  • Wow! This project was a challenge! My father-in-law, Steve and I created a dashboard (instrument panel) for his 1939 Jaguar Duke kit car. It's an organic shape with zero corners, no straight lines or references. Fortunately, Steve made a perfect template that fit precisely at the top edge where it mates to the car. He also had perfect dimensions of all the gauges, lights, switches, etc...and their locations. Fun project, but certainly had us scratching our heads! 😆
We used the Shaper Origin to create inlays and to cut odd shaped holes with precise dimensions and locations...but the overall shape of the dash was created old school...bandsaw, belt sander, router and bent laminations made of Walnut. Join us for the build...it turned out epic! And it had to be beautiful to match the incredible leather work...all created by Steve. Check it out!
The Shaper Origin is an incredible machine capable…so much more than I used it here! See more at: shapertools.com
At 6:30 I mention the glue we used for the bent Walnut laminations. Readily available and works great! But, it MUST be above 70° during glue up and cure time! Google search Dap (Weldwood) Plastic Powdered Resin Glue.

Absolutely beautiful motor car -- reminds me of the 1948 Bentley I had many years ago -- sold when I got divorced, along with my 1969 Jaguar XKE 2+2.

Looks great, Ramon! Especially the steering column cutout. You did a great job on that as well as everything else. Watching you bend the edge was very informative. And you are right sanding the edge before profile routing makes a big difference. And yes that car is amazing. Thanks for sharing again.

What an amazing project, Ramon. You and Steve make a great team with the dashboard and Steve's leather work is outstanding. This was a perfect application for the shaper origin. Thanks for taking us along for the ride (I couldn't resist 🙂)

      Pun! 😬
It took a bit of head scratching to create the perfect shape. (The top edge has to fit the car). But yeah, Steve’s pattern was spot on! Thanks a lot David!
