  • Helllooo everybody and come along for the ride as I resurrect the Hartford Whalers as an expansion team on NHL 24.
In this episode, we'll cover the Year 4 Preseason and start by tuning into the 3rd period of the opener against the Philadelphia Flyers. Leading 2-1 with goals from the newly-signed Michael Rasmussen and Dylan Coghlan, could Arturs Silovs hold down the stretch as he works his campaign to be Hartford's backup goaltender this season.
We'll then simulate a few games before jumping into another live look-in with a score of 2-1, this time against the New York Rangers with Daniil Tarasov in net. Tarasov enters as the preseason favorite to secure the backup job behind Yaroslav Askarov. However, he'll need to string some good performances together after a surprisingly strong showing from Silovs.
Then we'll move along to the preseason finale as we enter the third period down 5-1 against the New Jersey Devils. Askarov didn't have the best debut, although he stabilized in the 3rd period and stopped every shot he faced. Gage Goncalves and Jacob Perrault would add late goals in hopes of a comeback effort, but more importantly in hopes of making the final roster as they're both on the bubble.
Overall the Whalers have a solid foundation in place that they've built over the past few seasons. Thus, most spots on the roster are almost all solidified. However, guys like Goncalves, Perrault, Graeme Clark, and Will Cuylle are all battling each other for the last couple of spots on the team. Perrault led Hartford with 5 goals in the preseason, but would that be enough to secure a spot on the Whalers' roster for the first time?
We'll close the episode by making the final roster decisions as we also shape up our lines for opening night against the Boston Bruins. Hartford is in hopes of the most successful season to date, and it all starts with how the squad shapes up in the preseason!
In the next episode, we'll host the Boston Bruins for the Year 4 season opener from the XL Center. The Whalers missed the playoffs by just a handful of points last season and look to return to the postseason after locking up young franchise centerpieces such as Askarov and Leo Carlsson, along with the big acquisition of Brandon Montour who will make his Hartford debut.
