    For the horizontal timeline thing, you actually get more of the timeline on the screen at a time with a 4k monitor than a 1440p ultra wide. 3840 > 3440. Depending on your UI scaling I guess.

  • @FlameRat_YehLon
    @FlameRat_YehLon Před 8 lety +1

    But for most people, maybe dual 1080p is a lot cheaper and still capable of quite a few jobs?
    For web browsing, just one window each monitor; for video editing, use one monitor solely for the timeline and another for everything else; for photo editing, place everything other than the photo on the second monitor; for gaming, monitor 1 for the game and monitor 2 for game guides XD
    Just my personal experience though... By the way, 4 1080p monitors seems to be cheaper than a 4k.

  • @AndroidVageta1
    @AndroidVageta1 Před 8 lety +1

    Ultrawides still have a low DPI issue. Even the 1440p 34 inch ones look like 24 inch 1080p monitors to me.
    Nay, what I do is use ultrawide resolutions on my 4k monitor. I usually play games at 3840x1440 or even 3840x1080. If you don't mind the black bars on the top and bottom (which you forget about when you start playing games) it's freakin awesome.

    Ultrawide for everything is way better ... And the 3440x1440 to 4K it isn't such a big difference .... Gaming also on 21:9 is way better on every type of games Shooter , Racing games , and YEAH 3rd person and MMO games that we can see more world from up side . • @Vandragorax

    Your three main uses, web browsing, video, and photo editing... obviously benefit more from a 4K 16:9 screen since you simply get more pixels, higher PPI so crisper images, and more screen real estate.
    My main uses for my computer are gaming, and watching movies.... so obviously my 21:9 3440x1440 @ 100hz benefits those things more due to cinema-equivalent 2.35:1 aspect looking amazing on it with no black bars, having a wider aspect ratio for games which is incredible, and better refresh rate than what is currently available on 4K screens.
    So clearly it depends entirely on what you're using the computer for as to what you should go for. I think you made a great choice based on your usage, but for me I will definitely stick to my ultra-wide :)

  • @admirdu
    @admirdu Před 8 lety +1

    There are so many wrong things here.
    First of all you are comparing aspect ratio vs resolution.
    Comparing different sizes of monitors.
    Comparing monitors with different pixel counts (8294400 vs 4953600).
    You will still have more editing space for videos on 4k monitor because of higher horizontal resolution (aspect ratio doesnt matter but the number of pixels)
    Try comparing 32" 21:9 (3440x1440) vs 32" 16:9 (2560x1440)
    Or by pixels 3440x1400 vs 2944x1656
    Few more downsides are that 16:9 32" or up are just too large for desktops (category of tv's) while 21:9 can easily go 34" or more
    Also 3440x1440 is much more easier on graphic card than 4k and still better than FHD
    You could compare 2160p 21:9 vs 16:9 2160p when some monster of a graphic card comes that could handle it
    Anyway you could just say bigger resolution is better

    are there any 21:9 (5120x2160) monitors on the market? 4k is all about pixel dencity imho. so combining the 21:9 ratio and/or curvature cuz there are curved 21:9 screens with the pixel density of a 4k monitor should be a gold zone for enthusiasts.

    gaming is definitely better on ultra wide because of that extra peripheral vision (FOV 120 instead of 90), it doesn't matter what type of game you're playing it's better, its also not as taxing as 4K which displays 8,294,400 pixels compared to 4,953,600, it's definitely something you have to consider but more importantly make sure your monitor has an IPS panel and g-sync(NVIDIA) or freesync(Radeon) seriously gaming's much better with g-sync or freesync because even when you have low FPS it's barely noticeable, its a much smoother experience

    • @apocalypznow

  • @kallamamran
    @kallamamran Před 7 lety +1

    I prefer 35" 21:9 2560x1080 because I'm used to working with the pixel density of 1920x1080 on a 27" screen and 2560x1080 on 35" gives me roughly the same density. It also gives me much better headroom for getting great FPS with awesome graphics settings in games. When comparing 2560x1080 (21:9) to 2560x1440 (+25%), 3440x1440 (+45%), 3840x2160 (+67%) and 4096x2160 (+69%) I don't think the extra pixels gives me anything I really need while the extra FPS I can get from 2560x1080 does.

    I have an ASUS ROG Swift PG348Q (UWQHD) as my main monitor and ASUS ROG Swift PG27AQ (4K) as my secondary. I tested them both for gaming, and although the PG34 is pretty "valuable" at 1300€, it is the best investment I've ever made in regards of gaming. It's an absolute blast.
    The monitor has G-Sync, 60-100Hz, ISP Curved Panel, 34 inches and 3440 x 1440 (21:9) resolution, which is the absolute best for gaming. Why? I tell you.
    I tested them both, and the image on both monitors is almost the same, maybe even better on the ultrawide. Resolutionwise you can only see a difference when you turn down Anti Aliasing in games.
    Now the huuuge pros for the Ultrawide:
    -> Much, much wider view, bigger image, more immersion!
    -> ~20% more performance on the ultrawide! You can have a bigger and just as good image on the ultrawide as the 4K, with an even better refreshrate!
    Of course I could tell you over and over again how much "better" (it's pretty objective) Ultrawide is, but you really have to see it yourself, it's an experience, like the jump from 4:3 to 16:10/16:9! I personally can't wait for what's to come in the future, more and more games that come out now and came out this year already support 21:9, so don't be afraid of black bars, it's worth it!

    • @RoadRunner217
      @RoadRunner217 Před 7 lety

      ***** What are you talking about... there's no confusion about any of this, and we weren't comparing resolution with aspect ratio. o.0
      And you can't "hack registry" in order to get rid of black bars. You have to manipulate some INI files and even that sometimes doesn't work the way it's meant to be. However there's always a tool called "flawless widescreen".
      Sooo yeah... what the hell?

    I'm loving my LG 1440 ultrawide panel, I was wondering whether 4k screens support running in a letterbox mode that doesn't squash the content so that games can run natively in 21:9 and have the benefit of more viewing angle etc? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a 1440 ultrawide is basically a 4k with the top and bottom cut off? I'm still going to keep my ultrawide because the vertical real estate actually really irritates me, getting at menu bars and closing / minimising windows become a bit of a chore. another advantage for me (but not for everyone) is that I find the ultrawides are much less impactful on the feel of the room, the height of 4k monitors in 16:9 in a big enough size that's going to make any sense at that resolution just looks a bit clumsy and demands attention from the whole room. Great video though, I will be interested to see whether you switch back to 21:9 when the features catch up with conventional panels.

    Gaming in 4K or Ultra wide depends on the game, just like you said.
    But it's not just the form factor.
    Responce time in milliseconds (ms): How fast can it change from black to white and back to black.
    Or as currently commonly known GtG (Grey to Grey). The lower this number the better it is for fast paced games.
    Refresh rate in Hertz (Hz): Every gamer want to reach that magical number of 60Hz, or 60 FPS (Frames Per Second) and higher. All to ensure a smooth gameplay.
    Syncronize: In order to prevent 'screen tearing' where the refresh rate of the Graphics card exceed the monitor, you get a broken line in your view. To fight this, many gaming monitors have either G-sync or AMD-freesync. so the monitor and GPU communicate with each other to match the framerate.
    Needles to say, but G-sync only works with NVidea cards and Freesync on AMD cards :P

    I have a setup with a 42" AH-IPS with two 34" 21:9 monitors on either side. I use a KVMP (Keyboard, Video, Mouse, Printer) switch to alternate between my work PC and my gaming PC. For productivity stuff, I love 4k. Eve if it’s just browsing windows, or going huge with a mega excel spread sheet. For gaming, I really think I like Ultrawide. I have a 6700k Dual GeForce 1080SLI that can actually drive my Ultra 4k, but I’m noticing that I start to get motion sick if I sit less than 2ft from my 4k monitor.
    (Which I do for desktop stuff all day long). ALso, my neck does get a
    bit sore from looking up at the angle to take in the top 20% of the 4k screen. I visit a chiropractor about once a week because my neck is getting all jacked up from my multi-monitor setup if I stare off at the three-o'clock position for 2 hours because I’m multitasking in my right screen. For as rarely as I use the top 20% of the 4k screen for production stuff (I tend to keep it within my natural peripheral vision), I think that an UltraWide would be the ideal if your are looking at a comparison to a 42" 4k. Now... if you are thinking about a 29", 32" or 35" 4k, I suspect it’s a different argument. But, the pixel size starts to get rather tiny for desktop stuff at that point. 42" 4K is the sweet spot for size and imagery.

    I am not sure you are right about the shooter style of gaming. With a 21:9 monitor you would have a wider field of view but this would reduce your reaction time due to having to process more information before making a decision. I think that mmorpg's, slower paced games and simulators benefit more from the immersive experience of 21:9

    @renesandoval1454 Před 8 lety

    @MS Tech....you are right that 4k is the future however in the present 21:9 is the way to go for these reasons:
    1. Movie watching will look a lot better on 21:9 on widescreen movies which almost every movie that has come out is in.
    2. 4k is still a novelty and especially on a screen smaller than 30" you wont be able to tell the difference from a 1080p.
    3. 4k is constantly improving due to new standards such as HDR and HDMI 2.0 so most current 4k monitors cant handle both those specs.
    4. For gaming 4k is currently unsupported by graphics cards, good luck getting 30 fps on 3840x2160.
    5. Newer games are coming out instead in 21:9 such as league of legends which allows wider views which 4k cant address.
    6. 4k displays tend to be more expensive than 21:9 screens.

    i'd only consider 4K (1) if I used a mac for my work (they handle font scaling better) and (2) if ultrawide didn't exist.. I'm sure there's a use case for 4K, but whatever it is - i don't use it

    I don't know why we can't have a 4k ultra wide already, I have a 4k tv that is setup for a high end htpc. I absolutely LOVE it, the crispness is hard to explain if you just haven't seen it. At the same time I have a Asus i7 laptop with a nvidia 1060 in it, I have a 21:9 monitor hooked up to it, and I really like it, but with a 34 inch screen it's really starting to show the pixels. Smaller screens you probably wouldn't notice, but with ultra wides you really need a VERY large screen or the height of the monitor looks really small.

    I just got an ultra wide monitor. Acer predator X34. And I freaking love it. I don't do any editing of any kind but do, do a lot of web browsing, youtube/netflix, and gaming. Right now, I mostly play MMOs like world of warcraft and star wars the old republic and also playing a bit of star wars battlefront and the newer tomb raider games. I don't think the genre of the game matters at all - on an ultra wide aspect ratio, FPS, MMO, whatever it doesn't matter - it is too awesome, it can't be beat. However, some games don't work perfectly well at that aspect ratio, or even at all, in which case obviously id rather have a 16:9 monitor. But, outside of SWTOR, all the games I listed above work flawlessly ultra wide. The extra horizontal, perifial real estate, without bezels is amazin. And 4k monitors can't do above 60 fps right now, plus pretty much every single card solution out there right now will only get you 45 to 50 fps anyway.

    • @brantchristopfel2130
      @brantchristopfel2130 Před 8 lety

      by "every single card solution" i mean the very best single graphics card will only get you those amount of FPS with settings turned all the way up, on the most graphically demanding games today.

    I'm using a 42" UHD TV as a monitor. Give me the higher res any day. Aspect ratio isn't that important to me as long as it's a reasonable ratio. Besides, that UHD monitor can be turned into an ultra wide simply by masking the top and bottom of the display.

    • @weirjwerijrweurhuewhr588
      @weirjwerijrweurhuewhr588 Před 8 lety +1

    • @kobayashimaru8114
      @kobayashimaru8114 Před 8 lety

      That's true. But at the size of display I'm talking about the 16:9 display encompasses the 21:9 display. So I will take the greater number of pixels if the price is similar. In your scenario, you would be getting a smaller display by adding pillars on the left and right.

    • @weirjwerijrweurhuewhr588
      @weirjwerijrweurhuewhr588 Před 8 lety

      Kobayashi Maru True. Depends on the price though, and right now, ultrawide monitors are relatively more expensive than 16:9 monitors, so you are correct :-)!
