  • I can’t put a price on how much I value my time at home, but the current offers I’m seeing are “work more for less pay” which I will continue to graciously decline. Until I figure out how to do it better, Amazon keeps proving to be a pretty sweet gig.

    This is an excellent video. I’m doing the same thing. I run tanks and there is money in local. Not only that, it takes me half a day and 15-50 miles (3-5 hours) then I’m done. Net the same as regional which eats the entire clock. If it makes sense it makes sense.

      I’m down to do regional/OTR, it just has to pay better than local otherwise it doesn’t make sense. I’ll string together 3-5 of these “little loads” and make more than if I drove a couple states over. The bed at home is pretty comfortable. 👊🏻🍻

      @@STATTrucking Exactly. I have a question. When Amazon relay says the authority needs to be active a minimum of 180 days, is that within a certain time period? My bros authority was granted 11/2021 and revoked 5/2023 because business slowed down for him and he leased on to a carrier. If he reinstates now will Amazon approve him? I can’t find any contact info for Amazon Relay. Just the FAQ page and it’s vague to me. Thank you.

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před 10 měsíci +1

      @jross7277 I don’t know the answer to that and would hate to lead you down a wrong path based on an assumption. One thing Amazon does poorly (IMO) is make answer to questions like this available to people like you and I. I’ve been on loads with their equipment hooked up to my tractor and had something come up and even getting them to respond to that is like pulling teeth. Amazon is great if everything goes down like it’s supposed to but the second something “extra” comes up (I.e. the yard you are supposed to drop a trailer off at is at capacity and they need to re-direct you somewhere else), the system falls apart fast. The reason I make these videos (how to clear a trailer hostler shift, remote check-in, etc) is so hopefully you know how and didn’t have to wait for a callback (like I did). If you are able to find the answer to this, please let me know, that information would be appreciated. 👊🏻🍻

    I've been doing local for the last month and I LOVE IT! Over the last week, the app slowed down for me locally. The app has been funneling trucks to certain cities and the one-way loads have slowed down. I am fortunate because I Live within 5 miles of 6 Amazons. Hopefully tomorrow things will pick up

      I’m glad to hear it! For me, the “local game” involves a lot of patience because it’s not great every day, but it’s pretty good most days.
      Curious to hear your thoughts on this:
      Have you noticed that when rates drop for 53’, they seem to go up for 26’, and vice versa?
      It’s a trend I’ve noticed here and it has me considering adding a 26’ truck into the mix. It would be a lot of overhead but I swear I could make great money 7 days/week.
      I’d love your opinion on this. 👊🏻🍻

      Mine too, that’s why I don’t have people lease on because say I can ethically charge 10-15%, if they mess up one time now we both don’t eat for the next six weeks. The 10% I’m making doesn’t cover that.

I listened to one the other day where $500 on 411 miles was their top offer and was trying to make the guy feel like he should be lucky. My takeaway was, let’s stay local “AF” and not get into that situation until rates improve. I really felt bad for the guy because he was stuck. Hello.Did you have any trouble connecting to the relay as an new owner? How long did you wait before you could start working for amazon. I face too choose between creating new MC or buying MC (2019 since). Now I working with dispatch (10%) but I can’t to see all loads

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před rokem +1

      When I signed up with Amazon, they didn’t have the 180 day requirement, so my authority had been active for about 2 weeks when I tried, and they let me in. Since then (after the 180 day requirement), I have heard from several people who have waited up to 30 days for Amazon to accept them, after they’ve met the 180 day requirement.
      Whichever path leads you to seeing the “full” load board is the route I would take. I meet people (while working) who are dispatched and they seem to be making 40-60% of what I saw the load on the board for an hour before.
      Once, I was doing the trailer hostler shift (which I know pays $1000) and there was another person dispatched there for $600, plus they owed dispatch 10% ($60). So the guy doing the work made $540, and “dispatch” made $460. Be sure your dispatch is being transparent. 👊🏻🍻

    I want to run a semi in San Diego. how much did you actually take after truck & insurance. knowing you probably dived insurance an truck payment by 5 day work week or 6

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Short answer - in 2022 I kept a little over $90K after expenses and taxes.
      It’s easier for me to answer that question that way because I got into trucking in a “non-traditional” way.
      I had money I saved up working as a pharmacist and used some of it to pay cash for truck and trailer. I didn’t plan on doing it this way but when I was shopping for truck I was told that all new ventures were “high risk” and the average interest rate I was quoted for a truck loan was 20-30%. Keep in mind I had more money in the bank than I was asking to borrow and my credit was 825.
      I tell you this because there was no way I was going to pay 20-30% interest and made the decision to buy the truck outright.
      So, good news, I’ve never had a truck payment…
      But bad news, I started out this trucking thing really in the hole.
      Currently, my plan has not deviated from the staying local thing. Is it great every night? NO
      Is is pretty good 3-4/7 nights a week? Yes
      I average about 3-4 nights a week and sleep in my bed (at home) each night (or day, depending on when I work).
      The SoCal market has a lot to offer, just tonight I’ve received 6 spot capacity offers.
      Definitely find out what interest rate you’re purchasing your truck at, a lot of these could sink even the most successful person. Also, get at least a few “bindable” quotes for insurance before pulling the trigger, insurance for year 1 in CA is ridiculous. My year 1 insurance varied between $33K-$40K. In year 2, that dropped to $13K.
      👊🏻🍻

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Appreciate the sub, I will definitely try. My only hesitation is I typically try to not make long content (>10 minutes) and the in order for this video do be done properly might be 1 hour minimum.
      In the meantime, I do have a playlist on my channel which showcases other content creators which I used when setting up my trucking business, I believe I called it “intro to trucking”. These are the exact videos I used to learn about “authority” and how to set it up yourself. There’s one video in there (I believe from truckers authority) that is over an hour but if you follow along with it step by step, that hour will save you at least $1500 in paying a service to do it for you.
      How I made this money was all with Amazon. I should point out that as of April 2023, they now require anyone who works with them to have “active authority” for 180 days before you can start. If you’d like a more recent video, I broke down a night here:
      czcams.com/video/09mILrXdIh8/video.htmlsi=Or_Vf9c-DY9SBbwy
      Definitely down to make a checklist video of all the steps in order to get running, but to go through each step would be exceptionally lengthy and I couldn’t do it better than what has already been done. If you’re interested, that authority video is in that playlist or you can view it here:
      czcams.com/video/ihqia3gfzzY/video.htmlsi=rCt66OxazO1bcBy9
      If you have any questions about specific steps, just reach out to me, I’ll always respond. Gonna let the checklist video simmer in my mind for a bit. 👊🏻🍻

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před měsícem

      Historically, Amazon has been notorious for “blocking out” way too much time for the load to be completed. What they are blocking out 1:28 for really only takes 10-20 minutes depending on how many trucks are in line at both facilities.
      During the load, you are prevented from booking a load that falls within the blocked out time but as soon as you finish the load, you are free to book whatever you want.
      Say I book a 1:28 load at 3:00AM and they list another that starts at 4:00AM. During the load, I can’t book the 4:00AM because they have me booked out until 4:28AM, but as soon as I finish the 3:00AM load (≈3:15AM), I can now book the 4:00AM load no problem.

    How much is insurance? Did you say it is $40k or $32k the first year?

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před 3 měsíci

      Yes, it went like this for me:
      First policy - $40K/year
      Despite perfect driving record I was considered high risk because I was new CDL and new authority
      That was through a company called BiBERK, they were the only company at the time who was willing to cover me. Two months into that policy, I found another company who would cover me for $32K/year, I kept that policy for the remaining 10 months, it was through a company called Redwood. 32 was still outrageous, but I was content to be saving $8K/year.
      Year two is when “the magic” happened. I became eligible for Progressive and my policy dropped to $13K/year. Getting ready to renew for year three at the end of this month, going down to $11K/year😁
      If you’re in California, insurance is literally a make or break for a lot of people, it almost broke me.
      If you’ve seen any of my other content, you know I’m personally against using services and I like figuring out how to do all this “stuff” on my own. Insurance has been my one exception because today, if I call Progressive on my own, even though I’m existing customer, they quote me $15K for my year three policy whereas through my insurance broker, I’m getting the same policy for $11K. I have zero idea how they do that but clearly will use a “service” if it saves me money.
      If you are shopping around (and I would encourage you to do so), be weary of bad advice. Everyone told me to go with Progressive in year one, the problem being in 2022, Progressive DID NOT cover new authority in California. This could have changed. I can’t tell you how many people told me to just go with Progressive.

    • @STATTrucking

      Yes, weekends (and nights) are when I do the bulk of my work. I’ve always been a “night person” and prefer to drive when there’s less traffic. The bonus I’ve found is that during these times (nights/weekends), the loads pay better too. 👊🏻🍻

  • @Diego.p
    @Diego.p Před rokem

    How much money a week can a team driver do?

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před rokem

      Team loads are something I have zero experience with because I always filter them out of my searches. My opinion on them through Amazon is:
      ☝️They’re not great, I just searched for them around this area and they’re all between $1.50-$2.00/mile going far distances (Texas, Illinois)
      ✌️because they require a team, the loads are outside of the niche that Amazon has with local loads. Amazon pays a lot to move stuff around town but has historically been on the low end when it comes to moving the same loads further distances.
      What has worked for me over this last year is to pick up 3-4 local loads/day rather than 1 big OTR trip. It has allowed me to end up in virtually the same market everyday, and not left me scrambling for a potentially low paying back-haul. I know Amazon is different in every area, but for where I’m located at, the money is in staying local. 👊🏻🍻

  • @roberttrevino5205
    @roberttrevino5205 Před 11 měsíci

    Hello, how did you book all local loads?

    • @STATTrucking
      @STATTrucking  Před 11 měsíci +2

      I use search filters on the load board, specifically the max miles filter. If I’m looking to stay in San Diego I’ll keep max miles around 100, if I’m willing to go to LA/Ontario, I’ll bump max miles up to 200-250. You have to account for the round trip to some of these places, for example:
      Otay ➡️ Poway = 41 miles
      If you wanted this load you have to search for 82 miles because
      Otay➡️Poway➡️Otay =82 miles
      I book all my own stuff and don’t use a dispatcher. 👊🏻🍻

      @omarg92 I’m happy to make a load board video for you, just let me know where you want it centered.
      I recently started a new “series” on the channel where I go through the load board and “show you what I see”. I called it Relay Rates, I believe there are four of them and will continue to turn out 1/week minimum. All of them are centered around SoCal.
      Amazon is notorious for constantly changing. Sometimes there are loads to Fresno, other times they go to Ontario then to Tracy.
      I get a lot of Spot Capacity out of Fresno, seems like a good market.

      @STATTrucking  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Sure, I’ll make a load board video for you. Which city and which equipment (box truck/semi) are you looking for? I will say, I believe load board vids to be ineffective at predicting how a market behaves. A better indicator would be going to Google maps, hovering over your city, and searching “AMAZON WAREHOUSE”. The problem with a load board video is, it’s a 60 second glimpse into something you have to pay attention to for much longer than that.
      Say I catch it when it’s fantastic, it’s not like that all day
      Say I catch it when it’s terrible, it’s also not like that all day
      I tried to explain it here:
      czcams.com/video/C5b2cJPBDcc/video.htmlsi=gzyIT6x-CyQe-XRd
      I am happy to do it for you, I’d just hate for you to leave the experience with a false positive/negative. FYI, the week I strung together in this video involved approx 40 hours of load board watching, that may sound excessive but it is my version of working smarter, not harder. I include this because I definitely don’t want to misrepresent the work involved.

      Is every night great? No, but at least 3/7 nights are pretty good in the SoCal market. Also, don’t forget about spot capacity emails (not grade dependent), these offers are the best the market has to offer and are negotiable.

      @@STATTrucking do you mind saying how much you pay for insurance?

      @wisdomandlove1661 Not at all. I’m currently halfway into year two and have had three policies.
      1. BiBERK-$40K/year. I had this policy when I first started, they were the only insurance that would cover at first because I was high risk (new authority AND new CDL). I had it for the first two months.
      2. Redwood-$33K/year. I found this company a couple months in and kept it from month 3-12. Both BiBERK and Redwood were subsidiaries of Berkshire Hathaway.
      3. Progressive-$13K/year. Month 13-current. After proving myself a little, my costs went down a lot.
      On top of these, I’m also required to carry a general liability policy which is about $500/year and I’m assuming will always be around $500/year, regardless of my experience.
