- Despite conjecture from some, this handle won't quit. It isn't even fit nearly as well as I'd like and has strong end-grain checking to it. Looks like it's gonna' hold up just fine. :)

I want one of those axes! Looks cool.
RE: video at 0:18 and 1:25
I would be interested in how the illustrated up/down movement of the handle, at these two timelines, in the eye comes and goes ..., as if the head is reseating itself on following strike ?
I understand the head & haft/helve is of friction fit design, but have not previously/knowing witnessed a friction-fit self re-seating :-/ Perhaps this is simply more common than I would have guessed ...?
Wonderful video, BTW !##!
A LOT of leverage was being applied to the handle and it wasn't driven as far into the eye as it potentially could have been. By virtue of being a slip fit handle, it simply reseated itself during the next blow.
@@FortyTwoBlades Appreciate the reply. Understand the intent of capitalization "A LOT of leverage ..." as it applied to that long handle. BTW, what is the length of that handle ?

I keep lucking into killer old axe heads but none of the handles at the store fit them. I've tried shaping the handles down but haven't gotten the hang of it yet as they break off prematurely... What's the trick for a snug fit that doesn't compromise strength.
Hard to say without seeing the handles! In the case of this axe it's a slip-fit handle like a tomahawk or pick axe. Dealing with them is a little different than wedge fit handles.
FortyTwoBlades you mean they slide on from the hand-hold end?
Yes. The end of the handle slides in from the top.
