I think being creepy was largely accepted until the last 10 years or so . Just look at old interviews of 16 year old Britney Spears being asked if she was a virgin and there’s many similar videos from up to 00s of things like that . Thankfully attitudes have changed a lot and creepy behaviour like that is no longer acceptable , younger people especially are hyper vigilant about predators now which is a good thing IMO.

    One of the most scary things about Saville was that he relished the intrigue into his perversions. He played games with, and opened windows into, the atrocities that he was committing. It wasn't enough that he was committing these crimes, he had to go that extra step for satisfaction and rub it in the publics face. It is astonishing really.

      @@xinpingdonohoe3978 It's not that the public didn't care. Many people did come forward while he was still alive. Those statements never went anywhere. Savile was an extremely powerful man. He spearheaded campaigns to raise money via the public for different charities, and a lot of money was raised over the years. He was portrayed in the media as a lovable, eccentric personality, and I'm sure that most people thought he was odd, but didn't think any further than that. It was almost as if he had the British public under a spell; he was blatantly telling us what he was, but we didn't see it. Also it was a different time, with all that's coming out about celebrities these days, it's easy to say how could we not see it, but we didn't know what we know now.

Having said that, plenty of objectively terrible people have flown under the radar and those around them have written off suspicious behaviour as having an off sense of humour. Christ in the last 6 months CNN has had 2 top producers caught being kid touchers, 1 was trafficking them. Cuomo got fired in part for being a sex pest along with his brother. Don Lemon has been accused of grabbing d!cks. & the head honcho Zucker just resigned in disgrace because he couldn't keep his fingers out of the help... That's only the stuff we know about from 1 "news" network in 1/2 a year. The entire industry is filled with sex weirdos & political propagandists.

    I’m actually glad that an American organisation has produced this documentary about Savile.
    The reason being is that the people in television in this country, on all the networks, not just the BBC, are too close to the story, and human nature being what it is, they all want to subtly shift the blame to extricate their selves from the whole affair and how it was handled.
    They all work in the same business and people talk and switch channels and none of them are any the better for how this was dealt with; some are ex friends and some are of the ‘we all heard the rumours but no one had proof’ brigade (even thought they had had complaints from members of their own staff and probably did). I think that looking at this documentary, you can clearly see this ‘Ah but yes, but no’ approach from them.
    Finally, notice at the end how both Surrey and West Yorkshire Police claimed to have launched investigations, said mistakes were made but in the next breath gave themselves a clean bill of health? (What absolute b******s, but then again, it’s the English way).

    I can remember being at primary school in the late 70s and our teacher wanted us all to write a letter to Jimmy Savile, the presenter of ‘Jim’ll fix it’ TV show.
    I was horrified, I didn’t want that man to know where I lived and refused. I was told to stop being silly and told to behave, but I wouldn’t write to him. I just got a bad feeling about him and was surprised that the adults didn’t. But as an adult (cough, in 5th decade, cough) I can only conclude that the people around him must have known and chose to ignore the behaviour.

    The greatest thing a documentary like this could achieve, the most useful thing, would be for the talking heads on the screen to name the crew that Savile ran with; the men that were with him in the TV studios and the hospitals. Maybe then, with a light shining in THEIR faces, justice could be done for the victims. Otherwise, this is just entertainment.

    They always say these monsters get away with it because they appear so harmless, charming and "normal" (e.g. Ted Bundy), but looking at Savile there is no way you could take look at the guy and not be creeped out. He wasn't even trying to hide it much. Everyone must have known, they just didn't want to be the ones stand up to him.

    • @ArthurZakaryan23
      @ArthurZakaryan23 Před 2 lety +16

      Genuine sociopaths like Bundy are able to hide who they really are but in this guys case maybe he just didn't care at all to mask his true self and that's even more disturbing. When you are in the public eye and are generally accepted, and for Savile where the public knows his on-screen personality to be this strange/kooky way already, he just rolls with it but deep down it's much worse than people think.

    This man was an absolute creep, and it was so blatant and obvious in broad daylight. I feel so sorry for the women (that were children at the time) who have had their innocence and lives destroyed by this man. He was admitting to his lifestyle in every way shape or form , yet no one did anything. I feel sick and will be boycotting the BBC. It’s almost as if he was proud of it knowing that no one can touch him. He got away with facing the punishment while he was alive in this world, but believe me, he’s suffering in his grave. The world is cursing him, and he is turning and suffering in his grave.

    As an American I never knew any of this. When the Bill Cosby thing broke (which is probably the closest thing we have to this event) we were shocked. I was recommended this documentary by the web because it said “see also Jimmy Saville”. If Cosby was little league Jimmy was the World Series. Absolutely horrifying. There’s monsters in this world and they normally look like us.
