ALA 2 FLA 4: I LOVE THE KLR 650!!! So glad I didn't let sand scare me off.

  • The trail is winding down as we head deeper into Blackwater River State Forrest from our starting point in Alabama. This has been an amazing ride for me. Everything is starting to come together in my riding. Two years ago I was resigned to the fact I'd have to wait for that dream trip to truly get off road and get away from sand. So glad I didn't give up...

If there is a secret, that and keeping your speed steady is it! At least it was for me

And grip the tank with your knees when standing on the pegs. Makes it easier to steer with your hips.

@@techydog7854 and that too! Once you get the "steady" down you can begin to work on your "weight shift steering"

I hate hip cramps. I dangle my leg while I ride that seems to help. But sometimes when I go to put my foot back up on the peg it comes back. So I have to stop and stand up for a while.

You’re doing great Scratch! Once we have more confidence we have more fun! This is my mantra from Dune as I ride scary terrain-
“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.”

Glad Im not the only one that gets hip cramps. A little drill to practice that may help you when pulling away when you need to get standing quickly. Start the bike, knock it into gear but have the clutch in. Lift both feet onto the pegs, then pull away. Once you can do that well do the same again. But this time stand before pulling away. Lots of practice next to a wall can help.

I picked up my new 2018 KLR650 Saturday and I love it. Totally different bike than the XR650L!!! I never knew a seat could be so cushy there is only smoke break limit on the KLR the XR has a tailbone limit. I could ride the KLR all day and never look back the XR about 1 1/2 hours and your darn near crippled. But in all fairness the guy before took out almost all butt cushion to lower the seat. I look forward to many miles on the KLR it's like a Cadillac. I'm not gonna get rid of the XR though it's just TOOOO MUCH FUN!!!

That was great. Every video you are concurring your fears and becoming a better rider. Cheek chiller’s and whistle thongs spring like a bad day on a motorcycle. Be safe my friend.

How about the Smokey Mountain 500? I have the gpx files for that and the 1,000. The 500 would give more fellowship time.
But you guys really need to think about the idea of eventuallycoming down here to the Florida Panhandle because we are slowly but surely creating a route just for the Delusionals to experience the best of what we have here.

Que marca y modelo es ??
Por que realmente me gusta mucho su sonido y me gustaria ponerle uno igual a mi KLR.

Start in the sand as if you are on pavement. When you are on paved side roads practice stop to standing in one motion. It will become more natural offroad. Sitting is a bad habit, the bike and bars have leverage on you and throw you around. Standing lets the bike move while your legs and arms absorb the motion, giving you leverage over the bike, Stay up on two. Your riding is improving every trip. Fun will soon take over fear. :)
