- The Kia Carens has entered the Indian Market with a bang with introductory prices which are not only impressive but shockingly good. The range starts from as low as Rs 8.99 lakh and goes up to 16.99 lakh for the top automatic variants. In fact it undercuts the Hyundai Alcazar - the car it is based on, by a massive margin! The price is not the only differentiating factor between the two cars, in fact we found 10 things that the Carens does differently as compared to the Alcazar!

Both Kia carens and Hyundai alcazar are good in their own position and they r sister companies too...
But i would prefer alcazar though it is 3 lakhs more then Kia carens because firstly carens dosent have a 360 degree camera, secondly becoz it dosent have a blind view spot and if u compare the seats of carens and alcazar u can feel quality in both becoz i have taken the test drive of both the cars, and last and important thing that is safety if u touch carens outer part and try to press little it goes down and can be pressed but in alcazar it dosent do the same thing so I prefer alcazar..after all it's ur choice
Well said.. I felt the same during test drive. Kia’s body steel thickness is not heavy enough. Just adding Airbags won’t help much in such cases.

Great presentation of both the cars. Congratulations ZigWheels. Still while during the presentation, I feel a slight tilt towards Carens positives than of Alcazar (Spanish Palace). The pricing of Kia Carens is absolutely aggressive and that of the Alcazar is pricey at the top ends respectively. For that premium, I feel we are compensated by the panoramic sunroof, Blind spot resolution, Driver seat automated adjustment, 360deg. Cameras, three modes of powering, and the like. Of course, it is one's choice .

Indian auto journalist and youtubers should definitely make the standard safety feature as their review selling point! They have to make it a big deal.. i dont care abt features in car.. afterall i prefer a luxurious home than a car which is jus a people mover🙂..
If kia is selling carens from 9l onwrds with that feature set, how can they sell sonet that high priced?
You are doing a comparison of two 7 seater. So your review should mostly highlight more details about 3rd row...

Hello Friend I AGREE features loaded in car. But apart from key and all. If Hyundai work on headlight it will be very good. Verna and i20 have better light than this Alkazar. The throw of light is really poor. HYUNDAI MUST THINK OVER THE SAME. PLEASE PROVIDE LIGHTS LIKE XUV700 OR BREEZA OR I20 OR VERNA OR ERTIGA OR XL6. I HAVE GIVEN OPTIONS. REST HIDDEN FEATURES ARE GOOD. BUT HIDDEN FEATURES WILL BE HELPFUL IF HEADLIGHTS GET IMPROVED.
If the engine was 2L, 360 DEGREE CAMERA, AWD- then it would have been best car by now

Carens and Alcazar are not sharing the same platform as u mentioned in the Verdict. Carens is based on SOnet platform and hence its priced aggresively. Comparing the top spec Carens and Base Alcazar, its the Base alcazar that wins.

Alcazar can be compared with better features of Creta with the extention of 200 mm pricing 3 lacs more. Can carens be compared with seltos?
Take the test drive of both and get the SUV feeling from Alcazar.Also check the turning radius of both vehicles where Alcazar is better.Carens can be compared with ertiga & xl6. Alcazar can be compared with Safari/XUv700/MG Hector plus.
Just sit inside both the vehicles and compare the quality of interiors.
Do a hand press test of outer body of both vehicles to chack the strength of the outer build quality. Alcazar wins in this
Alcazar contains 18 inch diamond cut alloy wheels where as carens contains 16 inch.
All versions of Alcazar contains panaric sunroof where as top variant of carens contain half sunroof just for the name sake.

Carens got longest glossy area then any other car. Sunroof is a joke now a days, Useless thing in any car IMO.

* please give horn button on left & right corner like new tata cars (punch) including center. Many of them steering holding position is changed coz of centre only horn pad, give left, right, centre horn click option)

Carens is not based on tthe alcazar/creta/seltos platform(K2), but based on the i10 platform(K1)... Carens is more targeted to ertiga and xl6 and not the alcazar..

What you told about standard features doesnt make sense…..features are more or less same…..alacazar starts at 20lakh and carens at 10.5 lakh
Carens base model is cheaper so ofc it gets less features than alcazar base model

With present Pricing & 6 Airbags, ESP & TPMS from Base variant it would Punch Holes in all the 6-7 Seater Segment from Triber to Ertiga to Safari, all Sub 4 mts C SUVs, 4.3 mts mid SUVs, MPVs, Alcazar & XUV700.........
Indian have strong liking for big Cabin space for family and friends at affordable Pricing with loaded features from the base Variant.
It's most VFM package ever till date. KIA has an Ace in Carens to tick all boxes. I am pretty sure at present bookings rate it would cross 12 months delivery.
Competition keep Burnol handy as you might need it anytime.

Well sit inside the alcazar, it has its own feel, will give you the feeling of sitting inside a mercedes 💕
Once you sit in the Alcazar signature variant your view will completely change. Theres more headroom and the car is longer. We have the back 2 seats down permanently as we are a family of 3. The 360 camera setup clubbed with the sensors make driving and parking so effortless. Plus it's got traction control and drive modes. And the Panoramic sunroof is perpetually open to draw some light in . It's an experience ☺️
See I say alcazar is better it is over priced but it is better

Hyundai is loosing the spot slowly now, tata is doing good and now Kia with this pricing will give a tough competition to papa. Hyundai is getting expensive day by day, pick up any model, less on features and more on price.

The pricing is a scam by Kia Motors. No point in trying to do the comparison by including them in the mix. The base variant is not available. They will tell you that it is available after 1 year only. This is true at Bangalore and Chennai. I am sure the situation is same all over India. They need to be reported to the consumer courts for action. There is no car available for delivery with the introductory price of 8.99 lakhs. It is misleading the customer and generates a lot of free press, and primarily designed to attract walk-ins. They just force you to go for the higher priced models. Will the consumer courts prevent them from printing ads which are not true?? It is just a pricing tactic designed to cheat the customer. Does the base model even exist. It is probably only on paper.....

ANOTHER KOREAN TIN CAN ! IT SHARES THE SAME PLATFORM AS THAT OF SELTOS WHICH SCORED A MERE 2 STAR IN GNCAP CRASH TEST. KIA ALSO USES LOW STRENGTH STEEL IN ITS INDIAN CARS. SO DONT FALL FOR 6 AIRBAGS. EVEN IF IT PROVIDES 12 AIRBAGS IF THE PLATFORM AND THE METAL STRUCTURE IS WEAK, THERE IS NO USE
Hello genius, same platform doesn't mean same quality of steel used, carens might be stronger than seltos, it might be weaker than sektos, we can't say anything right now.

Even though they got the price right I'd suggest spend a bit extra and buy Indian brands with pride and show support for them even if they have their disadvantages soo that they could evolve and get as competitive as other brands.
The XUV700 can be a great competitor here given its pricing

Hyundai has an extremely ugly from end. That unnecessarily large grill splashed with chrome is so weird.
It looks so beautiful in real life dude, especially in white colour. It gives an impression of a BMW
