    For those who are concerned with the squeal, I suggest you purchase a guitar from Schecter that already has a Sustainiac in it. I recently bought one and there is no squeal at all. For those who want to put the pickup in theirselves, you can probably fool with the controls on the Sustaniac driver board so it is not as sensitive which should reduce, if not eliminate the squeal.

    There r SO many shredders from the 80's and early '90's that used the ACTUAL sustainiac, and yes Brad Gillis and George Lynch were among the very first. Tony MacAlpine used it on studio recordings, I even think Nuno Bettencort used one on the beginning solo on He-Man Woman Hater from Pornograffiti. So the list goes on. Btw, I remember my brother and I thumbing through a guitar magazine as kids about 1987 or 88 (during the heyday of the guitar shredder gods) and finding the little black plastic sample record that would come inside the magazine back then. This time it was for the SUSTAINIAC! And all the rage and rave back then was about George Lynch using it! Remember this was about 1987. Gates is good, but way before his time...

    You are mostly correct. It takes the string vibration from the bridge pickup and amplifies it and puts it back out through the sustaniac. You do need to have the strings muted but only when you pluck the note. The electromagnetic field created only lets the dominant note ring so you don't really have to try to mute it but it helps a little

    I don't know how the sustaining works but it seems to me that the sustaining produces an electro magnetic field that causes all strings to ring unless muted. Then the pickups on the guitar that are selected pick up the vibrations of the string in the usual manner, save for the lack of decay.

    Does Sustainiac have a website I can buy this pickup from, I like Schecter Guitars but I really don't want to have to buy a certain guitar only for a single component, and while I actually am going to buy a Sustainiac installed Schecter in the next couple months (2-3 at most) at the moment I just need a Sustainiac; In taking my first guitar, that was only $60, a red Spectrum AIL95RD, and turning into a proffesional guitar. At first it was supposed to be a backup guitar I could take to gigs and/or other places I wouldn't want to take my regular guitar, but now it seems like when Im done with it it'll be the better guitar, so that plan is out of the question, even if I didn't mess with it apart from only istalling a Sustainiac, I still probably wouldn't want to throw it around after that
    also does anybody know how much this thing cost if you get it from the official website as opposed to other places

    The middle switch, which I think is the mix mode isn’t making any noise anymore. It just acts like the sustain switch. The harmonic switch still works though. You think the guitar’s battery might be the problem?

    • @korbanoMUSIC
      @korbanoMUSIC  Před 6 lety

      Larry Holden
      Hmm... if the harmonic switch still works then the battery isn’t completely dead. Maybe the mix mode uses more power than the harmonic mode so it won’t do it so you might want to try to replace the battery. Also try playing different notes. The sustainiac works better with some notes than others. How loud is your amp? Is it possible that the battery is completely dead and you’re hearing regular amp feedback and not the harmonic mode? If none of those work, you might want to check your wiring to make sure none of the wires came loose especially on the switch.

  • @korbanoMUSIC

    No they did not. I think you can pay like a hundred dollars extra for a "drop in" kit meaning all the wires are already connected and all you have to do is put in the pickup and switches. Honestly, it's not very hard to install. I am 15 and I installed this myself. If you know how to soldier then you should be fine. It's not hard, there's just A LOT of wires but it's worth it. Tools needed: Screw driver, drill, soldiering iron, and soldier

      Vixen Vendetta the bridge pickup can be anything. But if it’s active, then you need 2 batteries (one for the active pickup and one for the sustainiac). And if the battery dies in the bridge pickup, the sustainiac won’t work since it uses the input from the bridge pickup

    I have a question. I planning on buying a guitar with an EMG 85/81 configuration and a Sustainiac at the neck. So, the neck pickup (EMG 85) is essentially a single coil pickup with the sustainiac turned off, right? Won't that effect my tone while using the neck pickup? Aren't single coils noisy?

    • @korbanoMUSIC
      @korbanoMUSIC  Před 7 lety

      The EMG 85/81 pickups are both active double coil pickups. The Sustainiac completely replaces the neck pickup so you would only be able to have the EMG as the bridge pickup. If you flip you pickup selector to the Sustainiac then it will use the Sustainic like a single coil and won't use the EMGs at all.

    Hi. Simple question. The driver, when its of, its actually a humbucker right?

    • @korbanoMUSIC
      @korbanoMUSIC  Před 10 lety

      It is a single coil pickup and i believe it is active

    • @fadhilqayyum
      @fadhilqayyum Před 10 lety

      Ohh thanks. But as in www.sustainiac.com "When the Sustainiac is OFF, the Sustainiac driver is used as an active pickup. The sustainer circuit now amplifies the tiny driver pickup signal to a useable level. Pickup equalization is is done on the circuit board. Two wires are provided to allow switching between single-coil (SC) and humbucker (HB) sound." But i just wanna ask you as you have this pick-up. Does it really can gives that humbucker sound?

    • @korbanoMUSIC

    I wonder if that hight picth squel would go away had a pro installed the pickup., Not downing your ability, just saying maybe theres a hack to prvent that or something, Theres a song we do where I have Fought to get sustain feedback almost everytime we do it,Ive used 5 diff guitars, High gain, low gain, Outdoors,indoors, Just a luck oif the draw wether or not I will get it right at that point in the song where I need it. .... However, this lil gadget would illiminate that issue. But 250? ouch

    what do you think is more worth it just buy this pickups and put them on my guitar or just buy a schecter 7 string with a sustainiac??

    • @korbanoMUSIC
      @korbanoMUSIC  Před 4 lety +1

      I highly recommend buying a schecter with it built in. If you do it yourself, you will either have to mill out a new cavity to put a battery holder or just put the battery sitting loose inside the main compartment. If you buy it from schecter, they install the battery holder for you and their wiring is much cleaner.

    Have you used effects pedals to add a different sound to the Sustaniac? Will it work using pedals.

    • @korbanoMUSIC
      @korbanoMUSIC  Před 4 lety

      It absolutely works with effects petals. I usually use it with a delay effect which sounds really cool but of course you can use any petal

    • @korbanoMUSIC
      @korbanoMUSIC  Před 9 lety +1

      It's a Jackson Rhoads and it did not come with it, I put it in myself. If you would like to purchase a guitar with it built in already I suggest one of the Schecters that come with it. Plus when you buy a guitar with it built in it's only $200 extra whereas it's $250 to do it yourself
