whose here after the mark williams cue tip video on stephen hendry?
Me
Me. The real shot was nothing like the 'recreated' one - the recreated one was at an angle with the black further from the pocket - the real one was dead straight (still not in any way easy though, with the danger of an in off and playing across the nap) - you can see Stephen twitch it, just like Mark said on cue tip that he did!
I watched Mark set the shot up for Stephen on Cue Tips just this morning. Spoiler - he missed it again. All in fun - two legends poking each other. 😊
Ha, I just watched that and came to see the real one again...think the real one was easier. What a great watch seeing a couple of proper legends bantering about it so many years later
@@bagpussmacfarlan9008 You’re a proper Scot aren’t you? Attaboy. I’m not a snooker player (just eight ball) but am astonished by so many fantastic snooker masters.I can run a bunch of balls but look like an idiot on a proper table.
@@jaberwoky_ Only my name is Scottish...I'll let you off the insult 😉
haha same.
Doesn't Mark Williams at this age remind anyone of Harry Potter actor Matthew Lewis (Neville Longbottom) ?
David Young fuck me he dose mate lol big time 😆😆😆
Haha well spotted!!
Draco Malfoy Vs Neville Longbottom
I was about to say that 😂
No!
Williams world champ 2018!!!😎😎😎
Montreal Seb 💪☺️
a well deserved one...
3rd time World champion and multiple triple crown winner.
Who would have thought that 20 years before
Great sportsmanship from Williams as he nearly got up to shake hendry's hand but he missed
EDIT notice his hand at right side of the screen at 4:32
Great eye!
well spotted!
Great spot
He actually used The Force
@SKINHEAD Why?
Even though I have known the result of this game for years now I still get tense watching it. 2 great sportsmen.
What a raucous crowd! It's kinda nice to see them so passionate, it seems there's less of that these days.
Incredible crowd.
That Masters trophy looks so much better than what we have now.
The crowds went wild in those days
They've all gone woke now?🤨🤔🤯😬😫🙈😫😫
@@craigmorgan4676 Wtf does that even mean in this context, you absolute balloon lol
36 sec for Dennis to mention the ‘85 final.
Then another 21 sec for him to mention it again.
Bob Smith I'm surprised he didn't mention bloody golf as he usually does!
Bob Smith whats you're point
To be fair if there was ever a time to mention it...final frame decider on the black would be it.
Noticed that myself!
Yeah but people like you bring it up too so everybody gets reminded and told about it still :s
One of the best finals I ever seen
The crowd seem far more passionate than nowadays which is sad.
Exactly .
how can you really get up for the siesta from leicester and co?
Probly cos of how the venues create the atmosphere. Wembley conference probably had a different indoor atmosphere to Wembley Arena and now Alexandra Palace.
@Ken Bingsley what about Trump
There was so much less to do back then other than watch TV...and snooker was on 🤷♂
Everyone remembers the 85 final because you keep reminding us Denis
Remember this match v well final frame of Benson and hedges masters in 1998 I was at my grandmother 's house from wht I recall this match went on til 11.30pm & think most of us welsh cheered that nite. Great stuff from both players.
Hannah Davies sheep sheep sheep shaggers
Hannah Davies yes me too. Sunday night snooker at your Gran’s was a staple back then. Good memories.
Was half way the stairs couldn keep my eyes open and Grampa shouts Henry has missed again then mark Williams became champion be Wales went mad that evening
The intense pressure for the deciding black. Remember the Crucible final btw Dennis vs Steve Davis...
Best final ever (yes, including THAT one) but all I can think is how baggy the shirt sleeves were back then 🤣
I remember watching this what a final.i like Mark s dandy jump when he pots the black. Best final ever!
And yesterday, world chapmion again :)
it is almost ridiculous ! :D Awesome
Gutted for hendo but well done mark. Great character and player
I can't believe Stephen Hendry missed that black ball.
i can't believe too
He put side on it u could see the white swerve a bit he must've been worried about the on of, did u see the way he lined it up he looked like the devil lol
Really does look like he missed it on purpose.
Nah no way would hendry miss it on purpose he's not like that loves to win
Same bro
Dear Dennis,
We all know you won the 85 final. TRUST ME. You can stop talking about it now.
Regards
The entire snooker community
Jon Wilson shut up moron
Jon Wilson the 85 final, all square after 34 frames, and went down as one of the very few black ball finals, won in the final frame, on the final black.
Of course he's going to make a comparison to this match, which was all square after 18 frames, and all down to the final black.
I don't think it was 2 out of order him referencing a similar situation that he was involved with in 85, with similar tension in the crowd, and with both his and Steve's arm going to jelly with nerves.
But I suppose, if you really want to be nitpicky, he's dead proud of winning the world title against Steve Davis. If I had taken a world title off Steve Davis I'd be talking about it for ever more as well.
@@RB747domme yeah, that's fair play. It was 1998 after all. But back then, Dennis, give it a rest please (no snooker pun intended). Now in 2020, I like to hear about 1985 again. We won't have DT forever, nor SD. So, let's hear their comparisons and stories galore! I was an SD fan. Him vs Hurricane Higgins, then Jimmy White, then the death to all 1980's players in the form of Stephen Hendry - who was the Mike Tyson of his day. Good old days.
Don't have to call him a moron but not the right time to talk about it here
Stop talking about it now? Dude this was in 1998 not 2020
For me the greatest final masters ever. All square and needing the last ball only for the last man standing, what a final!!!
There was a respot final in the 70s. Mountjoy reardon I think
What an amazing final frame
When Hendry ruled the world!!!
What an end at the final!👍
Hendry looks like jack from Titanic 😂
Justin Fagan no he doesn't
Hahahaha Yes
Looks like Caspar when he turns human.
Difference is the titanic sank but the black didnt.
😂There's a pot Jack...there's a pot....there was one.
is this the best haircut hendry ever had in his career?
Hendrys Davis 85 moment.
The King of Crucible ✔
OMG, Mark Williams was sooo sweet here. Well, He was 22 or 23 at this time. But now, he is also not ugly. Just older. Like we will be in 22 years.
Loved the crowed
Hendry true class!!
This shot was recreated between the two fellas in 2022: v=MgA4d3ojJBI starting 18:18
I'm here cos of that too !
the difference in the money on that blqack!!! huge at the time...still is.
Williams never stripped naked for this one after winning.
McLovin
how much has williams aged since this!!
John Cooper geezer went bald in his late teens hahahahahaha
John Cooper we all do unfortunatley lol
Funny that being 20 years ago, I mean, who even normally looks older after 20 years???
John Cooper Jesus Christ you're special, aren't you? :D
I never understood that statement, people normally age as they get older it's called life which people seem surprised about.
I Hendry is still hurting from that!
i cant believe that was mark williams. what a handsome young lad
QUIETTTT PLEEEEASE!!!!
Первый раз вижу финал,в котором в решающей партии до последнего шара играют.
No shit Sherlock
Great trophy and they changed it for the crappy glass one
Greatvgreatvgreat
Mark Williams 👍👍👍 Best of the Best 🏆🏆🏆
I used to watch Hendry when I was small. I used to hate his guts when he used to beat Jimmy White every year. It turns out this Hendry guy is a legend and a professional. How wrong I was. What a player.
excluyousivite ha ha I'm the same
excluyousivite lol
Put glasses on mark williams = McLovin (Superbad)
Looking back on the tournament, I'm sure that Stephen would say that, in missing that easy shot into the middle, he didn't deserve to win and Mark (who went for the double earlier) did
Dazedly stuffing into his pocket the envelope with the check. I believe he remained fully dressed after that.
0:13 Ronnie fans!
Listen to Dennis!
Wish I could of been there.
AnimalStomper have*
AnimalStomper lol
1998?
Williams.. he's as cool as horses shite on a frosty morning.. fantastic player..👍
ระทึกมาก
How baggy is Mark Williams' shirt??
The one that got away for Hendry
This is MENTAL
Mark looks about 12 years old!
Sorry don't speak the jargon, what is re-spotted?
Selby did same shot in 2021
in a situation like this, what happens if a player goes in-off without potting the black?
Daniel Rajaiah nothing different, it’ll be a 7 point foul to the opponent and then they’ll get to respot the white in the D.
They’ll still need to pot the black to win, however if the person who fouled pots the black then it’ll be a respotted black as they’ll have equal points after potting it.
Esoteric Star Wars Rubbish - Actually the points for the final black (or a respotted black as here) can only be awarded once. So if a player goes in-off with or without potting the final black (or respotted black) they would lose the frame (and match in this case). For the same reasons it is impossible to play for snookers on the black, because even if you managed to force the opponent to foul, that would be the end of the frame - no option to pot the black afterwards (or play for more snookers). This means that if either player is leading by more than 7 points after the pink is fairly potted, the frame is unequivocally over and the other player is not allowed to return to the table. The player who successfully potted the pink is allowed one attempt to pot the black though, which they usually do if they are on for a break of 50 or more.
Joe Graham oh sorry mate I had no idea, there’s me thinking I know my snooker. Thanks for correcting me.
Apologies for my confusion OP.
Just got this from Wikipedia
*There are three less common ways to end a frame:
A foul on the black, when the black is the only ball left. It is sometimes wrongly assumed that play continues after a foul on the black if there are fewer than seven points between the scores. This is not the case: the player who is in the lead following the assessment of a penalty after a foul when only the black remains is the winner.*
So correct me if wrong, if I have 50 points and opponent has 57 points with only the black to play, and my opponent goes in-off. We would carry on like a respotted black situation except that the black ball is not respotted right, it is played from its last position?
Daniel Rajaiah Good question. Actually that would be a respotted black. When your opponent fouled, you would be given the points for the black and the frame would ordinarily be over, but since that would level the scores, a respotted black would be necessary.
Back when ciggies sponsored sport. Logic
If you reading the comments while watching let me just say that Mark won or did he.........
Thank god Dennis taylor did not play for england in the world cup.....lol from 1985 to 1966
I think Williams accidentally put on Stephen Lee's shirt
I know it swinging on him.
The pot that broke Hendry.. was never the same.
04:31 talk about nerves! A shot Stephen would've hit blindfolded!
This shot is really underrated. It wasn't THAT easy. The cue ball was close to the cushion and it was a straight shot, without any cuts. To avoid the cue ball falling into the middle pocket right after the black Hendry needed to add spin, which was hard to do due to the cue ball being near the right cushion. So it wasn't a joke, for sure not at such a nervous moment.
I don't think that shot was pure nerves, he was thight on the cushion with the cue ball and dead straight on the black, difficult shot...
Neville longbottom v Leo decaprio
how mark went from looking like an 18 year old to a man in his late 40s in 15 years is beyond me
That missed shot is the answer...
Welsh genes.
Thought same. Most dramatic ageing of any player
It’s just body type. He was always a tube. And the hair was already going.
That might be because he was actually 22(almost 23) at the time of this tournament... So add 15 to that and he would be 37,almost 38, so just normal ageing.
I'm shocked...when hendry missed middle black shot.
Yunus Hukkeri He never missed shots like that against Jimmy White.Poor Jim.
Did Mark have his dads clothes on ?????
It's not a easy shot under pressure!
You twitched
The pressure Hendry must’ve felt on his last visit to the table 😩🙈😢
Think Williams Shelby best to watch
light up a B and H !!!
Hendry: you know I won it six times but everyone remembers this one nobody remembers the victories.
Hendry hated losing, that's why he retired relatively young.
he also has a condition called "yips" which affected his vision and depth perception. it basically degrades your senses faster than usual
Tanay Luthra that isn’t what the yips is you muppet 🤣
He actually explained it was due to not following through on his shots like he previously had, he was stopping short and then overtime when it kept happening it became a psychological thing and soon avoided specific shots through fear of it happening again to the point he lost his game.@@TanayLuthra
The look 20 years younger here.
fc1873 well it was 1998 so yeah 20 years 😂😂
Daniel Carroll whoosh
wtf is that the same guy. looks 17 years old :)
Anybody else thinks mark looks like Neville from Harry Potter?
Stephen Hendry was so handsome
Show that in 2023 ?
y
The only crime in this video is Mark's baggy shirt sleeves
What the fxxx ? Is that Jeffrey Archer presenting the trophy ? Was that just before he went to Jail ….
Looked like it to me. Jesus!
5:03 A skeleton wearing a massively oversized shirt
250k views, id bet atleast half are from Mark 😂
Haha Jeffrey Fucking Archer presenting
Whatever happened to the audience members wearing suits and ties?
Back when snooker was better, the crowd had to dress smart, they were louder and more passionate, the snooker was a far bigger spectacle
Shadow of that these days unfortunately
Seems to me snooker was a much more elitist sport at the time and now it's more popular and accessible in general. Which isn't a bad thing, is it?
@@FragmotionArts in the UK? You couldn’t be more wrong...
@@userjim83 mate, I simply said what it seems like to me. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe not so much (looking at the origins of F1, Polo etc) and perhaps Snooker isn't as popular as it was in the UK, but I mean all over the world it has increased in popularity and accesibility
@@FragmotionArts there’s no maybe about it, you’re wrong 👍
fuckin ell they both look 11 xD
Disappointed with Stephen Hendry. In a part of history but not a smile after
Williams could've still been a force in snooker if he didn't hit the booze and put on all that weight.
Won't you eat your words if he wins the world championship now 😂
Dylan Martin thats quite possible
Alistair Shaw I'd say he's looking favorite for it by far !
Dylan Martin its a new day and John stormed back to pull level yesterday evening.
Woops
Let's face it most people unless u were Scottish wanted Williams to win. I was one of them
Always mentioning the 85 final!, Was just a mediocre player on a lucky day
With S.Davis on a bad day!
Hendry fixed
