Partwork was a series they started when Tony was leaving the group. Since they were a member short, they asked their patrons to vote for songs, and which members to perform them. some of them have just 2 members performing all parts, which resulted in for instance Geoff covering beatboxing, bass and tenor, or Layne covering bass and beatboxing. some songs had 3 members performing, some had 4. once J joined them, they did some partworks with all 5 members, before they ended the partwork series.
partwork is basically "part of voiceplay doing all the work" 😄
One I frequently suggest is Geoff and Earl doing Death of a Bachelor, which I just love for Earl's voice.
@@christinestromberg4057 I always remember that you mentioned that in another reaction of this some time ago and I checked it out. It is so gorgeous and it is such a kick to see Geoff and Earl, the two ends of the vocal spectrum, doing all 5 parts. All the partworks are awesome
Some of the songs were not just 2 people.. Ride was Eli, Geoff and Layne. This one has 5.
But the concept was that the fans chose the songs and who sang them.
Ride is my favorite of the patchwork series. Eli does 3 parts in it at the same time while Geoff and Layne do their usual backups.
@@janetdw Yes and it highlights Earl's voice without the laser beam sound as Geoff called it, the ultra high tenor notes. His lower voice is just beautiful.
I like to tell people that this was the first thing I heard from VoicePlay, and how it just blew me away and captured my heart. For quite some time I needed my daily fix of Tennessee Whisky, untilI discovered other things they'd done. And then of course, Geoff.
Man, I love this cover. VoicePlay always puts their own stamp and twist on songs.

Each one's voice separately is incredible, when they come together it's indescribable! I love these guys!❤❤❤❤❤ Each video is a journey to the stars.
What I know of partwork is this: their patrons voted on songs for them to do - and chose which singers would do it. That lead to some songs having 2 people and 5 parts.... it was wonderful and insane. Check Death of a Bachelor Go listen... (This one was released 4/19/19, Layne arranged, Eli did the video).
Right after Sing Off would have Tony as the baritone, not J. None. J replaced Tony a couple years after that show.
Also: you can tell how old the video is by how long Geoff’s hair is. He had it short then. If it’s longer, then it’s at least a few years later. 😉
“Cheerleader” and “Grim Grinning Ghosts” are earlier - they have Tony and a short haired Geoff. Oh..and Tony takes the lead on “Phantom of the Opera”.

"Tennessee Whiskey" was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove in 1981 and originally recorded and released by a country music artist called David Allan Coe in the same year. That version is very different to Chris Stapleton's and VP's versions. Love VP's version - sooo smoooooth!
Partworks "Ride" has 1 Eli singing, 2 Eli's doing harmony. Layne beatboxing and Geoff bass guitar.
We get to hear Eli rap in this one. It's totally awesome and cool.
For "part work" you will also want to check out death of a bachelor, 21 pilots Ride, and love yourself. They don't all contain all of the guys, but 2 or 3 doing multiple parts
The pandemic took a toll on many of us, and neither Voiceplay nor Home Free have been spared. Jeff still has much of a baby face, but nowadays I can better believe he's the age of my hubby. Three years ago, I'd have fought to my bare teeth he only just finished high school. Oh, well, college. But not more. :D

Oh my gosh, SauceyDad! I listened to this and found myself going, 'Wait! this sounds like! Nah, but good grief!' So I opened another tab and played Home Free's Blue Ain't You're Color! And YES, they are so similar. In fact, I'm surprised somebody else hasn't said something. I know you've reacted to it also, and you didn't catch the similar tune and tempo? Listen to both right after each other. How did the latter song get composed and not get in trouble? This must be okay with both parties, I guess. Both are phenomenal!

You picked one of my favorites. This song is just perfection. The video says April 19, 2019 premier. You can tell how old something is by Geoff's hair. 6 years ago (Moana) he still had short hair. He started growing it out soon after.

Yeah, they didn't have the rasp of Chris Stapleton or Cakra Khan, but they definitely sounded great. Straight No Chaser also has a cover of "Tennessee Whiskey", but I don't know if it's humorous or serious.
