Thank YOU Jonny
your the truth bro
I hope to see you and Rodney skate together one day man!
@Johnny Giger you're exactly what he's talking about. Keep rolling 🤙🏻
Rodney Mullen is the Isaac Newton of Skateboarding.
Na man, the TESLA!
Island Gore Newton ~= modern physics, laws of motion, etc... Ya know, like a skateboard. Tesla ~= electricity... like a skateboard.
@@endlessvoid7952 TESLA in my eyes will forever be the only great mind but for the sake of this whatever you say.
@@endlessvoid7952 It's not because it relates to physics it's because he developed many of the first tricks that lead to street skateboarding like the ollie, kickflip, heelflip, and 360 flip, While isolated. I remember either watching a video or reading something where Rodney was talking about how his dad did not want him to skate, because he was a dentist and had to work on kids who messed up their mouths skateboarding, so he moved them to a remote place where he was separated from the contest circuit and could not compete or compare his progression with others. Where he developed the tricks mentioned above. Like Isaac Newton who worked on some of his influential work in calculus while isolated by the Great Plague of London.
Arnoldo Gonzalez Wow.. Take a deep breath
Rodney, we understand the thing about not wanting to be judged, but I need you to understand how much all of skateboarding is in love with you. We are dying to see you skate. You could seriously just ride down a sidewalk and we would eat it up.

Daewon Song vs Rodney Mullen Rd 2 might be the greatest skate video ever made
It's my fav of all time, definitelty one of the best.
Danny Nam fuck yeah
Top 5 for sure. A lot of tricks that only those two can do
Round 3 though....one of the sickest tricks Rodney does a BS crook nollie v heel out on a forklift prong, makes less sense than any of the primo tricks at the end, which are Godly. And he has that weird way of forcing the trick while maintaining perfect posture so it just looks like he's trying yet it's easy. Round 2 though they look like thugs the way the footy is, skating benches like a 5" Manny pad...........part 4 dude where's it at
Round three was my first vid ever. Mind forever blown
This guy have no idea about what he did, somehow this amazes me, he's so humble. I'd die to have the chance to see him skating in person.
Semente de Maçã at the end of the day, he’s like us, just doing what he loved doing. He just did it so well and so early that it inspired so many people. I doubt fame was on his mind, he just wanted to land that one trick for himself everyday. Legend.
Semente de Maçã i read person as prison and went😟
You’d die for that shit???? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
MEU sonho ver o cara ao vivo
I saw him live at the Globe Opinion tour amazing. Landing those tricks 1st 2nd or 3rd time in his own style
I got to meet the legend in real life,a kid meeting his hero.
lucky you ,
i wanna see him before we all go
My dream
Me too. I was 13 years old and I've met a lot of really famous ppl later on in life due to working in the French Quarter in New Orleans, but I was never as "star struck" or so very proud to have met Rodney Mullen. I will never forget the demo I went to as a youngster and being able to skate with him when the demo was over. That was truly a day I will always remember.
@The Real Miklo really its not ive never mentioned this before i dont think.
The Real Miklo we can all tell you just mad or sad at the world . Don’t be , be a fucking legend my dude !! We love you
Rodney used to smile so much when I used to see him skating around the Venice Boardwalk in the late 90's. Glad I got to see that.
I couldn't imagine.
czcams.com/video/fsp-wngCA9I/video.html
Lucky!
Dude Rodney, if you’re reading this, we aren’t gonna judge you if you aren’t at your peak anymore. We’d be happy just to see you throw around a few basic manual combos and some new goofy tricks. We don’t care if you can’t release a mind blowing part. We just enjoy watching you skate. Even if you did a few kickflips on flat.
I want to be in the same place as someone who would give Rodney crap for not being ‘at his peak’ and call them out HARD.
Rodney is one of those rare humans you hear about in folk tales. A person that came along and had a profound understanding of something, having an innate understanding of their specific field so concentrated it's as if he's channeling the universe itself. His attention to craft is like that of Canibus in hip hop, Hendrix to guitar, Michelangelo to art, Michael Jordan to basketball.
The Flat Ground Ollie was cuz of you. The start of almost every trick. How we take it for granted
Joey Lackey And kickflip
and Ollie was because of Alan Gelfand -- that's what he mentioned, taking something, changing it, and giving it back.
I remember when I saw him do the "Vulcan mind meld" completely blew my head to bits.💥
....Alan Gelfand did the flatground ollie, rodney did do the kickflip and about every other flip trick back then.
Im sorry no, Alan Gelfand was the first one to do an ollie on vert, but rodney was the first one to do it on flat
I’ll never understand you, YOU who disliked a 15 minute Rodney Mullen vídeo posted 7 minutes ago. But I know you must be sad.
Cops and security guards
Those 4 people live a truly sad, sad life. I am sorry for them.
Posers, the lot of them.
Nick Revitte this guy was the first man to Ollie more than a curb and invented the kickflip and any flatground trick you can think of. Anyone who can hate on this humble guy are just sad and sick
Or maybe he's just like a lot of us who think this guy is WAY overrated. He's a skateboarder. He didn't cure cancer.
The definition of humble

Rodney is still humble enough to get emotional over the fact that he’s loved! Everyone knows he’s a legend. INSPIRED THE FREEDOM I GET FROM MY BOARD! Thank you Rodney 🛹😍
czcams.com/video/fsp-wngCA9I/video.html
This guy is a legend and a physical genius. He pretty much invented every trick in street skateboarding
I could listen to him to hours and hours. The Goat!
David Aston that’s how long it would take before he said something interesting. I like when he lets his skating do the talking because it sounds like he’d rather be a motivational speaker than tell interesting stories.

As a kid growing up with low self-esteem who constantly felt like an outsider, things like skateboarding and music where instrumental in shaping my identity and giving me confidence. It's provided me with tools of creative thinking that's carried over into my other interests, including mathematics and computer science. If you ever happen to see any kids skating in public. Just know that those kids are on a journey to find themselves.
This is a beautiful thought. Thank you for typing it and posting it.
Thank you Rodney Mullen...finally some awesome scientific thinking on skateboarding. This means a lot to me in this dark time in my life being a homeless skater. I want to be a software engineer and hope I can transition to a better life. You gave me hope that I have more than what other people think of me, thank you.
You got it man it's all about hard work. Always get back up!!
Keep pushing and believing :)

You can do it, get a backpack and a laptop and you've got what you need. Hit up some libraries for internet and get a degree online, with the whole pandemic it's more possible than ever to do it all online.
Good luck and hope you achieve what you desire to.

Rodney Mullen is the king of skateboarding and no one could take his spot. Literally the most influential skater to ever exist
Mark Gonzales
@New Keys Rodney invented tricks on a pop sickle. Mark Gonzales brought it to a regular skateboard. I've been skating for 26 years.
@New Keys Let's see, i started skating in 1986. Freestyle was a niche. I used to skate freestyle and street and i actually owned Rodney's Chess board and a Kevin Harris. Rodney was the only thing that made it cool. Freestyle wasn't popular and it eventually died. When it died Rodney had nothing to do, Rodney wasn't a street skater, but Mark Gonzales is the guy who those the elements to make Street skating what it is. You name it....Gonz did it. Steve Rocco and Gonz took Rodney and pulled him out of the death of freestyle, and he rode for World. iLook i love Rodney to death but the Gonz's contribution is recognized by the people who were there and saw it. Rodney Mullen wouldn't be as recognized today if Gonz / nautas etc. didn't evolve his freestyle tricks. Older people who were there sometimes see the whole picture. I'm not discounting your opinion because i respect what you have to say.

Le fou ne sait pas qu'il l'est
yup, still got great hair too!
I met him on accident in my little hometown in Germany in the late 90’s .We were driving to my “skatepark “ with 3 obstacles.
There was only one guy skating and I said to my friend from inside the car : “This guy looks like Rodney !”
My friend answered:” No way ....never In my whole life ...!”
He did one of his signature moves & things were clear then! What is he doing here in our “backyard spot “? We walk towards him & he was so kind! Unbelievable! My friend didn’t say anything ,turned to stone ...so stoked he was !^^
We had a little session! It was like a dream! I got my camera from home & took a few photos ! There are still on my wall to this date!
One of that moments I never felt so alive !!! Thanks Rodney ❤️
SUCH a good dude. So glad to have you in my life and to be able to call you a friend.
I could listen to Rodney Mullen for hours. He's an absolute genius and so very modest about his intellect and his contribution to the world. What a legend!
Notice the lack of "uh", "um", etc,
I admire how well spoken and thoughtful he is.
That's something you learn in a basic elocution class, they do exist and are standard in majors like communications or liberal arts. Using "uh" or "um" is a clear indication of a lack of education, even though it isn't a measure of intelligence. It has a clear parallel for example to people who need to read out loud, in comparison to those who can read in silence.
I wish I could speak like that
Everything just flows natural with him he’s fucking pure
@@julesl6910 lol no it's not. People use uh and umm to collect their thoughts before continuing. I've heard well educated, intelligent people use both uh and umm. Your theory doesn't check out. Sorry bud.

I love Rodney Mullen so much. He is truly special in multiple ways. I noticed that quickly when I learned about his story. An absolute pleasure to listen to him.
In my depression I haven’t felt the warmth of his knowledge in years thank you Rodney
Rodney is too humble. He has AMAZING style! One of the few skaters you can watch a dark silhouette of skating and immediately know it's him.
“No thank you for taking what I did and doing what I never could imagine.” That right there is the purest and most unselfish thing, shows his pure passion for the sport and wanting skateboarding to keep evolving and growing. Amazing, Rodney. From a 26 year old man who doesn’t skate anymore but still loves it to this day, thank you for everything you’ve done!

Rodney - you will forever be embarced by the community, even if its just for you love, passion and kindhearted nature. i love rondey mullen so much words can't express it. i moved on from skateboarding but his words translate through any medium. i still skateboard for the feel every once in a while.
Skaters are scientists by definition, it evens follow the exact scientific methodology of formulating hypothesis, by thinking of a trick, trying and making it real, if trick isnt possible then do some adaptation and try again, this is basically how rodney invented modern deck's design

When I was about 13 years old, I got the chance to go to a demo in which I got to meet and skate with Mullen after the demo. I've met MANY of famous ppl due to working in the French Quarter for years, but I have never been "star struck" or proud to have gotten to meet Mullen. Yea, it was cool to meet other famous stars n shit but getting to meet a legend and someone you consider your biggest idol and inspiration is unparalleled to have gotten to meet anyone else in the world. I will NEVER forget that day. That day, even tho I was new to skating at the time, changed the way I perceived skating and pushed me to give it my all and become as good or the skater that I became. Rodney...you are a true legend and definitely my biggest hero since that very day.
it makes me happy thinking of when he spoke about the time hanging out and skating with tony as a kid cause i had that experience with my friends, and im honored to have felt the same kind of that wholesome feeling as rodney did, learning new trick and stuff.
loved him from the starting points of my skating 20 years ago, and i still adore this man. he was my first skate hero, someone whose tricks and approach i first tried replicating, not knowing any better back then i should develop MY own skateboard profile
Much love to you Rodney. Thank you for all the inspiration you have given us. Inspiring talk too. 🙏🏼 If you decide to go out more to skateboard related communities, parks, meet-ups etc, I think people would greet you with so much gratitude and respect everywhere you go. We’ve all seen skaters grow older by now. It’s normal. I think seeing older skaters still skate, still challenge themselves is just as inspiring as seeing younger generations shredding it, or a beginner nail their first kickflip. Skateboarding is the rarest “sport” where you truthfully with all your heart WANT your opponent to nail the trick, so that the game of skate can go on forever.
czcams.com/video/fsp-wngCA9I/video.html
Skaters need more “skater-ship”, more union , emm friendship, the help all community , to this form the sport change as “friendly and creative”
Maybe, but skating for me, and a lot of people I know well who skate a lot, use it as almost a means of meditation. You go out to a spot by yourself and stay there for hours on end in 'your own zone' just learning a new trick or a couple new tricks. The best skaters in the park are the ones who are usually by themselves, bit awkward, just going hard. That, plus skating has always been a bit of a rebel thing to do. It annoys people when you stay at a spot too long, for whatever reason (too loud, you break shit, people can't use a stairs because there's 'these skaters there', etc.). That, plus some other shit, has made skating into this rebel thing as well, like society doesn't want you to do it, some feel like skaters act as if 'they own the place' sometimes or whatever, when in actuality you just want to do your thing.
@@Mastersteef123 You say a "truth" this is focus , but my point is the compañerism in others skaters , the actitude of a person change a trick , if you have a good vibe and share this with others , you and the skate make magic , maybe underst my point , is a mental status , compañerism not damage your talent
