    We are not dialed in to the associations because they have no value to us, and it costs us a lot of money.

    Thank you for your leadership during this difficult time for the NAR. You are absolutely right about the good work being done behind the scenes at the NAR, NCAR and our local associations. I wish that everyone took the opportunity to attend Legislative Week in DC in the spring every year. That's where I had the honor of meeting you for the first time last year. It allows you to appreciate the good work being done to build relationship with elected officials around the country on behalf of homeowners. Their support was critical to keep us working during the pandemic. It something that most members are not aware of and don't appreciate. Here at the RRAR, we spent one week in August interviewing folks running for elected positions in Wake and Harnett Counties. We are supporting the candidates who are Realtor (and homeowner) Advocates with RPAC funds. Those checks are currently in the mail. I encourage everyone to get involved in their local and state associations so they can begin to appreciate all of the work that is being done on their behalf and that of their clients. They are doing it for the benefit of the members of their association with absolutely no compensation other than our thanks and a pat on the back.

    Honestly, I think NAR has lost their way along with most local associations. I have always been an active member but depending on who holds leadership positions so goes the agendas. I have seen lack of participation due to associations not dealing with day to day of what really affects membership. They need to come back with a different message.

    I love your videos! I came across them after hearing the NAR news last Friday. I was very worried about all the misinformation out there and how this affects the buyers' and sellers' perception of us. Also, I was worried about what may happen to our associations. I cannot imagine not being a part of the NAR and our local Board of Realtors! I see a lot of comments that it costs too much. Yeah, maybe if you're not selling homes, but if you are making a living at this or even if it's a good side hustle, it is well worth it. Like you said, just having all the paperwork needed (that's constantly updated) and just think of the Code of Ethics. Without any ethics in place, Realtors will turn into sharks, and people will suffer. Anyway, thank you for your videos; they have given me some hope and good info to tell my clients and friends :)

    Leigh, My friend Gary told me about you and I am glad he did. Your outlook is so refreshing! I truly see your heart in every message you share and I trust your feelings to be sincere. None of us are perfect as you said. I personally choose to believe that most people have good intentions. This includes our leadership. *Thank you* for bringing so many points to the surface.       IIRC, Arizona is one of only two states that allow real estate professionals practice law relative to real estate. I don't recall the other state. If anyone knows where this is the law, please reply below.

    So well spoken Leigh… Come from Curiosity and WE… your messaging is so on par with what I hope more of our leaders would address and share while work is also done behind the scenes in the organization and organizations to continually “do better” we can do better, and we must do better TOGETHER..

    I joined only because I was forced with the Brokerage I was with. The only benefit I can say I had was access to the GAR forms. Luckily, I found out you can pay $240 for the year to access the contracts in Remine and not the entire amount.

    This is the most deceptive video I've ever watched on this channel. You avoided answering the question posed in the title. Should you be a member? The simple fact is most licensees have no choice, because of the Association rule that requires all agents affiliated with a Realtor broker must also be Realtor Association members. And even more importantly, most MLS systems are owned by the local Realtor Association which requires the purchase of a Realtor membership to be eligible for a MLS membership (tied products anti-trust violation). MLS membership is an essential for almost all residential agents. Sure you make some good points but to avoid these facts misses the entire point. It seems that an Association that provides so much value as you suggest, should not need to coerce agents to join.

      Thank you for your comment. It is not deceptive, as many members are in markets, where they do have choices. That being said, many associations and MLSs are undergoing bylaw changes which could allow a change in their structure. I believe this is positive because free markets are effective. There's a lot of misinformation about the association's value, which I'm addressing here.
      I encourage my fellow Realtors to stay informed about national discussions and consider being part of a solution. I've chosen to contribute to a solution and believe in providing transparent information.

      I seriously don't believe that Leigh would ever choose deceptive comments. She is 100% spot on. She said in numerous ways that there are many things that we can do better. As far as membership and freedom to choose is concerned, I think she is correct in her statement. MLS is a local function, provided by the local association. I choose to be a member of NAR, OAR, and Columbus Realtors because I want to be plugged into things that impact our industry at each level. Choosing not to would leave many things in the hands of other people, sort of like the freedom to vote! Bottom line in my opinion, is that we have to stick together. Its much stronger than one against many!

    Wonderfully addresed! But just as it seem a lot of these buyer agents haven’t done a good job of showing there value. Nar need to do a better job of sharing there value.. this video was helpful. And Yes.. I asked... the only response I got was you need it to access the GOLDEN BOOK MLS.. LOL

    If you have a choice of local associations to join (I personally have a choice of 3), I'd also encourage REALTORS® to ASK what ownership interest your local association holds. I was disappointed in activity of an entity solely owned by the local association I was a member of, so I asked questions, talked to local agents about what was important to them, and tried to get the local to change that activity. They refused. So I switched my membership to a different local association that aligned better with my values. Pay attention and ask questions!!!

    It is time to start requiring a retainer to show buyers property. If they don't have $2000 in cash for my broker to hold then we don't go look at homes. If no purchase happens in the first 6 month, I charge $75 each house $25 an hour for researching and remove that from the refund. And done!
