- Here is the video that touches briefly on the legend of the Iron Door of the Wichitas. We talk about the James-Younger gang, Silas Ison, Joe Hunter, the Brass Bucket, and more Wichita Mountain history. Most pictures and information came from Steve Wilson’s Oklahoma Treasure Tale book. For more details, check out his book. It’s a GREAT read!
Thanks for the history lesson. I really enjoyed it. The creative film-style with your boys adds much to the story telling.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it.
Yeeees🙌🙌🙌 I woke up this morning wondering about the history😉😉 thanks Steven🙌🙌
Amazing video. Thanks for sharing. Cheers from the top of the mountain.
My grandfather told me a story about him finding a cave with an iron door but not in that area. This was north of Wister Oklahoma. He told me the area he saw the door but I never went looking. That was about 40 years ago. If interested I would be happy to pass the story on to whoever is interested.
The treasure is scattered frome Texas to Oklahoma
There's a story of a young boy frome Oklahoma with a treasure chest and a wagon
I am interested, please share
🤔 That town name is familiar. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Would love to hear the tale. Jesse and Frank were not too distant cousins of mine (4th iirc), and I'm near enough to the area I just might take up the hunt.
Well done; thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching!
Well done and the youngsters do a great job. Through my teenage years in the early to mid 1970s me and a friend roamed all over the Witchitas. Not looking for the Iron Door, but not forgetting that it might come into view.
Thank you. I’m the same. I’ve always kept my eyes open for it :)
This is great. I love Charon’s Gardens - one of my very favorite places.
Dude, words cannot express how cool this is. Sad I am just now getting to it. Great stuff and I will watch this again myself!
Thx brother!
I know where the iron door is, but not gonna alone for it. It's in eagle mountain. When you take the trail. It's makes you go one direction but it's where the dead end is. That's why no one has ever found it. Don't go left. Go right. People think it's just a dead end so they never hike in that direction the creek makes you only go left.
🎯💖
great video!! I spend a lot of time at the WMWR and really enjoy it's history and beauty!
SWEET! I wanted to include a note about this folklore in my video but don't really know the details. I subscribed to your channel. Awesome!
Have at it man. Whatever you want to use or share, feel free!
The blizzard story should be easy to verify. How many blizzards have actually hit southwestern Oklahoma? Was there one that year?
Dude...great video man! Very informative!
Thx brother.
Well done.
You do know that Jesse James' sister and her husband lived on a section about 6 miles south of Wichita Falls, Tx. Her last name was Parmer and Jesse visited her several times.
Aw, geez. And here I am out by where their uncle Drury was. I forgot about Susan! How dumb of me. I am trying to locate family. Out doing a whole search to get things done. It's a real pain. I have been to three states so far and I am still missing people. If my great grandpappy way back hadn't had 21 kids, I don't think I would have had to go through this much of the crazy. 🤷♀️
Your videos got me wanting to come out and see the Wichita mountains! Are there lots of good places for car camping?
Good one!
Thank you, Seth!
I’ll come down from Stillwater and search it with you!
Good story boys!
Thx Joe!
I'm really enjoying your videos. Are you aware of a good map with all these sites on it?
I have several maps on my facebook page - "Great Plains History & Hiking"
Jessie was not murdered, he murdered another guy for the purpose of faking his death. So Jessie got any gold he hid.
Very possible man. Lots of rumors abound about his “murder.”
You are not gonna believe this. But I am one of those little boys from 1996 in indiahoma
I can 1000 percent prove that I am.I lived on nw indiahoma rd about 2 miles outside of the refuge. It was north of the old sunset swimming hole which I think was maybe a quarry or something. In the 60s my mom said everyone used to go swim there. So we went. We got in trouble for going in the special use area. Wildlife officers and Kennedy stradley came and gave us the “talk” about being more responsible and what not. We told them what we’d found. They took off with the story. We were 8-13 years old. Never even heard of the iron door. We thought we’d found an old mine with a make shift door that was deteriorating badly. Anyone that’s been around the way for a long time back in the 60-70s knows about the old sunset swimming hole. I believe it’s actually not on refuge property anymore. But the door is
@@DaltonGang10pAre you kidding me right now. Is your real name Dalton? I have questions, and not ones you would expect. I know the Dalton family well enough to know you would probably have my answers. My family has been around them for around 7 generations, as far as I have tracked. Wouldn't that be something now... You see, my last name is Overton. 🙂
Thanks for the subscribe. I really enjoy y'alls content. Where are you based? I'm looking to make more local (TX) connections for meetups on future backpacking/camping trips, and hoping to do a TX backpackers/CZcamsr's meetup next year.
I live in OKC. That’s a pretty cool idea, I’d be down for that!
@@GoWildHistory i might have to do one in north and central TX. I know we have a lot of backpacker friends just outside of TX. I'm in Austin. If y'all are ever near by, hit me up.
We gotta get out there and do some hunting?
I've heard of it being in n central Arkansas
🤔 Now that's interesting. I heard about northern Arkansas. 🤷♀️
I know wear it's at
Elders,say.
Great Story... Is it true that the Civilian Conservation Corps were responsible for much of the development in the wildlife refuge???
Joe hunter killed the boy for his map because he refused to give it up so him and his father killed the boy, he came apon a camp after running frome the law with his best friend , they separated and the young man came across the camp when he was welcomed in with a not so nice Manor and threw to the ground, he tried to escape but he was captured before leaving the camp sight and stabbed by a kid around 10, after he was stabbed he tried to run then ended up back in the tent, as the young man fell the the ground, Joe hunters father said something to him while he was slowly dieing, I can't remember what he said but he was drunk for sure
Jesse James and the 18 mules of gold were dropped in a bend in Cache creek south of Apace OK. not a cave. the place was found but no gold. James nailed some mule shoes to a tree and then emptied his gun out in the tree as a marker.
Was this the bucket map thing? I'm trying to cover stuff, but it's very confusing. So much going on in Indian Territory/Oklahoma at the time with my family and it's a real hot mess. 😅
Honestly? What is the truth really behind it and how long ago was it seen last? How do people make stories up like this? I honestly want to believe it's behind a rock that hides it.
You can't make this up. The amount of stuff going on in the area from 1860-1950 is just dad gum unreal. Formin up a posse was a real thing. Yes, the Wild West was happening, but the James family was not stopped from travel by that. Trust and believe. They were all over the place. Still are. 😉
This video isn't bad but I have to note that you are just ripping off another channel with a dad and his boys exploring Oklahoma called the Puberton Boys.
