  • Shane uses basic hand tools to rework a Black Hunter longbow's tips. Some more specific power tools were used for fitting the limbs to show other ways to rework parts of the bow that have already been shown in our BH series. DISCLAIMER: Taking any material off of a bow does make it weaker. DO NOT remove significant material to the point of compromising the bow.

    Wow I watched this whole video before I realized this was Great Plains bow company. I have a Fleetwood Timber ridge longbow that I’m going to send you at the end of this coming hunting season to be reworked.

    I bought a black hunter as a way to get into traditional archery. As a disabled veteran, unfortunately funds are very limited. I am able to pretty consistently to maintain very respectable groups with the black hunter. I really love Great Plains beautifully crafted bows, they are works of art. I am currently saving to purchase a bow from Great Plains.

    Great job man, what a cool idea. If I was back in college 25 years ago and this info / cheap bow was available, I’d of done this in a heartbeat!
    PS- my DeWalt random orbit sander free-spins. Might as well have a power planer in your hand when she spools up at crazy RPM!

    Man you are a soild badass at making bows and I love your videos. I do worry for you not wearing a respirator when sanding all that glass. Not to be a Karen about it, but I was always told that glass gets in your lungs and stays there, I could be wrong. Anyway keep up the good work, thanks for the knowledge.

    Problem with buying a Black Hunter recurve is now there are two versions made by different companies. The original, also sold as "Mandarin Duck", was made by Junxing and called the F171, the longbow version is the F172. The recurve is 60", black Gordon glass and bamboo core limbs, with pointy phenolic limb tips (the very early ones had a maple core with smaller limb bolts).
    This bow was so popular another chinese manufacturer(TopArchery) copied the design and made their own even cheaper version of the recurve. It's 58", maple core, unknown glass type and different rounder limb tips. They also put the branding disc in the riser and sometimes use 2 limb locator pins for each limb, Junxing have never done either of those things.

    • @greatplainsbow
      @greatplainsbow  Před rokem +1

      We probably won't do that with this bow since the owner did not ask for stippling. However, I'm sure we could make a video of that in the future.

    Hi Shane, Have a 3 pieces take down long bow and when it is strung up, I could see there is a slight gap where the riser and limb meet. Probably 1/2mm. None of my other take down has that. It doesnt make noise or anything. Should it be a concern? If so, what would you recommend to correct that? Thank you for making these videos.
