My favorite Eminem song. It is the most real thing. So true that when you become famous, media and just people in general create whatever they think you are. I love Eminem. He just continues to be who he is. And, he has a tight-ass rap, man.

He's definitely the god of rap in terms of reach. In terms of lyrics, flow, and quality from someone you'll probably never heard of though he can't touch Tonedeff.
I think it was back in 2000 when I first heard this one. I was 8. This, and "The Real Slim Shady" played all the time on the rap station I listened to. This one always made me feel weird. I often head it when I was falling asleep because the stereo would be on all night. The bells in it were both relaxing, and creepy at the same time. I've always had a fear of the dark, and it was really bad back then. So, to be in a dark room at night, alone, and hearing those bells that sound like they belong in a horror movie... It should have really freaked me out, but it didn't. It actually filled me with the strength I needed to overcome my fear each night. Eminem's music has always done that for me. It's inspiring, in a way I can't explain. It just makes me not care. About what others think of me. About fears, both rational, and irrational.
Superman, which is from the album The Eminem Show, is a very good song, one that shows how fame made him question whether females were interested in him for who he is, or if they just want him for the fame and the money.

I was 19 when this song/album came out.. and it came out around the same time my brother died. That's what I remember.. and I played this album a lot!
I first heard it in my car. I’m the same age as Em. I took the cd off my brother and I played it back to back for 3 months straight.
I still remember waiting in line at music warehouse for 2 hours to get this album at 14 years old!...
Got to respect someone who doesnt curse in 2024. I honestly believe curse words are like a addiction. I remember trying to say "damn" without sounding awkward at 13 and i use it so often now. Amazing that you have the vocabulary for that. Cheers
The chorus comes from Rakim of the Paid in full album from 87. That blew my mind The first time figuring it out makes you realize there are old school Hip hop references from the 80s that are so deep cut in Early Em's music, but yes Eminem internalized why he is dope and real, in his struggles, and being himself, as messed up his life was going. which Rakim was saying all the way back then he was dope and real lyrically, and damn we see why Rakim fucks with Eminem.
Something I haven't seen mentioned so far is that Marilyn Manson and Eminem are (or at least were..) pretty good friends.
I don't keep up with modern news so maybe that changed but they've played together a few times and the like. Interesting pairing
Not his real daughter or Kim. He’d never put their faces out there for people to see. And no way Kim would ever agree to be in one of his videos. This was before his song Kim (which you should react to next) but they fought hard over his career and the way he portrayed her.
You should also react to mocking bird. That one is so fucking real. It’ll make you cry.
EDITING TO ADD: I’m kind of wrong on the first part of my comment. Mocking bird does have some old home videos with Kim and Hailie and his adopted daughter/niece.

The first time I heard this song was when I bought the CD about a week after it was released and I was probably in my boyfriend's car at the time. But I could've been at home. this was always one of my favorite albums of his. So it will always hold a special place in my heart.

As people said below, there was a stretch of time that the media and even government were blaming music and video games for school violence. More important to Eminem, though, are the lines AFTER the "Blame it on Marilyn" line. "Middle America, NOW its a tragedy, NOW its so sad to see." Gun violence was plaguing the black community for a long time before Columbine, but it only became an issue when it happened to "White America" (Another song for IAmKing to check out, which digs deeper into Eminems views on white/black culture).
