You gotta check the dates these songs were released. This song was released 11 years before Rap God. People were so upset by his music back in the day they protested against him at the Grammys and they wanted MTV to stop playing his music. Hell, this song came out the year after 9/11 and the video has a bit with Osama bin Laden dancing in a cave and another one with him mocking the vice president's heart condition while electrocuting him.
Eminem's music is kinda like what Seinfeld is to TV shows. It influenced pop culture and the stuff that came after it so much that it's hard for people hearing it for the first time today to understand why it was such a big thing. There's people running around today unironically calling themselves stans and claiming to be a part of stan culture that don't know that 'Stan' is an Eminem song about an overly-obsessed fan whose obsession ruined his life and led him to do terrible things.

Don't listen to those who say you talk too much. CZcams is VERY strict about music. Pausing is necessary so you won't get a strike. Most people don't get that. You're doing a good job.
Yes, they tried to cancel him. Rap God came out way after the days of MTV.
    Also, Em is hilarious...lol.
Here's the story. He did the Marshall Mather's CD and the media was like, "where's slim shady/bring back slim shady". So this was his answer to that. Also, he was constantly judged for his more "uncomfortable" lyrics and that kids were buying the CD. So he pointed out that it's not his responsibility, it's the parents job to keep their kids away from explicit content.

100% agreed, YT and the labels never seemed to care about the Fair Use Doctrine. Talking over the song won't help, that algorithm is sneaky. Pausing and chatting is definitely the best way to TRY to avoid a claim. Once he clears more subs, it'll make more sense to have a Patreon and do live streams. I've been in live streams that get the plug pulled and go dead when the algorithm detects copyrighted songs.
I've seen people try a LOT of ways to trick it, from slowing a song down to like 98% speed to inserting an extra layer of "noise".

"Why would they let him say certain things that he said on Rap God" vs "cancel him on MTV" - Eminem was a cultural phenomenon during the late 90s/early 2000s. Eminem is still massive relatively, but even now he's like 5% of his peak force.

  • @KyleMillerRocks

"Who is he dissing". Literally EVERYONE who had anything to say about him LOL. I was in 7th grade when Eminem hit the scene with "My Name Is" and it was wildly vulgar and mainstream all over MTV. In the late 90s home TV and cable became more "affordable" for middle class so most of us had a small 10-13" TV/VCR combo in our bedrooms and could access MTV and our own media for the first time - not to mention this new technology called "the internet" which was creeping it's way into more and more homes. Watching this video 2 decades later (!!) makes me appreciate him even more because every gag and clip in the video references and makes fun of some pretty niche pop culture moments "you had to be there for".

" See the problem is I speak to suburban kids, Who otherwise would've never knew these words exist"
"Surely hip-hop was never a problem In Harlem, Only in Boston
After it bothered the fathers of daughters starting to blossom"
Culture was more conservative leaning back then and he was still able to reach a wider untapped audience in the white communities.

When this song came out... the laws about speech were a little bit different in terms of the FCC. They did try to cancel him on MTV but this song came from his 3rd professional album. At the MTV music awards he performed live "The real Slim Shady" (2nd album) where he took shots at female singers in the audience. Mainly Christina Aguilera. And rappers weren't necessarily doing that yet. He was the pioneer of the battle mentality in mainstream music. It was new to about 80% of the American audience. By the time rap god came out which was like, what 2014 or 15.. can't remember, but Em and a whole lot of others had been sparring with FCC guidelines in the name of free speech. Not quite as big of a victory as the one by 2LiveCrew but even from the 90's on, artists challenged the rules the whole way, erroding policies and stances the entire time. Today's FCC is regression. With the way woke ❄️'s cry about being offended, it's almost like everything the old artists did has been nullified.
Oh.. And I disagree about old Em being better than new Em. Old Em is greatness, but the evolution of his delivery, the expansion of his style, the diversity of cadence... he might just be the best wordsmith in a long line of poets... and then maybe the best mankind will ever see. Disagree? Who has more focus on the perfection of his/her rhyme schemes, and who in this day and age DOESN'T use ghost writers? Cause Em doesn't.

He could say whatever he wanted then AND now and still be sold en masse. Being “canceled” doesn’t have anything to do with being able to put stuff out. It wouldn’t get blocked by anyone.
Theoretically, if he were cancelled it would lead to people not buying it, but it doesn’t mean it couldn’t be put out.
That said, people have been trying to cancel him since he came out, though the concept wasn’t called that at the time. There were protests outside of his concerts and literal congressional committees trying. It didn’t work then and it wouldn’t work now. Being cancelled only works if you let it.

The bearded guy at 9:12 is Osama bin Laden in his cave lol. Also Chris Kirkpatrick was a member of N*Sync. I guess they had beef lol
Also the scenes in the reality show in the house is mocking The Real World (MTV show) & the scene with the people on the floating poop is mocking the show Survivor (which just came out around that time).
Lots of early 2000s references in this video :)
Also, Dick Cheney was the VP of the U.S. from 2000-2008.

Pause, rewind if you need to and discuss as often as you like. Helps to get videos up and shows the viewers you are trying to get the lyrics and word play. Also try to get uncensored versions, all words are there for a reason . His first release, Hi My Name Is blew up MTV. Suburban kids not only bought his music but dived into rap, both old and new at the time. Parents and influential politicians blamed Em exposing kids to the realities of urban life and Em's profanity and slurs.
Just like now he references pop culture of the time so this has tons of references from around 2000-2001.
Hope you enjoy his catalog. Many find it easiest to start at the beginning and go on from there to see his evolution, but if you skip around viewers will always help you out with background info in comments. There are a lot of STANs out there. FYI when you react to Stan get the long explicit version. It is a mini movie and you miss important lines due to censors.
Just subscribed and going to check out your content. Liking the few I have seen the last few days ❤️‍🔥

The thing with Eminem is that back then MTV wasn't as trashy as it is now. This was the time when the war of terror was starting, Columbine was still relatively isolated still, and Tipper Gore was trying to shut down a lot of free speech in media

Without me, is at the top of my list of Eminem songs just for the fact that it's got a great beat, his rhymes are sick and it's funny as hell. Imo, he's saying that rap wouldn't be the same without him and it's true. He was the first white rapper to have that level of success and it opened doors for a lot of other people.

The reason people wanted to "cancel" him was because even back then, you really shouldn't have been able to get away with saying or doing the things he'd say and/or do. Media was still pretty tightly controlled back then, the internet was around but hadn't blown up, censorship from the golden/silent/boomer generations to "protect morality" was still everywhere. This whole video is actually answering the very question you're asking. The kid in the video is trying to buy a CD with explicit lyrics, which parents were much more concerned about back then.

The “master looking lady” from avengers wasn’t even around back then. He was trying to mimic Moby, a popular singer who he frequently dissed😅 Eminem can’t get cancelled, I love watching them try though😅 my generation had Em the greatest wordsmith and rap genius who actually helped people deal with real problems through his art and this generation has cancel culture and political correctness ending peoples life for one wrong word. Feeling sorry for the kids who think different and have to grow up in this madness.

I probably just now realized where this new world is heading. As far as i'm concerned - you should be totally fine saying literally whatever the fuck you want, however the fuck you wanna say it. Period. And i'm genuinely ready to fight to the death to defend myself, if anyone would ever try to silence me for whatever reason.
Anyway, enough of the negative stuff... keep up the work and have a nice day! :)
