Syro-Hititte (Neo-Hittite) Stelae & Inscriptions from Iron Age Luwian-Aramaean Kingdoms

The collapse of the Hittite Empire in the Late Bronze Age (ca. 1200 BCE) led to the emergence of several Syro-Hittite (Neo-Hittite) states in the regions of Anatolia & Syria, often referred to as the Aramaean-Luwian kingdoms. These kingdoms (Tabal, Sam’al - Yahudi, Carchemish, Hamath, Bit Agusi & Adini etc), played a crucial role in the region's geopolitical dynamics during the early Iron Age, frequently interacting with the Assyrian Empire, as documented in their royal accounts. The material culture of these kingdoms is characterized by a syncretic blend of Hittite, Luwian, and Aramaean artistic, linguistic, & religious traditions, which is showcased in the following exhibition.
