- The Pan Asian T8 Hsienyang is pretty much a Benson, but whether it's worse or better can be argued. For solo play the PA smokes are amazing, yet for a division their short duration is cumbersome. The radar is more of a gimmick at this tier, as you don't really want to trade away the amazing smokes for 15s of radar. You can find my recommended build at the end as usual.
- Hry
I've giggled at "pretty slightly significantly faster" rudder shift, thank you!
I love how you excuse yourself everytime in a different way for the pronunciation of these ships
Hsien Yang is a Gleaves class DD. It is supposed to be the upgrade of the Benson class DDs in terms of survivability. It differs only on the positioning of the smoke stacks. This is to prevent the ships from sinking after taking a torpedo.
There is a reason why the Gleaves class until the 60s was lumped together with the Benson class in the Benson-Livermore class (initially, later it was called the Benson-Gleaves class). The practical differences would normally have resulted in a singular class, but because of some requests made by the shipyards the class was sort of split in terms of military requisition. It's terribly messy. No wonder it took until the 60s to decide upon making them truly separate.
Flamu, could you make a update video on the atago? New build, how it plays now etc. I thinking about buying that ship or the tirpitz. I am a dd player and I think the atago might suit me well and give me a lot of credits when I learn the way to play that ship, but your last commentary about that ship was one year ago. Would be awesome.
The Gleaves class destroyers, which I think this is was actually an upgrade to the Benson class.
I think your smoke math is a bit off there because of the time of action of each smoke. The Bensin Smoke lasts for 124 seconds and has a 28 second time of action, which means you can conceal someone for almost 2.5 minutes, but the Pan-Asian smokes have a 30 second time of action on top of the 70 second puff time, which means without Superintendent the Pan-Asian DD actually has more smoke time from first puff to last with 500 seconds to the Benson's 456 seconds. With Superintendent it's 600 seconds to 608, plus the Pan Asian DD has less downtime on its smokes which means it can keep a friendly Cruiser or maybe a BB smoked for basically the first 9-10 minutes of a game on its own. Yes that means it's basically glued to the friendly, but that's a lot of (hopefully) unmolested shooting time.
Smoking up cruisers and especially BBs is of limited use since the smoke mechanics update.
I'd agree with BBs under most cases but not cruisers.
Besides that though if you're taking issue with that you should be taking issue with Flamu's entire point since the comparison was in the team-play utility of the two ships, specifically their ability to provide smoke cover to allies.
The title is clever. I get it.
This ship is a gleaves class
That friendly Ognevoi is really triggering me.
Just follow his movement on the minimap. And he ended up third on my team. Blows my mind.
Watching him in the map i can almost hear running in the 90'.....the shittyfluted version.
i guess your team was shit so his 1 cap was enough...
It moved a very long distance, capped and sank at least a Kagero, which was trying to cap back A. So it also got cap defense points. Nonetheless, its was a Potato. No, a whole pile of Potatos.
"If" you could be arsed to comment on this guy again. Said comment would probably contain the word "questionable".
@Flamu how does it compare to the Lo Yang?
The tradeoff with DWT's is significant. From this video alone there were plenty of opportunities regular torps would have been great to use against another DD, but for this ship, that's not an option.
Flamu, please make a video comparing Fletcher vs Gearing. Thanks.
Tier for tier Fletcher is better.. Gearing does win 1 vs 1.. But slower rudder speed and bigger turn radius are definitely a downgrade
Fletcher is a better DD than Gearing. If WG bothers to fix the noob-friendly, randomly-shot-AP-round doing ridiculous amount of damage to DDs then Gearing will get near it in terms of power. In general, I consider Fletcher a Tier 9.5 ship. It's really powerful.
DUN WORRY DUDE IT IS PRONOUNCED SOMEWHAT CORRECT I AM PROUD REEEEEE >.
Lul
Again quite perfect pronunciation ;)
What? A balanced ship?! Wow, even WG does something right once in a while:D
SwedishFox A broken clock is still correct twice a day.
Flamu. Do you think competitive will count the Lo Yang as pan Asian now? if they count it as PA then do you think 3 lo yangs is going to be the go to? well, when competitive comes back anyway
I am somewhat disappointed that he didn't mention the Lo Yang at all, considering she is the direct T8 PADD competitor to the Hsienyang. Then again, since he considers the Hsienyang somewhat... worse than the Benson C hull, may be he didn't so as to not trash the Hsienyang even more.
So loyang any good ? anymore?
Flamu why didn't you compared this to Lo Yang like you did for Anshan?
"pretty slightly significant"
why you didn't compared it to the Lo Yang?
If it's basically the same ship as the Benson, most players know how the Lo Yang and Benson compare already.
next patch; marianas torps
1m spotting concealment
2m spotting concealment (with hydro) :D
I know this is off-topic but; What is better Lenningrad or Blys?
Considering that there's already a silver Lenin that's pretty much the same (save the torps), thinking on uniqueness of playstyle I'd go for the Blys. But if you want a cap trainer, get Lenin.
EF2000Typhoon7LWA Well in game the Lenidgrad is better.
If stealth fire was still implemented blys is a choice
I have already decided to purchase Leningrad, and boy do i not regret it.
And thank you all for your answers.
thats ok
tsrif
Ackchyually Flamu, this is a Gleaves-Class destroyer, not a Benson-Class :P
this ship has a torp upgrade from 8km to 9.2km unlike the one shown here
Nice team of potatoes.
As to 'confusion' over DWT, I think you're being FAR too kind to WG. It might help to point out that they have contradictory information on their server pages, with NA and EU still mentioning 'draft' being relevant, while Asia doesn't tell you anything about how they're 'special'.
If WG has made up its mind, it hasn't told the rest of us nor made the information consistent across servers.
The t7 dd is better in almost everything than a t8 dd... GG WG
why your voice volume got too low again?
The detection on these deep water torps is broken
Yep... Now WG don't have reason - why Japanese torps can be seen from the moon - when they were the stealthiest torps in WW2. Considering they made something even more broken, they better buff IJN torps - to be just slightly better than their counterparts (excluding Pan asian). Maybe 1.1-1.2km would fix them beating slightly Gearings 1.4km torps and other nations.
the torp detection has balanced dds but shame wg have had to make a new line to do this
Sam James I think you misunderstood me. .8km is too low.
I personally think that the deep water torps should go at least 12km
Not sure is WG using this to troll IJN DDs, to give CVs a chance by making some cruisers take hydro instead of defensive AA, or to make DDs more team orientated and screen for the fleet (which will never happen unless in ranked).
poi
15 sec rsfar and everyone shoots you. but they shoot another 20 sec after radar and know where you are even when changing your direction.
I wonder how long Wargaming will keep all the ROC Taiwan flags on these ships before having their game banned from China makes them switch it over?
Are you sure the WOWS Chinese client has ROC Taiwan flags? :)
A Benson that can’t torp other DDs ...
For me line stops at 7. Pretty underwhelming boats from then on.
5th!
I know you keep saying that you're only able to not hit DDs with the underwater torpedoes but Wargaming site says "So if you're facing other destroyers or shallow-draft cruisers, you may want to think twice before launching your deepwater torpedoes".
they were testing both, depth of the ships, and class
let's see for which one they decided (with the official next update (not test server))
So implementing a boom/no boom check against a two digit value(draft in meters or feet) is literally unworkable for the game engine? But ships can run aground... My suspension of disbelief is; hereby suspended.
team wont win is the full normal standart on EU!
Sad but true. After retraining my US-cruiser captain I tried to grind my Baltimore the last evening. All matches lost, often, because my team stayed away from the caps. So as soon as I got spotted 4-5 enemies would focus on me...
Where is that radar? One game my Ognivoi got screwed hard by a Sheinyang.
Torpedo Acceleration skill? Will faster torps combined with improved concealment produce a synergistic effect?
Reducing the range from 9.2km to 7.4 km is not that big a deal. Launching Benson torps at 9.2km does little as
the expanded spread and pedestrian speed produce few hits. Odds are the target will alter course/speed and/or the torps
will be plane-spotted long before they get there. So 60kt. torps going 7.4km with .8km detection may be worth trying.
Makes zero sense, because you can use STOCK torps, which are 8km and 61 knots, which I use myself... don't know why Flamu didn't even mention them... I think they are much better than upgraded ones...
Pronounced She-en-yen
Its ridiculous to compare this ship to the Benson or even say it in the same sentence with the Benson because the Benson is a DD killer this is not because it cannot use torps on DD'S. That is like a boxer trying to win a fight with one hand it happens sometimes if they're good enough but not alot.
some teams just cant be carried even by Flamu...
At least Benson can hit DD with torps, but the Hsienyang can't even do that. It feels like a downgrade considering you can't even have defensive AA.
Flamu, please use whatever influence you have with WG to make them correct the PA DD article worldofwarships.eu/en/news/common/hidden-dragon/ that still talks about shallow draft cruisers ... that's more helpful than you stating the actual mechanics in the vid.
TAIWAN NUMBA ONE
Seems like Flamu got one of my "teams" this game....
5 kill but not kraken
Feels like a downgrade from Gadjah Mada..
so summary, its sucks ass comppared to GM, and Benson...another example of WG not having a fuckn clue with PROGRESSION>
Flamu! 5 guns vs 4 guns. Hsienhyang has 25% LESS (guns) firepower (4guns +25% of 4 = 5 ) from the other side Benson has only 20% MORE (guns) fire power then Hsienhyang (5 guns - 20% of 5 = 4) Mathematics :) .
Ivan Buncic no and yes. If you would remove one gun from benson exactly like i said before You would lose 20% of fire power but if you would add one gun to Hsienhyang she woule recievied 25% more firepower. You always takes 100% of guns as a shil base and therefore this is not the same result.
the object after "Than" is always your reference point. so the benson has 25% more firepower than the Hsienhyang and the Hasienyang has 20% less firepower than the Benson. You compare Object B to Object A.
shame about the shitty radar/smoke dynamic. Basically a crappy Benson, not terribly exciting... Seems kind of lazy of wows to be honest.
