When they chose this song to do, Most of the guys started practicing runs. Lay asked Geoff why he wasn’t, and Geoff said he didn’t think he would be doing any runs. Layne told him to practice! (Layne frequently pushes Geoff to do things he didn’t plan on)
Discombobulated Mortius is one of my favorite entertainments. 🤣 Eli: riffs J.: riffs Geoff: I can do that ... from down here. There's an adorable clip Geoff shared of him practicing this song in the front seat while Kathy is driving, and their little boy singing along in the backseat. He was young enough his car seat still faced backwards but he's singing with Daddy.
"Oh , I miss him." Cut to Mason with a confused expression* 🤣 just the best! Hey Mortius, on behalf of all your fans and I, tell Mason he does a fantastic job, will you please? His editions make the videos that much more amazing! I have been waiting for this reaction for so long and it is just what a I thought it would be and more!
The only thing better than an amazing Voiceplay cover is watching Mortius lose it while reacting to the cover. Lol. Great reaction as always and, Mason, the confetti was a great touch. Lol
If you've heard Chris Stapleton's recording of this song then you'll know why they're doing the runs. :) They are an integral part of the song. This was the first thing I heard from VoicePlay and as you can imagine I was blown away. The harmonies, the smoothness, and yes, Geoff. :) I've never looked back.
The individual runs were amazing, and yes, J None was showing off, but the bass run! Basses don't do that. But THEN the same run in harmony? Unbelievable!! Appreciate your reaction!
Talked to J None recently. He's doing really good. He's got 3 years to go in the Navy choir. Hopefully he'll rejoin Voiceplay. I have 2 recent videos of I In my playlist. One of him singing the National Anthem at a football game. The other he's singing with a navy group/band. Both awesome and beautiful.
Gotta say your constant fancy ties really got me into them as well. In fact I did a trinity knott for a job interview and got complimented by the employer and I got the job! Totally was the tie that got me the job lol. Keep up the awesome work!
This is honestly in my top 5 covers that voiceplay has done, it is just so good. Like those runs omggggg I wish that I could do those kinds of runs with ease. They just amaze me everyday with what they can do with their voices.
This has to be one of their best songs in my opinion. The harmonies, the runs, the vibe, Layne's tasteful percussion, all of it just comes together to create an incredible cover of an incredible song.
You’ll have to be like the reactor Kazandra Brock and her friend Sarah and have “throwable” items in front of you just for these types of reactions!! 😂
After Carry On My Wayward Son I think this is my next favourite. So thanks for your reaction to it. Geoff once said it was a good video for them to do. No costuming or elaborate set- up, only hanging around in a bar, drinking whiskey and singing. Sounds chill to do. And yes, I certainly know your favourite technique by now, think I joined around 3-4 thousand.
This is one of my favourites...not just because it was my first VP songs... I adore the fact that you enjoyed this one too...💗 added to my VP/Geoff/Mortius playlist...so glad you covered this one! 😁
I just looooove your reactions in your videos. You go everywhere, go up and down, left and right, do a little twirl, stomp your feet, etc. It's so funny, I love it.
Mortius and Mason this was wonderful! The only thing I love more than watching Voiceplay is watching YOU watch Voiceplay!! ❤😂❤ Never a disappointment!!
Loved it! Both the song and reaction. Enjoy your nap as it's well deserved. Now I'm not sure which version of you is more intriguing, broken Mortius or discombobulated Mortius. And 4 and a half seconds in was a good sign it could have been both! Great job by all involved as always. Thank you!
Mortius you are just so genuinely you and I love it. You can gauge approximate time of video release by the length of Geoff's hair. Older older stuff he has the short hair. The more recent (last few years) it starts getting longer. And this song is not one that I would generally like but VP has made me a fan.
Not sure if you: a) take suggestions via comments b) want to check out something a bit different BUT even if you just want to explore something new in your free time, I think you would really enjoy some of the stuff by Stellenbosch University Choir. Again, even if you aren't interested in making a video, you might find it enjoyable to watch nonetheless. If not, no worries.
Fantastic job by Voiceplay. Those runs are sick! JNone used a flip o get the high note which made it seem like it was mixed. I would love to have you react to Home Free's new original Understand. The lyrics are lovely and the harmonies and background is right up your alley of expertise. Great reaction again Mortius.
I've enjoyed listening to your commentary. Sadly, we all can't have heard all & everything most current, nor since inception of radio & records. We will have missed great artists in jazz, contemporary, oldies, country, rock'a'billy, Motown, R&B, British invasion, rock & alternative etc. You missed Chris Stapleton. A country songwriter, musician & singer. He's written for many top country artists as well as having several hits on his own singing with top musical artists. Voice Play did a fantastic rendition of his recording. Where Chris was more raw, VP was more smooth & refined but yet did his challenging runs. Elle sounds more like Stapleton, there's still a distinction between VP's collective voices & Stapleton's. I loved both ways. May I strongly suggest you do a reaction to (Chris Stapleton) to hear what others are talking about & why VP did a take on him. Use the reasoning to hear the original & what prompting VP to do it. My suggestion is either the recorded album version with no video, or the Austin City Limits recording of Chris singing this song with his wife doing the background vocals. (There are various videos but I think to get the full gest those 2 are the best.) Additionally, the Austin City Limit performance of "I Was Wrong' is a classic. In a similar way that Stevie Ray Vaughn's Austin City Limit performance of 'Voodoo Child' was breathtaking.
I know it's not in your normal wheelhouse, but you should check out the orignial version of this song by Chris Stapleton!! He has a live version that's incredible, and you'll understand why they're doing those runs!!
”Did i just try to hit two notes at one?” Yes, yes you did, and i have tired the same. And im gonna Say ive Done it cus of subharmonics (It shows your voice as two lines hehe)
If you want some more of crazy J-None I would suggest reacting to their “Thinkin Bout You” cover. It’s one of my personal favorites and is nearly 100% J-None solo
I don’t think I have ever heard this song before but I think it sounds so familiar because it seems like they are all channeling Etta James. I really want to hear them sing “I’d rather go Blind”
Ha do you only remember you told us a million times what your fav thing in music is 🤭maybe a few more than that, you can tell us as many times as you like Mortius😂
Oh dear, Mortius is malfunctioning...again! And who can blame you, those beautiful harmonies and amazing runs are a wonder. Don't hate me, but I'm sorry to say this is one of my least favourite VP covers, it's just not my kind of song. They still all sound fantastic though and your reaction was a joy! 🙂👍
@Mortius, that “who’s doing that”?! on the “always dry” harmony at like 7:55 or so? I’m pretty sure you’re hearing Earl. He has every different feels to his voice depending on where it was pitched and that moment was lower than much of what he does here.
Nope. Cesar is a baritone. He replaced their previous baritone, which was J None. J replaced the earlier baritone Tony. Geoff once made a crack something like that their baritones keep getting younger and if they ever have to replace Cesar that they’d have to recruit a grade schooler. Earl was most certainly not a baritone. 😜 Eli has actually been replacing Earl: he’s been moving higher on average. And I forget which of them said it - I think it was Geoff - that said they could take on either a first or second tenor because Eli can do either role. But…we can love Cesar and still miss J. 🥰
@@Gael4ce Eli is certainly capable of singing both tenor 1 and 2. he is however not a tenor 1, those high notes are very straining on his voice and he would not be able to perform as a tenor 1 during a tour for instance, because it would ruin his voice singing that high that often. a tenor 1 reaches those notes with a lot more ease and would be perfectly fine singing that high night after night. so they would need a tenor 1 to replace Earl, or an alto/soprano. Otherwise they would have to lower the key in their songs, and I don't think Geoff would be happy singing even lower than he already does 🤣🤣
Everyone involved in the making of this reaction video and in the comments section is as smooth as Tennessee Whiskey 🥃💯
Thank you so much J!! I always love having my work appreciated, and hope you can see through my video how much YOUR work is appreciated 😄
J. None!! We miss you~~
Holy crap!
@@chih-chaoyang5290 🤗
J the minute you start that middle part. My heart just starts beating fast and I can't think straight...and I love it! Hope you are doing well!
Mortius: "I have zero expectations."
Fans familiar with this cover: *fetches popcorn*
Yeah I got the mop for clean up .
@@heinz57channel39 🤣🤣🤣

I love this!! I love their friendship so much!!❤
And then they started working with DeeJay Young and it's like: remember all that run practice we did for Tennessee Whiskey?
Discombobulated Mortius is one of my favorite entertainments. 🤣
Eli: riffs
J.: riffs
Geoff: I can do that ... from down here.
There's an adorable clip Geoff shared of him practicing this song in the front seat while Kathy is driving, and their little boy singing along in the backseat. He was young enough his car seat still faced backwards but he's singing with Daddy.
I can’t take the cuteness of this!!!❤
I really need to see this clip!!! Can you please link it?

I'm on the patreon but I still can't wait to see the "Mason edit" version of each reaction
The only thing better than an amazing Voiceplay cover is watching Mortius lose it while reacting to the cover. Lol. Great reaction as always and, Mason, the confetti was a great touch. Lol
Lol I sensed some Kazandra Brock energy in this reaction. Especially the overstimulated object throw!

Exactly!
Yeah, who's going to tell him this is actually one of their truer to original full song arrangements.
The individual runs were amazing, and yes, J None was showing off, but the bass run! Basses don't do that. But THEN the same run in harmony? Unbelievable!!

You want to hear Eli sing lead for a whole song? Waving Through A Window that they did with Kurt Hugo Schneider.
Mortius channelling Kaz' channel🤣🤣🤣. That cracked me up. Poor broken mortius
Exactly what I thought. 🤣🤣🤣

Broken Mortius is the best... telling the audience to shut up and then saying, "That's not how voices work, Mortius!" 😁
Mason your Mortius maybe broken please recalibrate.
13:55 ''Thats not how voices work''
Avi's overtones: hold my beer
It’s crazy to me how Geoff actually sounds like an electric bass on this cover, and he is just nailing it ! 👏🏻
You’ll have to be like the reactor Kazandra Brock and her friend Sarah and have “throwable” items in front of you just for these types of reactions!! 😂
I love that when you react to older songs I get to experience them for the first time all over again :) loved this!
Love Voiceplay's version more than the original version.
This has always been one of my favorite VoicePlay songs and your reaction was hilarious. 😂
A real masterpiece and one of my Voiceplay's favorites. I never know which solo part I love most.
Riffs and runs galore! 😍🔥
One of my all-time VP favs! Also, my fav VP formation, with Earl and J.None!
Mortius you are so endearing when you get discombobulated! We love you! ❤🏴
After Carry On My Wayward Son I think this is my next favourite. So thanks for your reaction to it.

Good job Patreon. This is probably my favourite Voiceplay performance.
I just looooove your reactions in your videos. You go everywhere, go up and down, left and right, do a little twirl, stomp your feet, etc. It's so funny, I love it.
Thank you Mortius for a perfect reaction to a very "smooth" VP production! 😉
Another chaoticly amazing reaction
I said this on Patreon to but the warm rift was out of the original so that's why it happened so often
This is my daughter's favorite song. It is beautiful.
Hi I love your reactions and I especially love it when it’s voiceplay❤

I love your background, and your outfit matches it well.

while all those runs are impressive, geoff`s control on all that bass is godlike

Can tell he has engaged his diaphragm in that high note cominf over the top down into the high half of his chest voice
