  • 2023 might just be the year of the super trainer, with most brands now having a daily trainer in their line-up that uses some of the tech from their carbon super-shoes. However, based on our testing not all super trainers are created equal, with some standing out as exceptionally versatile shoes that can handle everything from easy plods to race day, while others struggle to live up to their often outrageous price tags.
    In this video Nick runs through the top nine super trainers available, discussing the pros and cons based on our group testing, before four Run Testers pick out their favourite super trainer.

    ASICS Superblast is a gem! Amazing for everyday efforts and longer runs. I haven't used them for threshold workouts but I'll soon. They make my legs feel nice.

    Score three out of four Picks for the Speed 3; my trainer of choice as well. Cheers guys.

    I picked up the Hyperion Max at REI the other day for $101! First run in the shoe and I could really tell a difference between my usual Brooks Ghost daily trainer.

    Still love my Speed 3 but I also use carbon shoes I've got on a deal for daily training too, I have one pair each of Vaporfly Next% 1 & 2 with a few miles on that work really well.

    Would love a boston vs deviate comparison, tried both but not sure which would be best for “every type of run” maybe both;)

    Puma Deviate Nitro 2 has got to be best the all rounder. I have loads of shoes that I can’t resist buying when I see good reviews but I reach for these more than any other. So much so I’m onto my second pair.

    As someone with wider than average feet, I definitely don’t see the extra width in the Speed 3 as a con as I can now wear them. I also need the wide fit in the Deviate Nitro 2 but there seems to be only one online retailer in the UK that stocks it - even Puma UK don’t!

    Of the shoes here I only have the puma deviate nitro 2, but running in the rebel v3 at the same effort and compared to the puma, the rebel for me is at a slightly lower HR.

    Where can you find the Endorphin Speed 3 for cheaper? I'm not seeing it

  • @bobcog0001
    @bobcog0001 Před 8 měsíci

    the only reason I would choose the puma deviate nitro 2 over the endo speed 3 is because the foams provide virtually same performance but the foam in the puma retains its properties far longer than the power run pb foam in the endo speed 3.

    Has anyone had any issues with the saucony speed 3 and Achilles problems. I get quite serious rubbing on both feet which causes a lot of swelling and inflammation around the area

    Which is bouncier, the boston 12, superblast or endorphin speed 3?

  • @OrdMandrell1
    @OrdMandrell1 Před 11 měsíci +5

    I still think that the original Puma Deviate Nitro Elite is the best plated shoe for just about everything. The second version is great but it's slightly heavier. You can do daily runs, long runs, speedwork and races in them.

    @darthjohn0 Před 11 měsíci

    I'd like to see a comparison of the Asics Superblast vs. New Balance More V4. I'm looking for a long run shoe with some race pace efforts mixed in (1.5-2.5 hrs).

    • @slashdotdash1
      @slashdotdash1 Před 11 měsíci

      I would avoid the New Balance More V4 if you want to do any faster running as they are so heavy and bulky it feels like running in bricks. Only good for slower recovery runs for me. Would pick the Superblast or Saucony Endorphin Speed 3.

  • @jonathantimm4645

    I would love to try the Speed 3 but the Speed 2 gives me heel blisters from hell. The Deviate Nitro 2 is a shoe that I absolutely love but I would say that it is a little heavy but gives me a unbeatable fit.

    • @darthjohn0
      @darthjohn0 Před 11 měsíci +2

      The Speed 3 is a totally different shoe. I'd give it a try, as there a good chance it will work different for you than the Speed 2.

    • @JoutarouKuujou1
      @JoutarouKuujou1 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Speed 2 has more pop than the speed 3 but the speed 3 is more of a daily trainer and is more stable with tiny bit of heel rub

    Question
    I ended up selling my Prime X as I couldn’t run for almost a week after running in them. The extreme stack meant I had so many eccentric muscle contractions on my runs (I gave them a decent go) that I had a severe case of delayed onset muscle soreness every time. I swore off shoes with more than 40mm of stack since then. Should I avoid the Superblast? When they eventually go on sale I might be tempted.

    1. Puma Deviate Nitro 2

    3. Saucony Endorphine speed 3

    Prefer to have the super daily trainer shoes like the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 and ver 4 next year 2024, then Adidas Boston 12 and ver 13 next year 2024, Puma Deviate Nitro 3 next year 2024, then either Nike Alpha Fly next % 3 or Asic Metaspeed Sky plus version 3 be the best racing shoes.

    Will there be separate episode for stability super trainers?

  • @dirkh2122

    A bit more than 70km into the Superblast and not impressed considering its price. Speed 3 with Mach5 is a better choice for me. And still a huge fan of the Tempo Next%, in particular at the nowadays rather low price one can get it....just a little loud. Oh, and I really start hating the term "Super Trainer". For me it's just the exclusive tech spreading from race shoes to tempo shoes and now eventually normal trainers. For me the Superblast is nothing more than a techy cushioned trainer.

      Do they weaken foot/ankle muscles etc? Change gait and running techniques? I just feel they haven’t been around long enough for the long term benefits/issues to arise as yet.

    • @timothywright320
      @timothywright320 Před 11 měsíci

      @@bestom1I don’t think there’s any long term studies yet, but I think the general consensus, as well as research shows, is that running in plated shoes ( daily trainers or racers ) daily will weaken your foot/ankle muscles over time

      @bestom1 ive been running in plated daily trainers for a while now and have noticed no change in my running technique. I have seen improvements in my times since using them but I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the plate or my training

      @user-hs9sp5ih6x Před 11 měsíci

      Ive been suing them for about 3 years now and I see no issues. I run ~15 miles 3 times per week and rotate between two pairs. If youre doing calf exercises and working out your legs you should be fine @@bestom1
