build for pretty much the same price and the same era. Alloy frame, raw carbon forks and rear triangle, 10-speed Campy (Chorus) groupset and even period-correct Italian wheels. However, the first service required some new parts like a chain (I think it isn't original Chorus), tires and especially the BB already pretty much ate up the initial price. It's not in pristine condition and it'll be an uphill battle to even restore it to perfect condition, or getting some parts (like new shifters) is pretty much throwing money on Ebay. I had to throw on a lower-spec Veloce cassette because 11-25 gearing was a pain on every climb. I'll keep it as a memory of the 2000s heydays and in riding condition as backup bike, but it's never going bad to mint condition, unfortunately.
Congrats, Anton! It is stunning. We hope it brings you endless joy.
I think it already does 😉

@@ralryou're missing the ongoing joke.
@@ralr We know! It's a joke. He's in it, too.
Bought a second hand MOOTS VAMOOTS circa 2006 and built up with modern 11sp ultegra, Chris’s king hubs and he’d rims - an absolute joy to ride! Something that was unobtainable previously and bought for a song and a dance
Sounds like a beauty! Have you uploaded a photo of it to the GCN app?
@@gcntech no I haven’t yet
Not too sure how I go about doing that?
I just bought a Cannondale SSE 3 himod team replica frameset as a n upgrade for my caad 12. Don't l worry, the caad will still be kept and loved😅
More of this kinda of content please!
With pleasure! Why not check out our documentary we made about Trek on GCN+ 👉 gcn.eu/Trek
I have a very similar US Postal version, brilliant bike. Only ever had Ultegra 9 speed (53/39 and 11/25, I changed the cassette). Only cost me about 400gbp
I am retired and ride recreationally for fitness and fun. Half a litetime ago I was a hard core road guy and my strength was time trials. I never had the equipment the other riders had but made up for it with conditioning and training. Always dreamed of a dedicated TT bike but couldnt swing it at the time.
Fast forward to spring 2022. I saw a used Trek TTX Equinox 9.9 (2008?) in metallic speed yellow color for sale. Has original wheels and has full Dura Ace component group. The paint and carbon fiber looked as if it was barely ridden , if at all. Got it for about $1,000 USD.
I eventually found what I was looking for wheel wise and added a like new Zipp solid disc rear wheel and a Zipp 404 front wheel. Again, barely used and total price on both was about $850.00 USD.
Of course Trek came out with the Speed Concept design around 2010 and that replaced the Equinox TTX design. I must say though this bike is a rocket on the flats. If I was only 30 years younger. LOL
A comparable Trek Speed Concept with full Dura Ace and Zipp disc and Zipp aero front wheel would set one back about $16,000 to $18,000 USD. Trek team riders rode the TTX from early 2000 to about 2010 as I mentioned when it was replaced by the Speed Concept.
Straight out of the durianrider rulebook. Great video!
My dream was and still is the 2019 Trek Madone SLR in the team Segafredo Red with disc brakes, though it looks pretty smart with rim brakes too.
Trek make some amazing looking bikes! We made aa film about Trek on GCN+ that you may find interesting! 👉 gcn.eu/Trek
Subscribed because of this. About time.
Thanks for the sub!
Probably around 2010, my weekend group was cruising around “horse country” in Northern Virginia when we came across a USPS Trek Madone very much like this Discovery. Sorta. Somebody had taken off the drops and Dur race shifter and replaced them with a short stem, flat bars and twist grip shifters. We stood around and shook our heads.
