- Yokohama Design College or YDC is a visual and art design vocational school located in the heart of Yokohama. Since it is primarily a Japanese vocational school, there are Japanese high school and vocational school students studying in the same building as Japanese language students! This is a great opportunity for students to interact with Japanese students and improve their Japanese.
We interviewed one of YDC's design students to find out what it's like to study in the specialised manga course!
Please turn on CC for translations.

One day, I will be doing this course, because I wanna be a famous mangaka, for while I can't because I am 15 old, but I will never give up to make my dream be real, wait for me Go Go Nihon, as soon I will be there... Soon
Same bro but I'm 16
But hows your japanese and art studies been going bro?
For me I'm around n5 and my art I'm not really sure cant judge bymyself
Good luck!! You can do it!

Sorry but manga degree is probably the most useless degree you could ever get. Id rather suggest to focus on other degree first then apply for a manga degree
No, what’s really useless is doing things that you don’t love just because it’s “safe and useful” and then quitting because you don’t enjoy it.
I'm 14 and I have the same dream
Just like the guy who is interviewed, I really wanted to be a manga artist. Love and support from the Philippines 😊😊
rohan from hjo licked a spider this time you deepthroat one 😊😊😊😊
I tried too, but senmongakkou are too expensive, i mean a minimum of 12000€ (twelve thousands €) each years. And also at least N2 is required and i've been in a lot of openday in Tokyo's manga senmongakkou. That's something that you should know too, i guess. :)
Thank you for sharing!! I’m currently at a technical college and I have a few years left but I’m really looking into studying abroad as costs are either very similar to the US and or much more affordable. I am currently taking graphic design and animation so I’ve been looking into art in Japan! This would totally be a dream come true for me 🥰
You can do it!

I want to be a mangaka too, I'm sixteen years old and my parents never let me. That's why I want to go to Japan after university and attend a two-year manga course and I'm working on it now. I'm making an effort. I also have a talent in anime drawing, so I'm talented in painting in general and I want to improve it. My financial situation is bad, there is no family support, I will have to wait a couple of years, but I will go anyway. I will never give up and I will always chase after my dream goal. Thank You. just wanted to write...
We'll be rooting for you!

Hey, I just wanna thank you guys for something. I am reaching my last few months of high school and had decided that I wanted too go to Japan and improve my drawing skills and maybe start producing my own manga. But recently I have been having doubts if I had decided to late and the fact I had no idea were to start and you have helped me with both and I will be definitely checking your website.
If you do read this, I do have a question for you. When do you think is too late to start? Like I'm 17 and in my last year of high school but Is it too late to start?
Hello! It's never too late to start your Japanese studies! 😊
Please feel free to contact our coordinators if you have any questions: gogonihon.com/#ContactForm
We hope to hear from you soon! ☺️
I'm 15 hoping to go to this college but I'm a bit confused because i did some research and to go to the manga course you need to enter the college preparatory course to learn Japanese (if you don't know it like me) if you study for 1 year its 6,300 dollars 1.5 years 9,000 dollars and 2 years 11,800 dollars i would like to take the 2 years
Beginner 6-9 months
intermediate 6-9 months
Advance 6-9 months
so we would be there for around 27 months (2 years and 3 months) i we entered when we were 18 we would be like 20-21 years old after we finish if we payed for dormitories we would have payed like 400 dollars per month (400 x 12=4,800) including the utility, plus extra 300$ for entrance fee and 160$ for deposit we add like another 100 dollars for futon, tableware and cooking utensils it brings us to a total of 17,160 which is cheaper than most colleges in the U.S.A after we are done with that would it be the same once we enter the course we wish? i want to go into the manga course so dormitories would be the same price but how much would it be for the manga course? i keep on mixing the College preparatory course with the actual manga course so if someone could explain the fees and how long it would take id appreciate it because i think i made things far to complicated for me 🥲

Why have you guys been Quiet as of late? I applied for a school and I haven't heard back in a long time.
They're probably busy dealing with April semester students that can't get into Japan right now.
@@whoareyou3185 Yea their lack/slow communication is the worst part. I was able to get every document in within 2 months. They do save u a lot of headache/time with other processes though.
We are sorry to hear that you've been waiting for so long! Is there any requirement for this manga class cause like i want to register it
I want to follow this class/university where do i register?
Sei ancora qui in Giappone?
@@cianonelpaesedeimanga2690 ciao.

is there an age limit for studying in the vocational school?
Hi Lysha! YDC can accept students of most ages as long as they are above 18. For our other partner vocational schools, it is safer to contact our team of coordinators to check and see if they can accept older students. :)

Is there a minimum requirement for Japanese speaking/reading/writing ability? (In terms of the JLPT: such as you have to pass N1 or N2 in order to get in?)
Vocational schools usually require at least the equivalent of JLPT N2 😊
Do have to pass class 12 to join a manga school in Japan? Must you have to finish graduation first or master's degree or any other minimum qualification is there?
Hi! This depends from school to school, but generally you need to be qualified to enter university in your country, which in most cases is 12 years of education. Hope that helps!
pass class 12 but you passed the toilet your ass is now brown

@@boxman1445 Don't be rude, let people have their dreams.
I know it’s probably the dream job of a lifetime for some of you out there but there’s a reality to some of these schools is that they at the end of the day are businesses whose bottom line is to make money and they will make money off the hopes and dreams of aspiring otaku.
There’s a roughly 70% dropout rate at these universities because the students can’t handle the stress and the competition and on top of that, the language barrier and trying to work part time to keep from starving.
If you’ve got rich parents who can send you to japan then great. For the rest of you, my advice is just get a day job that you don’t mind doing and in your free time work on your drawing skills and get your home brew manga published on Deviantart or some place.
You’ll be a lot less stressed out and happier.
Going to University in Japan might not be for everyone, but there are many foreign students who are very happy with their decision to study at YDC! It really depends on what kind of person you are and what goals you have. Finding happiness through studying abroad looks different for everyone!
I'm 23yrs old. And want to pursue art/manga. Can I join?
Of course, nothing speaks against it! 😊
