- I get quite a few questions about the differences between the Sustainiac Stealth Pro and the Fernandes Sustainer, so I thought I'd put the two of them together in a head to head! This first part shows the components of each kit and the install of the Fernandes Sustainer.
Both units are fitted into Kramer Pacer Classics.
Both guitars have been upgraded with Seymour Duncan TB4 bridge humbuckers.
We are waiting for parts 2!!
You can remove the pins from the connector by pushing the tab with a small screwdriver. Push the wire through the existing hole then push the pins back into the connector.
Having owned 2 guitars with a Sustainiac I know and loved both. Knowing Steve Vai uses a Fernandez Sustainer and having seen him play with it I have ni doubt it works and sounds great. That being said, that large circuit board that comes with the Fernandez I would have to go with the Sustainiac system. Knowing how beautifully it works as well is the other reason I vote for the Sustainiac.
Thank you for your video. Bravo mate.
yea that whole bit about drilling the holes bigger to accommodate for the connector I was shocked!! And then when I saw that he drilled a 12mm hole in a place that didn't need to be drilled just to make it through the other side!! WOW!! bro I can see you haven't done much with electronics, but that just boggled my mind after that... but you got some balls for the router job.. I had to rout my Kahler into the body of my ESP NV and that was a little scary but it came out very nice. I had a guy that worked at ESP in LA that told me about the ESP NV guitars that there is a flaw in the necks and I did the only thing possible to get the action down you can check out some of my videos with my ESP NV Standard. nice work Pablo..
Great video, thank you. But what happened to the comparison of sounds and features?
The best review I've seen about anything on youtube ever, well done, very helpful, many thanks.
in reference to the large connector, with care the pins can be extracted from the housing and reinstalled after the cable is routed. again WITH CARE!
Attention newcomers!
Part 2 isn’t out yet
Where is part 2?
I watched all the way through part 1, Wich was fun, but now where's part 2?
Yes, this

The switches can be desoldered from the board and wired to where you want them. A circuit board is not holy scripture carved in stone! :D
Please make part 2!
You could cut off the connector and resolder after running it through the body, to avoid drilling.
there is an easy way to disassemble fernandes sustainer driver pickup connector in order to put wire through a little hole in guitar. just take needle and push tongues that lock contacts in a white plastic housing of a connector. it easily assembles back again! just put wires in a same order as before.
Yeah. Just completely stupid to drill holes when you can dettach the connector.
On the Fernandes you can take Photos of the Plug then use a small Sewing Needle or Straight Pin carefully push the clip connector for each wire and gently slide them out of the white connector, then tape a piece of paper towel around the 3 wires with piece of masking tape push it through and then re-insert the wires into the quick connector plug...
Installed these on PRS and Gibson Les Pauls that way no problem....
You should go into business installing these!
Dang where's part 2? Thanks for showing what you did though
Great work, thanks for sharing this with us!
Enjoying the video so far but around the 4 minute mark you said Fernandez doesn't have a 7 string sustainer. I own a Fernandez 7 string sustainer.
I wish you had shown how you adjust the Fernandez sustainer trim pots. I have a Gibson Neal Schon, and my "high octave" mode "squeals.
Might not want to do it but, with the Fernandez you could unsolder the switches, then put the switches where you want them, and run wires to wherever the board gets mounted. Not sure if this will affect the noise picked up by the regeneration circuit though (call Fernandez).
I can already see, that the sustaniac board is made of SMD components which are less desirable for tone quality, and doesn't have the small transformer, which the Fernandes has. A transformer is always a better option and has a good impact on the tone. Also the Sustaniac has 3 adjusting pots, and a 2 way mode switch, so less tweak ability then the Fernandez whit its 4 adjusting trim pots and 3 way mode switch. (one is for blending the overtones with the base note.)
It is obvious that the Fernandes is a better quality, and better designed engineering piece.
While your opinion is of course valid, engineering is seldom obvious; I'd encourage anyone to compare these units directly. The Sustainiacs are US made by a real pro and come in a 7 string spacing, and their electro acoustic sustainer is a ball to play with, being a clamp on headstock unit with no modding required.
Thanks, much. Exactly what I was looking for.
where do you buy the sustainiac kit?
You can take that connector apart you know.
I was thinking that all across the video "no, do not drill, yo can take the conn... oooh no, you did it :("
What happened to this guy? this is his last video from 3 years ago and he never uploaded part 2
I cannot fathom out why you just did not cut the connector off and rejoin it again instead of drilling the holes bigger.
Question.
I too have installed a sustainiac into a Kramer Pacer classic. I love the sustainiac and it works great. However when using the driver as a neck PUP, it squeals (microphonics) like crazy at stage volume with gain.
Have you come across this issue?
Please upload part 2 if its working.
Is there a Sustainic or Fernandez Sustainer that fits in the space of a single coil?
Yes!
@@thisperfectworld Where can I buy it? Are they still available new? I'm in the UK btw.
if youre using the fernandes kit and a bridge pickup other then the one provided, where would you soler the wires to on the circuit board? i have the FSK-401 kit and and struggling as the provided pickup is part of the solderless system.
Cheers
So you show us how you put screws in the back plate but not how you routed out the new hole for the sustainer???
I’m still thinking about having one of these installed, I have a js1000, could I install the single coil version of the sustainiac and have a single coil pickup (Satch track) next to it in the neck?
You could have removed the toggle switches from the board and mounted them where you originally wanted them. Then, reconnect them using screened wiring. Mounting the control board on stand offs to clear the pots 🤷♂️
Which company paid for you to never do a part 2?
“Soon, Part 2, you must make...hummmm?

Does anyone have the actual wiring diagram of a schecter platinum 1 Sustainiac ...mine got jacked up and have wires all over the place...I miss the amazing sounds I could get off This guitar I had no idea that it had that feature...
Well, don't look for Part 2...it doesn't exist.
wow you had to make your Pacer a semi hollow body! You know those connectors are easy to clip and resolder right? Or backfill the hole with epoxy...
Very clean nice install.
could you fit a single coil in place of the empty space of the pickup body? and if you did would it screw up the sustainer effect????? I would hate to lose the neck pickup all together for this mod!
I know this is late, but on their website i read that you cannot do that because the noise would be far too great and cancel out your tone
hi may i know which one is better fernandes or stealth pro? any recommend ?
I have both systems in different guitars. Sustainiac is far more consistent sustaining all notes on the fretboard, even power chords.
With fernandes sustainer the sustain is not as strong as the sustainiac. There was some hit and miss, some notes on the fretboard can't be sustained. Maybe because that guitar uses EMG 81 and not fernandes Bridge humbucker.
After all of that hard work, when will the battle commence ? Prior to a sound-check, the Sustainiac seems like a far better proposition.
Peter Cooper very soon! We’ve had a bit of a delay and a full reshoot to get a good battle on film. Hopefully it should be edited and up in a few weeks! 😃
@@pablojonesy Would still really like to see this!
@@pablojonesy A several years have passed... We are still waiting for a battle! LOL
Hi there
Where's PT 2 video
hey man can you give me a link on where to purchase the sustainiac?? I cant seem to find it
No part 2 man
I've had a Sustainer for about 10 years. Use it sometimes for textures on my recordings. I love having it, but it seems to have gone weak. I tried every adjustment but it doesn't seem to sing like it used to. Is that a known thing. Any ideas what to try? Thanks!
I never had that issue and I have three Fernandez guitars with them one is a vortex elite made in Japan it also has a EMG 81 in the bridge and the battery does it need to be changed hardly ever but I hear the Sustainiac only last about two hours And there is the One other mode that combines the two modes Other than that I don’t see any difference in the two…
My sustaniac is as old and works great... I had him install it in a Roland G202 for use with my GR300 as well... LOVE that system
fernandes is way superior
holycrap that was a Lot of work, & it aint even done!! You had to drill into the back of your guitar & take a HUGE chunk out for the board, wow
Привет! Где покупал ? Сколько стоит ?
So crasy
longest guitar battle eva
I bought a Sustainiac 8 months ago,... they don't have all wiring diagrams, you have to guess how to install, didn't installed properly till today,.. don't work, probably something burned out,.. seems to be impossible, poor documentation, the owner don't answer anymore, the site is a mess, lost money on it, do not recommended.
Part 2 got stuck in the hole I guess....
wtf ? where is pt 2 ? also all that drilling where ya coulda cut the connector off , thread the wires then solder!!
*And then he died...*
😂😂😂😂
This is what happens when honest people don't get paid from CZcams and realize making videos is a waist of time
I hope there is a good reason you didn't upload part 2... what a waste of my time.
I suppose if you’re too feeble to remove wires from a simple four pin connector then you probably couldn’t figure out how to snip and solder a few wires back together. Hack.
Tony McClelland he only has 1 hand, cut him some slack!
Fernandes all the way
Dude are you serious FD looks like a pain in the ass dude.
No. Just no. If you're guitar came with a Fernandes, that's just fine. If you are retro-fitting a guitar, the Fernandes is nearly impossible, without major routing and surgery of your guitar. The Sustainiac is designed to fit, in virtually any guitar, in its stock configuration, no routing. They both work very similarly, and IMO, one isn't better than the other. Aftermarket install? Sustainiac all the way.
Someone stole part 2 damn Google *&*^&
where the hell is part 2?
Where is part 2?
