- The Ion Mk 20 is a great looking flying wing from 1957, designed by O.F.W. Fisher and English designer and owner of Performance Kits. He was often known as Peter Fisher. The Ion has a 33" wingspan and was originally a free flight model powered by a Frog 80 diesel engine, however in this build it will be converted to 2 channel RC. The original design had elevons, used to give some reflex to the wing and they could be used to adjust the trim. In this build series these elevons will be servor controlled.
The plans for this build are available from Derick Scott at www.model-plans.co.uk/perform...

Great tip with the blue tape for cutting out parts. Will be doing that from now on. Thanks Mark. Looking forward to seeing this one come together.
Pleased you found it useful, appreciate the comment 😀
A new build series, yay! 😊
Hope you enjoy!
Lets get at it and I will watch every video mark. looking forward to watching the progress.
Thanks Norm, appreciated
Interesting choice of plane, looks really nice. Definitely will follow this build. 🙂
Excellent, really pleased you like and plan to follow along, thanks for the comment 😀
Interesting design! Looking forward to the build
Thank you, appreciate the comment 😀
Now that's different 😊
Its going to be interesting 😳
@@MarkRobinson555 its going to be very very stable or very very not 😂
@@MarkCroucherRC4fun I am hoping the three fins will make it stable! But, yes, certainly be holding my breath on the maiden!
Glue Stick works well; so does 3M77, I've found.
Good morning Mark. This one is going to be very interesting to watch. Back in the 60s my father and I visited the model flying nationals that was then held at RAF Hullavington. I remember a chap flying an ION, it was buzzing about all day and very stable. I think it was powered with a DC Merlin.
Every day was sunny back then. Thanks Mark.
Hi there Terry, now thats a good memory to have, yes sunny days, certainly holding out for some of them soon.
The reason I remember it is because that day my dad bought me the performance kit APEX.
@@terryblackman6217 the Apex, now there is another great flying Peter Fisher model.
Okay, so this is definitely not a Hershey bar.
This one has some character.
Hahaha, yes, and let's hope it flies better than a Hershey bar! Character, yes lots of it, Peter Fishers did some great designs. Thanks for the comment 😜

Hey! Hershey bar wings fly just fine. Your PT-60 has a Hershey bar wing, constant chord, no sweep, no taper, like a Hershey bar.
Later!
Looking forward to this build👍
Excellent, thank you for the comment 😀
Where do you find this stuff from, glad you do though always love your builds, something different and interesting to everyone else.
Thank you very much for the kind comment, really pleased you like the new build, I just love these old designs, as you say something a bit different 😜
This is a different Design, i like it please can you put a link to the plan and the templates i cant find it on the webside that you show.
Cheers Markus

Pleased you like it, thanks
Thank you i will have a look
Brilliant method on transferring printed patterns to balsa, far less messy than spraying contact cement! My old method was adequate but one had to use a powerful solvent (acetone) to clean the balsa parts, dreadful odor indeed!
I must ask , what brand of jigsaw do you use to cut out parts from denser material such as plywood? Just curious what you guys have available in the UK. Happy building!
Glad it helped, appreciate the comment. I only use hand tools for cutting wood, so use a hand fret saw for ply etc 😜
@@MarkRobinson555 I'm impressed! The last time I used a similar hand saw like that was in high school for metal shop. 😶🙂
Let's see... lengthen the nose a bit, add a canard, and put the engine on the back, and you have something very close to a Burt Rutan design.
He built model airplanes, too!
Hahahaha, not so sure, have you been using the dope again! 😳

Mark,In England are you required to get insurance to fly at your flying field?
You need to be a British Model Flying Association member, through which you automatically get insurance covers for £26 million, its a really good deal
Just not a fan of them flying wings mark .good luck on the build.
thanks for the comment, they are great fun to fly, really get the adrenaline going, although this one will hopefully be a little slower than the last!
