Fun fact: Hayden and Ewan trained for this duel for many months. They spent two months learning and training in fencing and fitness alone in order to prepare for their epic battle. They worked extensively with stunt coordinator Nick Gillard to memorize and perform their duel together for months before Lucas would even film them. As a result of their practice, the speed at which Kenobi and Vader engage in the duel is the speed in which it was filmed, and was not digitally accelerated. They could not have done a better job because what was displayed on screen is the greatest lightsaber duel in the entire franchise. Outstanding writing, directing, and acting by everyone involved.
They slowed down the Obi-Wan Maul fight in TPM not this one that’s a common misconception this was the speed they were going not sped up at all.
Such passion is amazing.

Even though it's just frame interpolation, I like the smoothness of this fight.
This is probably more accurate to witnessing on set what the actual dual looked like. They spent months learning and practicing before Lucas even considered filming them.
Love the quality. Also the disarming move Anakin does here 1:42 is exactly the same as how he beat Dooku, yet Obi-Wan can actually parry it. Fascinating. Definitely my favourite fight in the entire saga.
I can expect nothing less from obi wan. First of all obi wan is the master of sorseu, which is a predominately defensive lightsaber style, and he was anakins master who taught him everything. Throughout the fight, anakin was trying to look for openings, but obi wan was keeping them in check. U can even see at the start of the fight anakin is trying so hard to cut off his hand even before they enter the building like straight before he kicks obi wan into a flip
nope, it's not even close. Anakin cut Dooku's hands in a different way. He blocked aiming upwards holding his lightsaber with the tip pointing to the right (away from him), tilted the tip downwards (Dooku was pushing him), then held Dooku's lightsaber in place so that he could lift his lightsaber, did a reverse flourish spin (also known as the basic spin in Star Wars. It's also the move that every Jedi does to appear cool and flashy, but its actually a fencing technique like seen there) and disarm him easily.
In this duel, it's totally different. Not even his signature move is similar. In the part you're referring to, Anakin attacks Obi-Wan head-level with the tip pointing to the LEFT now. Obi-Wan blocks this and pushes his blade downwards away from him in a circular way. Then Obi-Wan attacks with the lightsaber tip but Anakin blocked that as well in a circular motion. After that, Anakin grabs Obi-Wan's lightsaber, they both do a 360 spin, Obi-Wan grabs Anakin's hand that was holding his lightsaber with his other hand then attacks when they finish the spin. It's hard to explain on text, you should really watch some tutorials of the fight and you'll see what I mean, or you could just put it on slow motion and try to recreate the moves, you'd realize they're completely different.

I am not trying to be hyperbolic here when I say:
what Obi-Wan's character achieved in this fight is nothing short of one of the greatest feats in Star Wars lore, even if he leaves Anakin to ultimately live and become Vader.
Fighting Anakin Skywalker at the peak of his physicslity and raw Force sensitivty as well as the culmination of every possible foul betrayal or negative emotion -- which only adds fuel to the Sith fire.
Again, taking on the literal "Chosen One" and winning, with the fate of an already wounded galaxy on the line no less.
A masterful exercise of stoicism, intelligence, patience, and raw duelling prowess only attributable to a one-and-a-trillion exemplar of the Jedi philosophy.
Save for *maybe* Mace Windu, I dont think anyone else walks away alive.
To be fair, Obi Wan’s fought alongside Anakin for ages. He knows him inside out

In this shot he has his lightsaber, next shot he has Anakin's. (look at the hilts)
The real explanation as to why this happened, is that the fight was actually much longer with them actively switching lightsabers, but most of it was cut and recycled as seen here.
well I mean ai and cgi weren't THAT good so they couldn't just replace this lightsaber with obi wan's lightsaber (they forgot to do some of the scenes so they just left it hoping people won't realise this. btw they did that good because literally 20/25 times I didn't realise that. I just watched how 2 brothers fight)

I really like this a lot, but i hate how slow the 60fps or whatever makes the fight look. One thing i always admired about the fighting is how hard it is to keep track, that u have to watch both of them again to see wat they did, but amazing edit, nonetheless

Fun fact, the shot at the end of 3:35 and the beginning of 3:36 is actually CGI. Lucas wanted to reshoot that shot to make Anakin and Obi-Wan pushing their lightsabers together but Ewan was unavailable for the re-shoot, so Lucas had the CGI team make that shot

Definitely the best duel in the entire francise. Only thing that could have made this better was if Anakin was using a red lightsabre.
I think blue vs blue is more emotionally impactful. It's almost like it's what's was left of Anakin but knowing it's not the same.

Im just gonna say, its the 4K's fault but for the first time ever I actually spotted the stuntmen and it pisses me off because I can't unsee it anymore, so the knowledge that Ewan and Hayden disappear and reappear is now embedded in my head 2:10 to 2:20 if anyone is curious. I love this scene so much and the devotion they had to train for this, so I will not let one "fight scene" that last 10seconds to ruin this for me xD

It's almost a testament to how split the light and dark sides were and how Anakin was there to restore balance. Even if Anakin lost this battle with Obi-Wan, he did win that war decades later.

It's normal, this movie was literally the second movie recorded completely in digital, the dynamic range was not very good so, even in its 24fps version it doesn't completely look like a movie.

that's cause quality isn't just frames, but a multidimensional concept. Many aspects are lost in the interpolation, which makes it look very odd sometimes.
