I was in the Air Force for 20 years. And I became deaf four years into my first enlistment. I already knew I was going to get a disability for being deaf in one ear. However, I have vertigo and tinnitus very badly and the VA only gave me 10% for each and only 10% for being deaf in my one year. I am older now and my good ear is starting to go deaf. So, these are great tips for me to go back to the VA and re-file a claim. Thank you very much.

Hello there.. just saw an old benefits denial letter from a claim i filed the month that i ETS'd 8/2001 and it shows I was claim knee and back issues... I forget why it was denied, but most likely i didnt make the C&P appt is because the process was over a year at that time and I had already moved out of state.
OAN, I dont have my outpatient STRs only inpatient STRs because thats all national archives provided me... crazy part is VA is now saying I never complained about back pain in those days when clearly, I did. Maybe during those days they didnt have the, "you have up until 1 year to service connect injury rule"... I am still attempting to service connect with a nexus letter from a letter of intent filed 2/2023.... however, do you think that I can possibly win at the board of appeals to get the knees, back and dizziness back dated all the way to 8/2001? Your thoughts on that? My apologies on the length...

I was absolutely an Ignorant Igor. I thought you had to be blown up by IUDs or suffering debilitating PTSD to get any VA claims. I never knew what I was entitled to. It wasn't until a relative and fellow vet told me he went from 10 to 50 to 100% that I realized I wasn't getting what I deserved. I felt really dumb for not knowing and for not filing earlier. Question for you:
Back in 05’ when I got out everything was snail mail. No internet claims etc. I snail mailed a claim that got denied. I had no evidence. Only what was in my record. I had an injury on duty and went to medical and was off of work. Back then I got denied for that injury not service connected. My question is today with in service records available to the Va and seeing the injury on their end, if I were to submit that claim and it gets service connected now, would it back pay me to the original file date back in 05’?

Hi. I filled my last claim for 3 conditions. PTSD, OSA secondary to PTSD, and migraines secondary to PTSD. I won the PTSD claim and the OSA claim, but was denied my claim for migraines. The reason i was denied was because in my STR it was noted that i had taken Tylenol for a headache the night before going to MEPS. Would it still be possible to submit a new claim for migraines stating that this migraines are aggravated by my PTSD? Or, is it too late? I'm currently at 90%.

Prepare personal and buddy statements and any extra medical evidence you have (you had better have that evidence or filing for an increase is useless). Upload everything, then wait for them to contact you for the exam. Download the DBQs they will use on you for the exams so you can anticipate what they’ll ask you. You can even have your civilian doctors look at a DBQ and fill it out in your favor but I’d say that’s not necessary.
