I love that Jim designed it to be YOUR guitar that you can do whatever to/with rather than be his guitar that everyone recognizes. Since I got mine 4 years ago, it's got decals on it and some dings and finish wear, but it feels like my guitar rather than Jim's. Artist signature models should follow Jim Root's footsteps in making a unique workhorse that can belong to anyone.

True. A few years ago I had the first KoRn signature guitar. Its the heaviest sounding Ibanez they’ve ever made, any Ibanez collector will tell you. They are made out of mahogany like Root models. It had one problem, on the 12th fret there’s a big ass K7 logo. As much as I love the guitars sound, that big logo always made it feel like I was playing a KoRn guitar. So I finally just sold it. Iv had all 3 Root models. And narrowed it down to my favorite which is the Flat black Root Stratocaster. I put a flat black pickguard on it. So it’s even more flat black! Awesome sounding guitar. All the models are. The only Fenders made out of mahogany

Hard to believe what you get with the price point they’re at, and I believe prices have gone up on these in recent years. I recall seeing when these first came out around ‘14-‘15 I think going for around $1500. I got caught up with a Mayones Regius and didn’t buy this one, but now I feel I gotta get one. Ive always loved satin, matte and faded finishes, I had an ES335 Satin that was one of the, possibly THE best sounding modern 335 that doesn't come from the Custom Shop. Many would look at them as a less expensive alternative, but i specifically wanted it and could have gotten the gloss.
I love the really thin finish, especially on vintage style guitars with low output pickups since the tonal qualities of the guitar itself (body, neck, etc). With higher output/modern guitars and pickups this is less prevalent.
I remember there was a period when PRS had offered a matte finish on their Custom 22/24's, and thinking that it would subdue the highly flamed tops. I saw one at a shop and from that moment I decided if I ever went with a core line CU22 (I don't do 24 frets) I'd get it matte. Contrary to my assumption on how it would make the flamed tops look, I find it makes it even more dramatic. It creates an almost 3-dimensional quality, and when you touch the top the first time you expect to be able to feel the flame.

I would buy either one. I would not worry about the Mexican made ones, in fact I think the value is better. Mexico as a country has the highest percentage of people who play guitar, its a fact, and it translates directly to the Fender factory. I own an Ultra and I love the neck but I am not sold that compound radius is any better than just plain old 12" and if you want a Fender with a 12" radius you are going to be buying a Mexican made and they are excellent, not good, excellent.
