I was a very very close victim of a phone scam like this years ago. It's terrifying the tactics these people use. (scammers and fraud agents, not to be taken as a racial thing) its a lesson learned unfortunately and it only makes the world a less trustable place. I never answer my phone by name and always ask who is calling, why they are calling, and I never ever give any information over the phone.

You’re a hero. One of these monsters tried to scam my disabled mom when we stayed at a homeless shelter with my little brothers. The only reason it didn’t work was because my mom’s card wasn’t connected to anything and she couldn’t pay the amount they asked for. They got very angry at her, but I didn’t understand why back then; now I know it’s because they thought she baited them(even though she didn’t). *Yes, we had a laptop. We left our home to escape her abusive husband and brought it with us for online schooling. Wanted to add it before I’m accused of lying. It’s a common misconception that all homeless people don’t have jobs and aren’t making an effort.

If I have time I keep them on the phone as long as possible and waste their time.

I love messing with them, I get calls about my auto-loan (I do not own a car, nor do I have any loans for one) or about my cars warranty expiring almost daily. I usually just hang up, but sometimes when I am having a particularly bad day or feel frustraated, I like to take it out on them.

You’re a hero. One of these monsters tried to scam my disabled mom when we stayed at a homeless shelter with my little brothers. The only reason it didn’t work was because my mom’s card wasn’t connected to anything and she couldn’t pay the amount they asked for. They got very angry at her, but I didn’t understand why back then; now I know it’s because they thought she baited them(even though she didn’t).
*Yes, we had a laptop. We left our home to escape her abusive husband and brought it with us for online schooling. Wanted to add it before I’m accused of lying. It’s a common misconception that all homeless people don’t have jobs and aren’t making an effort.
You should've have to justify this. People in this country don't understand poverty and think it's a moral failing. The economic system is absolutely disgusting that it leads to homelessness in the first place.
I pray that your family is in a safe and happy place now. These scammers are disgusting. It’s awful that they try to prey upon the elderly and disabled in particular. I have a son with cerebral palsy and quadraparesis, a feeding tube, insulin pump, epilepsy, and many other diagnoses...thankfully he is only 13 and lives under our protection. We have had so many of these calls, and I must answer every one, because we have so many medical supply companies and specialists he sees, as well as physical therapists, etc,. If I have time I keep them on the phone as long as possible and waste their time.
