I think this game could use a little bit less repeating bosses. It's kind of understandable why they repeat, and there are some slight variations to the fights, but still... - Hry
You know, despite playing a huge number of metroidvanias for this channel, I never actually played any of the Metroid games. Somehow these series have always eluded me. So the Metroid Dread was the first for me and it did not disappoint. I would like to dive deeper into these series, but with all the other games I promised, I probably won't have time until the next game comes out.
If there are any Metroid veterans here, I'd like to hear what you think about Metroid Dread and how it compares to the other Metroid games. And maybe suggest which game I should try next...
Try Metroid: Zero Mission. This is a remake of original Metroid, and this game is awesome. This is a good point to start explore the Metroid franchise.
The 2D games and Prime series play very differently, but both have their strong suits. Fusion, Super, and Zero Mission are all really solid, and I've heard decent things about Samus Returns (though it doesn't have as many bosses, not counting repeats).
The Prime games I highly recommend, but they play a little slower and are built around Samus' more limited movement (in comparison to being able to jump to any height, you play more along the X and Z axis with the Y axis being more limited than the 2D games). Also, having played the Prime series, No Damage boss runs might not be possible in some circumstances, with Prime 2 featuring a life draining dark world that you will have to be in, and Prime 3 relying on Hypermode, which drains an E tank each time. Thankfully, compared to the 2D games and especially Dread, damage is scaled back a bit, so Samus can take a lot more punishment, but this also means bosses tend to be longer, have multiple phases, and need a mix of abilities to take down. Still, I adore the Prime series, and minus a few small gripes, I think they really hold up nearly 2 decades later.
Try metroid zero mission, fusion and super metroid. These are the best👍👍
And zero mission and super let you sequence break most of the game so you can even do challenge runs without upgrades.
in my opinion when it comes to the 2D games, dread has the best gameplay, fusion has the best plot, and super has the best atmosphere
I'd say that it is the best of all the 2d Metroids at this point, even compared to the perennial favorite Super Metroid. I would recommend you start with Super > Fusion > Zero Mission > Samus Returns (3DS).
Samus killing all these bosses without taking damage feels 100% canon.
Agreed
Not for raven beak
@@SentinelKingPokedex Even Raven Beak. He didn’t manage to hurt her at all until he Flash-shifted.
I think it is canon.
Of course she won’t take damage, only Ridley and plot convince can hurt Samus
The intro cutscene between kraid and samus is fantastic. shows you exactly the type of history the two have with just how pissed off kraid gets upon seeing samus and how samus is quite obviously like “Oh its you again”
Oh its you *again?*
This is literally like 4th time
@@maggot42069 ...4th?
1/Zero Mission and Super Metroid, and that's it.
I did not know Sami’s and this “kraid” person knew each other, I never played the games whatsoever
@@gabagaba761 yeah, the giant 3 eyed lizard guy. he was a boss in the first (its remake) and 3rd games in the series
I love how she just casually dodges Kraid’s last ditch effort to hurt, almost like she was saying. “A belly missile? Oh yeah, like you’ve never used that before.”
I think my favourite detail in this whole game is how Samus reacts to Kraid. No caution, no uncertainty, she's already faced it's kind and it's no threat to her at all. Every other boss she shows some caution when sizing them up, but when she encounters Kraid it seems like she's thinking "Oh it's just you"
Hu, good point.
As much as I'm not a fan of Metroid Dread, I will adment that this game has some neat details such as this.
@@augustbornone Why are you not a fan of Metroid Dread?
@@user-jk6iu6lf6b Well, to answer the fallowing...
The first of the reasons is because of a lack of a navigation systems, because this game takes place after Metroid Fusion, as well as the Metroid Prime Trilogy being made, I was really excited to think that Metroid Dread might have a hint-system to ease the Players that are new to series (myself including), but unfortunately...it didn't have it, yes there are Markers for you to place, but it was still a letdown that they didn't even include this feature, which leads to me having to look up on CZcams to figure out where to go.
The second reason is because of the E.M.M.I Stealth Segments which I absolutely hate with a Buring passion, and it's because of the EXTREMLY strict timing to counter them, and even worst, is that it's an INSTANT DEFEAT if you lose to them? Like seriously? I understand that they are like a boss, but that still brutal, why couldn't they have been like they damage you if you fail? I still remember failing the first one like.....seven times, and it was a miserable experience overall.
And the third reason, the main reason that I am not a fan of Metroid Dread......is its difficulty, like I'm not saying that I hate hard games, I do enjoy a good challenge once in a while, but there comes a time when the difficulty of Metroid Dread can REALLY get under my skin, and there are many (and I mean.....MANY) incidents that I had to restart the game to redo that boss again, the penultimate boss against the Golden Chozo Solder really got me piss off for its cheapness and how it defeated me, and the final boss was a HUMANGUT pain in the ass.
So thats the reason.
in all fairness, kraid was chained up and restrained. . .
it's kind of a lopsided matchup. almost like picking on a developmentally stunted person. . .
@@augustbornoneYou can parry the EMMIs
I love that when the bosses attack you out of pure anger, those attacks are the ones you can counter and do even more damage to them.
It makes the bosses look even more helpless against samus

Can I just point out how metal Raven Beak is for tearing off his other wing like it was nothing. Also, this must be the first Metroid game that didn't have Ridley in it. As far as we've seen at least.
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes didn't have a Ridley fight.

I just love the proper idiom the chozo have in the game, and what I love more is that we understand them saying "matroid" and "damos aran" referring to the respective things. No sarcasm, I love it. It reminds a lot of shadow of the colossus though
Samus is the living equivalent of the phrase “Built Different”
can we all agree that samus shooting kraid in the mouth on his cutscene like that was pure disrespect?

I just realized from your battle with Raven Beak that there are two different second-counter animations at the end, one for if Raven Beak is on the left side(yours), and one for when he is on the right(he gets knocked to the left by Samus). That's some awesome attention to detail.
51:31 Samus Aran becomes Doom Guy, rip and tear.
Samus pulled a link when she went

Holy crap. I clicked to see how you manage to avoid Beak's star thingy while also dodging burst blasts. Turns out you can just explode it using the bomb?! Guide said it can't be destroyed 😭
Guide never tried bombs, apparently.
@@chaosinc.382 That's likely. And it wasn't some random website either, it was by Polygon. Here's a quote:
"One of the first things Raven Beak will do is set up a flaming sphere. You can’t destroy it, and it emits chevrons of energy in a circle. It’ll disappear after three or so blasts."

Even after getting invaded by the X parasite and becoming a copy, Quiet Robe still stayed the same. I hope the next game explores more of her origins.
Raven Beak’s motto was always “Hadar sen olmen” - power is everything. But in the end, Quiet Robe was the one with the resolve to overpower the X, not him.
@Hadaron There's a poem in that, I think
Ever since this game came out, I was really just waiting for when Gellot will upload his no damage video. I knew he would have no problems up to Raven Beak second stage. But the third stage fight was too good. Just awesome.
In Gellot's hands Samus feels cold and professional, like a true bounty hunter.
"See you next mission!"
Huh? I thought Metroid Dread was the finale of the Metroid series?
the finale for the saga they had in mind for samus whole shenaningans with the metroids and the chozo, the devs said they have more plans for diferent stuff.
i guess samus is her own universes doomslayer now, going places to slaughter whathever is threatening the universe...
They were probably eluding to Prime 4, whenever that releases
riddles, the cumming gog of deaf
No, just the main storyline, which excluding Other M, are classic Metroidvania style games. Potential sequels will have little if anything to do with the main story, much like the Prime Trilogy.
Aside Metroid Prime 4, there are future, unannounced projects on deck.
@@unkindled6410 I don't think Sakamoto-san said it's the end of the saga with the Chozo, just the Metroids.
Between some of the bosses and the bit of body horror with X infested bosses, feel like some inspiration was taken from Dead Space and Resident Evil.
I think it just comes from The Thing as the inspiration.
H R Geiger also had very creepy looking art work.
Some badass moments in this game reminds me of Doom.
That comes from Fusion, which predates dead space
51:34 Take a look at the damage Samus did to Raven Beak. Do you really think with a crack that big on his beak, he should have been dead?
The only woman in the multiverse that is worthy of being the slayers wife.
Do you think their collab is possible?

It's easier than it looks. Except for that one EMMI that can hear you wherever you are and can see through walls. That one can go shove Ridley up its rectum.

This is probably how it looks like in canon.
Been waiting for you to post this!
Whem I thought the power suit couldn't become any cooler... *Literal Metroid Power Suit* , DAMN!
And now Samus have the power to absorb anything, not only X-Parasites
Unfortunately, because her DNA was restabilized at the end we dont know if her energy drain powers remain active.
@@thomasallen9974 I mean, you kinda have a point, but that Chozo was a X-parasite, it wouldn't make much sense that a X-parasite with Chozo DNA would be able to simply "erase" her Metroid DNA
I think it "fixed" her DNA to the point of being able to use her ship and stuff without absorving their energy
I'd say that it simply "turned off" the predator sense of the M-DNA (which's why she came back to normal), either that or the more absurd one, which is Samus being able to use the power whenever she wants
@@felps_4500 Building off of what you said, I'm pretty Samus just has the ability to control her mutations now, instead of it spiraling out of control like it was.
@@thomasallen9974 She managed to activate the ability at will prior to the fight with Raven Beak. She can probably do the same thing after absorbing the Robe-X.

Having played all the meteoid games id have to say this one is really faithful to the original 2 on NES and SNES but you were correct to point out that there are too many repeat boss fights. That is my one criticism for this game but other than that its a beautiful reworking of the classic formula.
I suggest you play the original 2 and metroid prime 1. Although prime isnt a "metroidvania" kind of game, it is breathtakingly beautiful when you put into context the fact that it came out as one of the first gamecube games (the first game i got with my gamecube actually lol).
I give this game a 8.5 out of 10. Would of gotten a 9 if it wasnt for the over use of the same bosses but thats my only critique (oh and so many loading screens haha). Cant say i can beat the bosses with no damage taken though, you are q madman
It seems a common trope nowadays that games like this have bosses that come back slightly stronger twenty times
Thx for the vid now i just know theres new samus game that i can play
Ah, gellot. Proof that there's no point in playing video games when you can watch someone beating them for free on CZcams.

Did you noticed this?: the main villain's name is Raven Beak. Ravens are birds that imitate voices and sounds very well. In the game, he apparently imitates the voice of the AI samus interacts with. Also, Quiet Robe X apparently can do it as well, when samus heard someone say her touch would drain the ship. Can chozo imitate voices like some real birds? Or did the AI translate their language in real time? What do you think?
Seamus’s suit/armor is considered to be the strongest in all of gaming. What do you guys think
My brothers played the SNES Metroid games and Prime (I helped get all the hard to find missiles and tanks). They suggest playing the classic Metroid games. I, the scaredy-cat, suggest Metroid Prime and Fusion. I didn’t play Fusion at all: it’s too nerve-wracking, but it’s similar to this game. Have fun!
38:20 tbh from other Videos I thought that was a cutscene but I like how you can repel the E.M.M.I which would start an alternative cutscene that still involves you sucking the energy out of the E.M.M.I.
Samus sure seems feisty in this game.
10:41 What an unexpected Plottwist
Why did it take me so long to realize that Raven Beak’s X form is literally just Kraid with a split-open head!?
Now, I am thoroughly disturbed… 🤢😨

Samus is literally a monster in this game!
I couldn't agree more. And she must be destroyed because of that.
This game (and her other games) made me realize just how dangerous she can be.
So the X virus we thought was destroyed on the station actually survived and followed us..... great.
At least Samus got that mandatory overpowered species awakening thing.
I've enjoyed and played just about every Metroid out there and even completed some No Item challenge runs on Metroid Fusion. That said, I truly hated the Raven Beak fight. The sheer amount of damage he deals is nuts and, as someone in my mid 30s, I sometimes struggled to react quick enough.
I’ve only played the very early Metroid games, so can someone please explain why the Chozo, who gave Samus her suit and powers, are now trying to kill her?
From what I gather, Raven Beak leads a different Chozo tribe. And the Chozo warriors fought by Samus here are all either robots or X-parasites.
Ughh why didn't I buy a switch!! 😫
Amazing playthrough
What is your favorite game to do no damage runs
Having never bought any of the handheld systems this is the first 2D Metroid I’ve played since Super Metroid more than 25 years ago.
It gets a little repetitive as the EMMIs are more or less the same, and majority of the boss fights towards the end are some variation on those Mawkin Warriors.
I enjoyed it, and finished it 100%, but I’m not sure how much I’ll replay it.
EMMI do have an upgrade that they utilize.
@@jaretco6423 true, two of them do, but they’re still broadly the same. Relentless pursuit until you’re able to destroy the Central Unit and get the Omega Cannon, then they slowly crawl up to you and let you casually melt their faces off.
I think there's more than 2 that utilized those upgrades. U got anyellow that goes fast, green that crawls, light blue shooting ice, purple shoots out electric ball when spotted & couple more.
Would mind sharing how you set up to record on the switch. Or at the very least can you recommend software or point me in the right direction? I would be much a appreciated.

Is this a real game?🤔 I mean, I know Metroid itself is a game, but is the cinematic being displayed an actual game? If so, I definitely want to play it. I wasn't really into the old Metroid games, seemed too hard for me. But a 3D, action-based Metroid game where you can actually move "around" the enemies? I definitely want it, what system(s)?
Switch only and MercuryStream has evolved a bit from their 3DS outings
Is it just me, or does Z-57 getting hit sound a lot like Crocomire from Super Metroid?
Wait how did they get around if u need omega blaster and omega stream to get past some of the doors who tf built this place?
