Wow! I know these are old comments, but there's a lot of negativity here. The tool he is using is actually VERY capable of moving live trees!! I guess this one was dead so he wasn't too concerned with getting a rootball. One thing I would recommend if you want to move a live tree is to dig around the tree with a shovel and get about two spades deep, cutting roots along the way. Then with the tool on the skidder, dig a ramp down so that you can get under the rootball. Drive down the ramp and stab the tool under the rootball. Hopefully the rootball and tree will "break loose" and you can move it wherever you want. (Don't forget to dig a hole to put the tree into first!)

Apparently most of you didn't listen to what he said. The tree is already dead, he's getting rid of it.

You could do this, or you could just chain it to your neighbor's dump truck before he leaves for work in the morning...

I have been moving large trees for 18 years. There is no way on earth this thing would move a tree bigger than a 3-4 inch diameter trunk and have it live. I have not moved a palm tree per se but I have moved most other trees. If you break the root ball up like that you can kiss that tree goodbye This is a joke of a machine, especially if there were any rocks at all.

He said the tree did not make it through the winter. He is just removing it, not trying to transplant it.

So then just use a front end loader and chain and rip it out of the ground and save the lawn. Palm trees dont have a very big root system. That skid steer tears lawns apart like crazy. Totally impractical.

+Wasting Time and then do you need to buy this to get rid of a tree?

A shovel would be faster and cheaper plus you wouldn’t destroy your lawn with tractor tire ruts.

why not just use a hydraulic 4 blade spade. it would not tear up the grass at all and would be able to save the tree. plus it would take half the time. I would use something like that "U" blade for digging the holes for the B&B's but not for transplanting.

you could have just ran the tree over to do the same thing. and it would have been faster!

What a joke! I could hand dig that cabbage palm faster than that. And not make a big mess.

Guess you've never heard of a dynadigger or a pony shovel. Sorry dude but I can't see much use for that. A lot of nurseries in Florida use trenchers to dig palms. Takes about five minutes. Better head on back to the drawing board good buddy.
