In a previous interview on clever tv she explains it. Daphne is deaf so it was necessary for her to speak with an accent to make her character more real --> the actress practiced to speak with an accent...

It's so interesting that pretty much all comments are about if she's deaf or not...Love the show!
I know, right? She did honestly have me fooled the first time, though...Daphne is deaf, yes...Katie herself has hearing loss and is fluent in ASL, which she uses to her advantage whev she got the part. But she has said that it took her 3 or 4 years to get that deaf accent down; she does have to have a device -- a mouth thingy in her mouth to assist with tongue control...but it's incredible how well she can speak deaf!

only one! there is 32 episodes for season 1 we are only on ep 22! (10- last year, 12 - winter-spring finale, 10- Fall now) they changed it sadly!

@cecipazs spring finale, they have 10 more episodes for season 1 i think, i guess they will play int he summer

isn't she like hard of hearing or something instead of deaf? Because I think I remember seeing bloopers where someone made a noise in the background and she turned around and then she was like "oh..I'm supposed to be dead."

Actually the actress has a condition where one day she can hear perfectly fine and other days she can't here anything at all.

Banandababa, she has meniere's disease. Some days she hears at 80% other days she hears nothing. It comes and goes but gets worse over time.
She has a disease that can leave her fully hearing one day to deaf the next and back again.
