Technically this is Eurodance. Techno is a genre originating in the '80s that sounds totally different. I s'pose it all sounds the same to people that aren't into electronic music though, bloody philistines ;)
8 years later........... how did the tree do after being pulled out of the ground and dropped back in the same hole for demonstration purposes? hows it doing now?
What a great piece of kit! And good choice in music - it makes a pleasant change from the usual country music that accompanies videos demonstrating agricultural equipment.
Apparently an excellent solution, but to be sure of its sustainability we should ask ourselves: 1- What is the cost of this operation? 2- Where are these machines located? It is clear that if they were to be moved covering hundreds/thousands of km, the ecological balance of the operation could be deficient. 3- What percentage chances are there that the tree placed in a new home will survive? From what we have seen, we have the clear feeling that a large part of the root system can be cut, significantly reducing the life of the tree. In short, I have many doubts about this operation. I believe that the best solution to avoid cutting trees is to conceive projects that take into account their presence and their need for space and light. A happy coexistence is possible. You just have to want it 🙂
What they leave out is the prep. They have to dig a hole to receive the tree. Presumably they use the dirt from the receiving hole to put in the hole made by the removed tree. But where does it sit in the meantime? On its own? In some kind of holding shell? In a pile? Btw, twerps, the music is fine, just turn down the volume.
TheIdunnoblud So what? They say they are "testing" two machines. They do not show the receiving hole being made. This is a major omission, since they seem to be evading the fact that TWO of these monsters, requiring a big investment, are necessary. Perhaps only one is required, but in any case they should show the COMPLETE process.
Really? You're just being unnecessarily pedantic. The intro says "Pre-shipment testing of two 100" spades for Chase Farms" so they're both going to the same client, nothing is being evaded. Well, either way, they clearly used two of them. The one used to remove the tree was brand new, it had no dirt on the spades so it couldn't have been the same one that made another "receiving hole".
It should survive because all you are doing is cutting just a few roots that it can grow back. I you plant I back in good ground, it'll keep growing more roots and it'll never die
Jonathan Delgado with our 80 inch spade we've picked up trees with 8 inches on diameter or so. So a 100 inch spade could probably go for a 10 inch tree but that's a lot of roots to cut on a big tree so a bit risky
It totally cuts their roots, it must be painful. Good thing that they can be moved, and we no longer have to cut them because they grew on a wrong place.
girlmastergeneral lol good luck, the root ball weighs 10,000 pound and the tree itself is around 2000 give or take. Plus the root ball fit flush in the hole. It's hard to tip them lol

While that's possible, we much prefer our equipment be used to plant new trees instead of stealing existing ones. Dutchman Industries does not condone tree theft.
@@DutchmanIndustries Haha, still, even if it would be official - it would be that "What the hell is going on here?" moment. Or imagine that your neighbour orders this, you are away for several days and when you return home, there is small forest besides you :) But seriously, I´m really impressed how clean and effective the whole machine is! Why destroying the tree when you can "snag it" and plant elsewhere? I approve!
Basta volerlo 🙂
Usually you dig at the desired location first, set that dirt (called a plug) aside and then dig up the tree and place it in the waiting hole. The plug can then be removed or used to fill in the original hole by other means.
I wonder about the tree's life after the transplantation. It doesn't have its roots anymore and without them, how can they resist a strong storm? Maybe it needs some mechanical system that hold the tree for a while until their roots became strong again. Anyway, I understand that the purpose of this video is just show the machine.
The undisturbed soil around the tree seems to be held tightly together. The depth looks to be substantial and the amount of soil @ with a width of 100” wide going back into the same size hole perfectly wouldn’t really need anything more. The mass of the soil around the roots will hold it in place just fine. The root system of the trees around me don’t go nearly as deep as that machine just dug up.
+mrpearl1 we have a similar unit and it actually works quite well in clay. The truck has water jets that help lubricate the blades as they go into the ground. They'll go but not as quick as seen here.
The only caveat is that i am not sure it would work that smoothly on very rocky terrain, they chose the easiest soil to demonstrate this, the soil looks like it has been already raked prior to that...
Dutchman tree spades are all built with ultra-strong cold formed blades and use high pressure hydraulics. Even in rocky soil, the blades will go through, although it may take a bit longer in those conditions. You can see a video of a different spade digging in much tougher conditions here: czcams.com/video/kJGJq0NF6C0/video.html
Actually mike that spade is over sized for that size of tree. I would give that tree 99% chance of survival. The roots that you are talking about are anchor roots and all they do is hold the tree up. I speak from experience of moving large trees for 18+ years. And yes I move trees much bigger than this all the time. Looking at this machine I would have to say it is not built very strong however, this spade would not last as long as some others I have operated.

That tree must of been like, "What the F--- just happened?!"
Does the truck play the techno music while it transplants the tree?
giggle snort!
Thats a good question it must have huge ass speakers
I hate that shit!
Technically this is Eurodance. Techno is a genre originating in the '80s that sounds totally different. I s'pose it all sounds the same to people that aren't into electronic music though, bloody philistines ;)
This video isn't actually dubbed w/ music, that was just blaring from the truck's cab the whole time.
If I had this I might start stealing trees as a prank
HAHA. I was thinking the exact same thing!
😂...and then plant them on someone’s front lawn who hates trees. Making sure they’re gone for the weekend.
8 years later........... how did the tree do after being pulled out of the ground and dropped back in the same hole for demonstration purposes? hows it doing now?
Have you seen Charlie Brown's Christmas?
Everyone's complaining about the music
And I'm just sitting here thinking
"So, when's this becoming a weapon in a movie?"
That's a really awesome machine.
Outstanding kit.....you guys make me proud!
Thanks for this video. My four year old has a Matchbox truck like this and we'd been looking for a video to show how they do it.
What a great piece of kit! And good choice in music - it makes a pleasant change from the usual country music that accompanies videos demonstrating agricultural equipment.
Is the music coming from that truck?

Lol
I need one of these in my life!
Buy it then
Wow... Like a Tony Stark, Iron Man TechnoLogy!
I bookmarked this for the music but I like the truck as well.

Sorry I'm 6 years too late
Pretty Cool !!
WOW!!! Great!!!!
how many trees do you think you can unroot and wrap in burlap per hour?
Do those spades get a fresh coat of paint after every job?
SWEET!!
If you plan to move a tree. Do you dig a hole with this big machine before you pull the tree out of the ground?
Yes
What they leave out is the prep. They have to dig a hole to receive the tree. Presumably they use the dirt from the receiving hole to put in the hole made by the removed tree. But where does it sit in the meantime? On its own? In some kind of holding shell? In a pile?

you do realise they're using two of those tree spades... you can see them at the beginning of the video

badass
How good of a chance to this tree have to survive? I honestly need to know because I’m planting some bigger trees. They’re half the size though.
It should survive because all you are doing is cutting just a few roots that it can grow back. I you plant I back in good ground, it'll keep growing more roots and it'll never die
Amazing
super
AMAZING!! but upstate New York has rocky ground...can it work then?
Apparently, Ruud. New York does have trees, you know.
Which would be the maximum diameter of a tree in order this truck could transplant it?
Jonathan Delgado with our 80 inch spade we've picked up trees with 8 inches on diameter or so. So a 100 inch spade could probably go for a 10 inch tree but that's a lot of roots to cut on a big tree so a bit risky

Fuckin HYPED TO SEE SOME TREES GET REPLANTED
Good Idea.
It totally cuts their roots, it must be painful.
Good thing that they can be moved, and we no longer have to cut them because they grew on a wrong place.
Painful? You do realize that the tree lacks a central nervous system to feel that, right?
trees don't feel pain
woooooowwwww
Awesome Music! Who is it?
This is Estrella by Soundluxe.
Later that day, a strong gust of wind came... Now that tree is firewood.
if you plant trees, God bless you
Very good
Wow
I wonder how much a truck with this machinery must cost?
And then a strong breeze comes and blows it over since the roots were cut clean through.
If you gotta move a tree, you gotta move a tree, no?
girlmastergeneral it's called guy wire and stakes but I guess now you know that
girlmastergeneral lol good luck, the root ball weighs 10,000 pound and the tree itself is around 2000 give or take. Plus the root ball fit flush in the hole. It's hard to tip them lol

Look...a pool!
What the video wants to tell is don't forget to play the music while moving the trees
The music makes this almost unwatchable
Click the volume icon and play some kazoo instead.
Allows remember to dig the hole first,,,,and second hole too,,,,,in cause someone starts complaining where u place it.
I'm glad for the club trance as opposed to most corporate garbage. But hey - just proves you literally can't please all the people all the time. lol
So you need two trucks or you dig the hole where you want the tree to go and then go pick up the tree and take it back
Usually you dig at the desired location first, set that dirt (called a plug) aside and then dig up the tree and place it in the waiting hole. The plug can then be removed or used to fill in the original hole by other means.
